Pandan is the SEA version of vanilla. It's a leaf hence the green color. In SEA lots of our dessert are made using pandan as flavoring and natural coloring. And it is also to perfume rice and dishes like nasi lemak from Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei and pandan wrapped chicken which is from Thailand couple of example.
yes, darcie, you're actually correct. the waiting time in america makes you really impatient, especially if you are used to skorea's "ppali ppali" culture, so that's very understandable. adjusting is really one of the hardest steps, but you are doing so great, darcie! ♡
Alaska looks awesome! It is interesting hearing you compare American food to Korean food. I have always been in California so it is interesting hearing other people perspectives who aren’t from America. Great vlog as always and thanks for sharing Darcie
As an Asian who worked in Anchorage for two years, here were some of my favorite places to visit: 1) Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria 2) New Sagaya Midtown Market 3) WONJO Korean Cuisine 4) So Thai 5) Potter Marsh Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk 6) 49th State Brewing - Anchorage 7) Alaska Botanical Garden 8) Glen Alps / Flattop Trailhead 9) Samurai Sushi
Hi! For the record, you ordered the Wendy’s Combo correctly! I have no idea why he asked if you wanted a meal. Combo = sandwich, fries and a drink. 🤔 Good job!
Hi Darcie! When I opened up my bank account during my first year as an international student, they had a specific SSN just for us. Most of my friends and I are able to use online banking (even when we have different banks), so maybe you can look into that! Also I really enjoy watching your journey
That's a good idea since most banks prefer you to use online banking. They should have a system for international students or have a bank specifically for them
There is also an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Foreigners international students used to get these to get the credit card sign up bonuses. 😉
I miss Alaska. I’m a huge nature guy so I took every chance to hike with my time there. I hope Darcie can explore Alaska’s beauty during her time there.
I know Alaska was not what you were hoping for, but I think it will be an incredible experience for you!!!! So glad your roomie is korean and you guys mesh well. I’m sure there’s familiarity and comfort with that. Looking forward to your vlogs! I subscribed because univ of Alaska seemed so interesting!!!!
In Alaska, boys love hamburgers and it also depends on the boys' preferences. The pizzas that were shown look delicious like the field where the students played to relax from studies. Good video, Darcie.💓✌
Mostly pandan is in south east asia. it is a type of grass. In malaysia, usually we use it in sweet delicacy by boiling or get its fragrant from the leaves whether for natural food colouring or for its aromatic fragrant. If you heard nasi lemak, we also use the leaves by adding them in the rice , which makes the rice smells good!
Having grown up in the US. I usually don't tip when ordering from one of those counter tablet thingys. It's more important for restaurants with servers/waiters, delivery drivers, barbers/hairstylists, hotel service, and bartenders. But unless it's some coffee shop you go to regularly tips are just extra but not a necessity. Imo at least😂
I love Wendy's. Good choice getting a sammich with bacon. One tip when getting fast food, order by number. "Number 2 combo" / "Number 2 meal" boom done. If you ask for a chicken sandwich they'll ask if you want homestyle or spicy or grilled or something and it gets confusing. Once upon a time I was an English teacher in the sticks of Korea. I lived off ramen for weeks. I took the train to the big city and found a McDonalds. Asked for a number 4. I knew almost no Korean. I wondered why it was $35. They gave me four number four meals. Almost ate all of it. In the US anyways, I don't think that would happen.

In Alaska, boys love hamburgers and it also depends on the boys' preferences. The pizzas that were shown look delicious like the field where the students played to relax from studies. Good video, Darcie.💓✌
Tommy's burger stop in Anchorage is good!

yes pandan is also super popular in the Philippines! We often have the dessert called buko pandan :)
Cool!
The combo issue wasn’t your fault…it was the workers lol he made that WAY too complicated
😂
1:17 the girl whom darcie talk to over the phone, I can instantly say she's a Filipino because of her accent

Darcie you should try McDonald’s fries, it a lot of people’s favorites
