  • In this video, I will teach you how to use the new Salome Shaper Parametric Modeler.
    You will learn:
    How to download and install it
    How to create sketches
    How to create points, polylines, plans, etc
    How to extrude, revolve, copy
    How to use boolean operations
    How to create variables
    How to export in Geom or in Step Format
    You can download Salome 9.3.0 with the Shaper Module here:

    Thanks for that tutorial. Previously I was using the GEOM module, getting a baseline drawing, then dumping that study to a python script and parametrising and extending from there. This will improve my workflow when collaborating with others.

      Yes, me too! :) this make the parametrization way easier

    Hi Cyprien, thanks for making these videos. I was stuck trying to make a hexagon cutout from a circle (to make something similar to a spanner end). I'm used to Rhino and making polylines, then faces, then extrusion straight from a face. Shaper is a little different in that I could only cut the hexagon extrusion (sketch2) from the circle extrusion (sketech1), but I got there with your help. 👍

    Great video, Cyprien! This new Parametric Modeler looks so much better compared to the old one!

    so I just followed the video, one huge nut, lol, would take up my whole print bet. I exported it and opened in a few other programs to see that it all worked good. thanks and hope you do more shaper tutorials

    Thank you, I am following the tutorial and using it on open cascade Cad Builder!

      @Feaforall  2 года назад

      Yes, it is the same actually. Open cascade repackaged the Shaper module with another name that’s all ;-)

    thank you for the tutorial,
    if we export these parametric files will openFoam understand that these are parameterized geometry, and can we vary these parameters for optimization,
    like for simple case like "an airfoil with only change in angle of attack" ?

    Hello there! Back in uni (2012) I used Salome to draw some geometries. One thing I noticed is that when I made a mistake I could not go back to revert it and I had to start from scratch all the time. This led me to quit using Salome. Now, is this issue still existing or was I probably doing something wrong?

    Hello. I always watch your tutorials and so appreciate it. I`m studying in Japan. I really need your help. I am simulating I-beam with Salome and I have a problem with Bending Moment. How can I get bending moment of I-beam simulation?

    Thank you Cyprien for this wonderful video. I would like to see how to use it for meshing in salome-meca. Possibly, one way is to export it to GEOM format. Can't we define the groups here in shaper itself?

    • @Feaforall
      @Feaforall  5 лет назад

      That’s a good question Sukumar! For the moment Shaper is not yet in Salome-Meca, so I had to export in step and reimport in Salome-Meca Geom to define the groups. I guess that there will be a better way to do that in the future to avoid to redefine the groups every time (maybe using YACS )

    Cyprien!! Please make a simulation of 2D and 3D fracture mechanics and fatigue. It is possible to calculate or demonstrate the temperature variation in crack travel in metallic and polymeric materials. Thanks!!

    Hi Cyprien! Thank you very much for all your efforts to help people learn using Salome. Could you please prepare a video to perform an analysis using the Job Manager module in Salome 9.3? They have taken out Aster Study and I have no clue how to do any type of analyses. It would be a huge help. Also I am sure it would drag a lot of attention to your channel as there are no videos available as of now on how to handle the Job Manager. Have a nice day :)

    • @TamasBalogh95
      @TamasBalogh95 5 лет назад

      Okay, with some time I learned that Salome is only a pre- and post-processor, blimey! :D Still though, it would nice if you could prepare a tutorial about the Job Manager.

    • @Feaforall
      @Feaforall  5 лет назад

      Yeah, Salome is the pre-post alone. You need Salome-Meca to have aster study. They haven’t updated Salome-Meca to python3 yet I think that’s why Shaper isn’t yet in Salome Meca. I believe it will come though... patience! I will think about using the job manager, never used it much myself yet.

    Thanks for this tutorial!
    I don't understand why opensource software is so reluctant to put enfasis into the "A" in CAD (as in aided).
    The aiding in sketching is so basic compared to professional software that keeps new users away. In this case you made several steps to make an hexagon. Why not provide a polygon tool? We're in 2020, don't we?
    This goes also for freecad. :'(

      They certainly knew that. But they don't have a bunch of engineers paid to do that.

    Hello Cyprien,
    thank you for your nice tutorials. I think it would be very useful to have your SHAPER models in the test base of SHAPER. Would you agree ?

    how to upgrade to salome 9.3 shaper? ive the old version and dont want to download the new one. Can I just upgrade?

    • @Feaforall
      @Feaforall  5 лет назад +1

      You can’t upgrade, you have either to install both or uninstall what you have and install this one. You can also wait for the shaper module to come in Salome-Meca but you may wait a very long time... ;-)
