    I bought my son in law (a deputy sheriff) a Fox Knives ALSR two years ago, and he still carries it every day. Says he really likes it.

    I do not have a need for a rescue knife in my job. I ALWAYS have a need for more education and learning in case things change. I really appreciate your videos where I can learn something. I also like watching you melt down a crap subscription box, but that’s educational too since you talk about why it’s crap.

    Lots of really good info, Doc! Thanks!
    I carried a manual Triage for about 5 years...not a first responder, just got "BoyScoutitis"🤣 I bought an auto version when they came out & been carrying that for about 2 years because I love autos. I've found the hook cutters on both to be super handy for a host of cutting jobs.
    As much as I love the auto, the point you make about the metal scales is excellent and has me thinking. Thanks again!

    Hey Doc, do you think you could do a video on the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of fire starting, like lighters, spark wheels, and ferro rods?

    I also think the brighter the color the better also because if you drop it you can find it alot better and faster. The black schrade is great but could use a brighter handle not black in my opinion.

    Great info as always, I keep some rescue tools in my vehicle at all times. Pray that I never have to use them but thankful that I have them just in case. There not expensive in any way but I know they will work when needed. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable

    Nice review. I went with the Victorinox rescue tool and the Leatherman Raptor on my EDC IFAK.
    Since 2018, by federal law, all new cars must have laminated safety glass on the side windows as well. So for me the only rescue knife that can get through that is the Victorinox rescue tool. It may not be the ideal knife for you as the person doing the rescuing but I got it in case I'm the person being rescued trying to get out of car. Also I heard that you are supposed to hit the window in one of the corners where it doesn't have much flexing. I have seen people trying to break through side car door windows hitting the middle of the glass and it just keeps bouncing back. Stay safe, from Canada. I think the little knob on the seat belt cutter is for one handed opening if you press it against your leg or something.

    I'm not a huge fan of serrated blades normally, but things like seatbelts and restraining straps are exactly why they can be useful. That Schrade is what I think of when it comes to a true rescue knife. Who. Would have thought Schrade would have given their rescue knife that kind of thought?

  • @KaylynnStrain
    @KaylynnStrain 3 года назад

    I bought the Lansky Responder (which was paired with the BladeMedic sharpener). it does not have a separate belt/cord cutter and the glass breaker pommel is a bit to be desired.it has a closed back so it would be hard to clean. the tip of the blade is also very pointed

    I carry a CRKT M16 LEK in my truck in the event I come across anything on the road that would necessitate the need for a rescue knife. Got it used and cheap on eBay a number of years ago. Seems solid. Hopefully I’ll never have to find out.

    Awesome video Doc! I've been looking into the Victorinox trying to convince myself to get it, but since I'm not in the rescue business I'm not sure still cuz it is a little expensive. Totally loved the video Dorc. Keep Rocking

    In-between the Shrade and the Benchmade Triage, the Spyderdo Assist. Great price point for the quality and features. The Hogue Trauma First Response Tool is a high-quality copy of the Benchmade Triage, but still on the pricey side. Seatbelt cutters integrated in handles seem unreliable and perform poorly compared to hooks that open up all the way like in the Benchmade or the Hogue. The Benchmade Triage with a serrated blade and a blunt tip in black actually makes a fantastic EDC knife for everyday tasks (I use a dedicated $5 Klever Cutter tool to open boxes and packages daily instead of blunting and gunking up my EDC blades).

    In my opinion I think you should have throw in a Spyderco in here because they do make very good knives for Rescue I've never been a rescuer but from what I can gather they have very good products for that and they are very easy to open

    Appreciate the overview. Im surprised the Schrade seems to be the best. I never really thought about the blunt tip thing, but it makes a lit of sense. I'm not lookking for a furst responders knife. Im looking for one that will gelp me and my daughtet get out of the vehicke, in the case of an accudent. I found the Schrade on an outlet site. I have to verify whether the wevsite is legit.

    You normally do great reviews however I found this video lacking on the rescue tool (neon handle). That is such a great knife the other really don’t compare. Look up the video for that knife from the company’s website and you’ll see why it’s one of the best, if not the best.

      It was in the good choice group, wasn't it? This wasn't a review of individual knives. It was an informative video of general features to look for in a rescue knife. If you want a complete review on the Victorinox Rescue Tool, watch my actual review video of that specific item.

    • @DocP91B
      @DocP91B  3 года назад +1

      There are some but for the most part rescue knives are folders becasue they are meant to fit into the duty set up of professional rescuers. Not a whole lot of EMTs or firefighters want a fixed blade knife hanging form their duty belt.
