ma long in the slightest way possible is not weak in backhand. his backhand is super solid. just because he don't kill or use his backhand for finishing doesn't means he is weak in backhand. he just has his own gameplay. and he don't need to use his backhand much.

@@seeker3983 If you're looking for world's best shots, ML's FH is a contender but his BH isn't, IMO. I share the enthusiasm of all the ML idolisers out there and rejoice to see him still playing at a very high level, but maybe, as he loses some of his speed, he will come to rely on his BH more. Let's see what happens when he faces greater challenges than the one he faced here.
For some reason people think someone who is playing in chinese national team has weak backhand, how this makes any sense? If you have weak BH you will not even appear in main line up, and still people keep posting this.
Almost perfect from Captain Long today; reminded me of his Tokyo gold medal performance. His forehand has not been stable in his last few games, but it certainly looked amazing today. His down-the-line backhand also troubled FZD a lot. The GOAT showed why he's the GOAT.
Totally agreed, ML did not have a BH long rally with FZD, switched too opposite corner or in the middle of FZD body helped ML won a lot of points today ... His FH play also very expressed :)

@@harryharrison362 nah ZJK gained a back injury in 2014 and it got worse in 2016 he kept playing because of his chance for double grandslam even though ma long was the favorite. Fan is in good shape with no current injuries.

First set - look how ML is moving like a precision knife. Can tell he wants it in 1st set. I really want to see if Ma can do this to Wang Chiquin or if Wang is Ma's kryptonite.
I think FZD and LJK are in the cycle of gaining mass rather focusing in the technique or tactical aspects of the game. Of course, Ma Long showed the balance between of parts of the game and deserved the title.

The Captain has a 22-8 win record over FZD. That's one of the reasons Captain ML still has the mental edge over FZD.

There used to be a time when Ma Long would be vulnerable in bh-bh rallies. Now this has become the strongest part of his game! With reduced athleticism he doesn't run around the bh so much ... and no longer needs to. Impressive.

Ma long seems to be in good form, especially that backhand down the line. Fan zhendong appeared a bit "sleepy" and not particularly tight on his serves.

Hier in den Kommentaren dreht sich alles um Ma Long. Hier haben die zwei Weltbesten Spieler gegeneinander gespielt und die Tagesform hat das Spiel entschieden. In Singapore hat FZD gegen Ma Long gewonnen und hier bei der nationalen Meisterschaft Ma Long. Man hat gesehen das FZD nicht in seiner Best- und Tagesform gespielt hat. Er war nicht spritzig genug, und taktisch hat er nicht gerade Ma Long ausgespielt. Es waren viele Aspekte die zusammen gekommen sind bei FZD das er das Spiel verloren hat. Ich bin der Meinung das die Spieler verheizt werden und wenig Ruhephasen haben. Ma Long hat die Tagesform an den Tag gebracht und verdient gewonnen. Punkt

Señores hemos visto el mas alto desempeño de Ma long y el peor y precupante capacidad fisica y tecnica de Fan que definitivamente no es el mismo!
Puede ser que Ma Long haya recuperado nivel...no hay duda con el rigor que ellos utilizan, pero aquí Fan Zhendong se vio muy flojo. A veces hay muchas dudas y misterios cuando se trata de China. Fan Zhendong tiene más de 7 mil puntos en el ranking y no peligra en nada si pierde varios torneos ... quizá es una estrategia mantener a Ma Long arriba cerca también. Ya se ha revelado que China usa dobles para entrenar a su equipo y así estar preparado para los jugadores top de Europa. También usan dos jugadores para sparrings al mismo tiempo preparar un jugador...como lo hicieron mucho con Wang Hao para que así tenga un gran derecho y revés. Tampoco es muy convincente eso de las gomas DHS pegajosas y los argumentos dados... Si fuera tan verdad todo al 100% marcas como Butterfly, Donic, Yasaka,etc. Que llevan décadas en el negocio habrían experimentado esa fórmula. Ahora usan gomas un poco pegajosa, pero no se utiliza esa misma esponja china. Aparte de jugadores del equipo chino no ninguno más de otros lugares del mundo utiliza ese tipo de gomas... Ni coreanos,ni japoneses o europeos. Ni China año ls atrás... Liu Guoliang nunca uso esas gomas. Se dice de las gomas nacionales, provinciales y comerciales. Se habla de estudios que comprueban que las gomas tienen más efecto, más rendimiento,etc. Pero nunca se ha visto el método utilizado (método científico paso a paso) es como leer de un estudio, pero sin saber el muestreo, sujetos de estudios, marco teórico,etc. A simple vista pareciera más marketing que nada. La cantidad de jugadores debido a la gran población de ese país y la cantidad de centro de formación para este deporte, junto con la filosofía utilizada y estilo de juego basado en la capacidad física (por eso tanto recambio de jugadores seguidos y para mantener medalleros) hace que puedan hacer esto.
Creo que China puede darse el lujo de decir y hacer más cosas que los demás porque aún están en escalón más arriba, pero por las razones mencionadas. Demás está decir que hay talento,rigor, disciplina, estrategia,etc. Pero aún así.

For any sports, I have only seen two greatest players are like Bruce Lee’s quote “being water”: one is MJ, the other one is Ma Long. Both of them are able to adjust their tactics in the battle field to overcome challenges in the matter of seconds. That is called the sports genius, my friend. Of course, Bruce Lee was the one did that first. Unfortunately, I am not old enough to see Bruce Lee in the battle field lived. I have not seen any other athletes could do that including Roger Federer. Thus, I will not be surprised if Ma Long would win another gold in the Olympic game next year.

Well! both of them are great and let's just enjoy watching them in the next few more years especially playing against each other before one or both of them will be out of competition on the world tournaments because of the aging caught up and also young players moving up to replace them. Just enjoy watching ML playing when he is still able to play tournaments until his last one. It will make many people sad including me for sure, and ML will forever be in people's hearts! Smile.

Please someone explain me why Ma Long here has played incredibly well against Fan ZhenDong, while in the last two wtt final has always lost against him, and didn't play so strong??
That’s normal. Back to the dominant days of Ma Long he usually lost to Fan Zhendong in Chinese Trials or Super League but thrashed Fan in World Tour Platinum events or Grand Slam Events. Usually strongest players might not show all of their skills and tactics in the trial events since they are sure that they will secure a slot for olympics or WTTC. Ma Long is not the first prior for the WTTC squad so he must fight with more than 100% to win the event and get his place in China’s Squad.
