Stuff like this happens all the time (stuff not going right) and sometimes directors like what it adds even more than what they had originally planned. That's almost certainly why they stayed in character, But it failing so many times after they knew there was no way it would be used.
Right move to keep it going for a few tries. If it had worked on one of those tries the editors could just have cut back and forth between them to make it look continuous.
Everyone talking about them staying in character meanwhile no one talking about an entire filming crew there that kept quiet and never yelled cut! 😂😂 Just let them sweat it out till one broke. Lol it almost feels like a prank.

Blooper aside i dont think ive ever seen such a convincingly scary enraged face as Dean norris right here. Absolute pro of an actor who was definitely up there with bryan cranston in this show
@R3fug333 that was also good but that was just straight up seeing red anger. This was anger at his close friend being the very person he was looking for. Very personal
Both probably had to get so into the mindset for such an intense scene that it’s hard to even break at such a funny development, because Hank’s ACTUALLY furious
Nothing is more hilarious than an absolute tense moment with serious characters than a comedically timed item as simple as a door not working. Almost phenomenal as the actual scene.
Honestly, I feel like if it worked after the first fail, it would’ve made the scenes tone different, in which Walt knew what was about to happen, and was waiting for it
The lighting of Hank’s eyes, and just the emotion in his face, was a super stellar touch on all their parts for this scene. He genuinely looks so hurt yet ready to kill
That last time, it really started to seem like it was finally going down, only for it to fail again. That's what finally broke them. It broke me too, that was hilarious.

it makes me so happy to see them laugh in a scene like this because their acting is so amazing it felt like hank genuinely hated walt and it felt so real
The fire in hanks eyes felt real when watching this scene. Now watching this blooper it’s amazing how he held that fire. It was small moments like these that made this show the best show ever on television.
One of my favourite parts about Breaking Bad is how different Hank looks at this point of the series. His entire demeanour and his sense of tension can be told through how his face looks. It’s so extremely well done by dean norris
I like how both men so obviously wanted to start cracking up, but it’s cool to see both of them try and see who will break first, and just go deeper into character in the moment. It looked especially like Hank was using the energy of holding back the laugh to use for the scene, almost looked like he was about to cry from rage 😂
LMFAO! Imagine being so deep into one of the most serious moments for both characters. They’ve built towards this moment for YEARS! Only for this to happen
I love how they’re both so deep into character that they want to keep the scene going Walt going so far as to tell him to try again even in character just goes to show how good they are at what they do
The actual scene for this was incredible. The emotion in Hanks eyes when he confronts Walt. All the sadness, anger, disbelief and hope that hes somehow wrong about this guy he loved as a brother.
Everyone is talking about the actors, but the entire film crew - camera, sound, stage, props - everyone kept the scene going. It is golden. You can see the professionalism in everyone involved. Until someone doesn't yell "CUT!", it is still showtime.

"Try it again" fits so well in how much tension it adds until the door fails 2 more times.
Deadass.
Actually kind of a power move, ngl.
Yeah, It would've been great if they left that bit, but with it succeeding the next time. You get the feeling walts gonna beat the shit out of him.
