  • Big Bend National Park- What you Need to know. Well the Basics anyway. I'm trying to decide if I should go to Big Bend again and make one of my epic travel guides. Most of this is video shot by the NPS and in the public domain.

Absolutely think big bend is worth a visit. I used your guides for trips to Utah’s and glacier national parks. A guide like yours would have been so helpful when I visit big bend a few months ago

I like big bend ranch state park better than the NP. Less people, more camping spots, hiking is just as good.

I would very much like to see an in depth video. As someone else pointed out there's the state park as well. From friends that frequent the area the state is suppose to be more remote and have more challenging off road trails. Thanks for considering travel there.

Good to know. I'll do more research. The video needs close to a 1/2 million views just to pay travel expenses and park filming permits

Big Bend is one of, if not, my favorite places to visit. You should definitely re-visit and make the video.

I assume you made your decision long ago, but I vote "yes". There is a ton of useless crap on youtube, so the more helpful, informative, interesting vids the better!

I went back the Big Bend in March and half posted 2 videos on the park so far. ONe on their fossil discovery center- it was shot with a phone but still ok. and another on the hot springs that has lots of history info. The rest of the park will have to wait to the fall- there are some great trails there as well as rafting trips, and pretty volcanic scenery. Terelingua a gentrified ghost town will also be featured. Today, its a party area.

I visit friends each year who have an off-grid winter home near Terlingua. One or two days in the park is enough to I get my annual fix of this crown jewel of the National Park Service!
I did make the mistake of going one time in mid May….never again! This is a winter or early springtime destination, folks! Also, come prepared with the proper footwear for some great hiking! Always amazes me to see “hikers” on the trail wearing tennis shoes or even flip flops! Most of all, please respect the wildlife and fragility of the desert, mountain and river ecosystems!

Hate to ask this question, but is this an area that is effected by the number of "visitors" from south of the border? I have never been to this park and would love to go. thanks

Hmm I'd ask the Park Rangers. There are road check points and it is possible to walk across the Rio Grande in places- I understand the crossing is monitored these days. But ask a Ranger.

Worth mentioning that this one of those place were you can’t just show up without a plan. It’s remote and big so planning is a must. Also, prepare to show up early or risk not hiking the popularly trails as some have limited parking. Lost mine trail is one trail that should be done as early as possible to avoid not finding parking.
