I think you guys are spoiled sports, most middle teams would kill to always have above .500 seasons, and make a bowl every year. I laugh at how you think if you have under a .750 year that is a disaster. Almost as much as I'm in NY orker who dislikes the Yanks. Why? their attitude problem is just as bad as Wis. Yanks think like they are gods gift to mankind, and because they have the biggest budget they have to win by default. That's when i exclusively became a just Mets fan, because they are humble and try their hardest they don't expect to win as long as they give it their all and have fun! Oh and yes my cousin and her husband met in Madison, they are raising their two kids in Milwaukee now after they grad from U of Wi. I will also laugh when somebody takes down Ohio State. I'm glad that TN took down the goal posts and threw in TN River, when they eaked out a win against Alabama. Alabama is the Yanks in baseball. Ohio State also acts the same way. And yes my uncle's family in from Cleveland, and his youngest daughter lives in Cols, so go figure!

While the on field performances dipped, it's the internal stuff with Chryst that frustrated Wisconsin fans. His recruiting department left and he didn't restaff it for 9 months. He also didn't adapt to NIL because he didn't care or believe in it. He just never adapted. As for on the field, in his last 25 games, he went 15-10. He was a good coach, but he refused to adapt and just wanted to coach the football that he knew, which was far outdated. He's a great guy, but definitely fell off fast. The new changes to college football sped up this process for Wisconsin

Maybe I’m a little biased because I’m a Washington Husky fan but after seeing this segment about coaches I have a suggestion. The rise and fall of ex-coach Jimmy Lake. After what appears to be a phenomenal career getting credit as a Defensive coordinator (you could make a video on its own of all the drafted defensive backs that have come from UW) he suffered the strangest flame out. He was able to learn from a great head coach Chris Petersen and I still don’t know what the hell happened during his tenure….The only thing I can say is Thank God he’s gone and Kalen DeBoer is in there lol. That’s why I said “be careful what you wish for Wisconsin, hiring your defensive coordinator”.

I believe in the concept of stop competing and start differentiating. Hard work, getting better, and family atmosphere WILL NOT make your program a winner. These mantras, while good and true, are far from enough and are what fired coaches compete for. Stop out working, out improving, and out family atmosphereing the other teams. START OUTSCORING the other teams. All teams, Wisconsin included, need to stop competing and start innovating. Find a coach who gets this and you'll get to the top.

  • @JeffreyDahmenator

He should’ve been gone 4 years ago. Looking at his overall win/loss record and concluding he’s a good coach is very surface level analysis. He took over a team that had an elite defense and an average offense. He’s an offensive guy who was supposed to elevate that side of the ball. Over his time the offense got worse and worse while the defense carried them through wins. On top of that, he had the benefit of playing in one of the worst power 5 divisions. If WI was in the east, they would struggle to get to .500. In his entire tenure, he had zero wins against OSU and PSU. Also only beat Michigan on their down years.
Having Jonathan Taylor hid a lot of the team’s issues for 3 years, but as the roster became just his recruits, the talent became quite poor. His negligence to the recruiting department was a fireable offense on its own. There are so many hires WI could have made all those years ago that could’ve led to WI being a current CFB contender on a regular basis. Instead we got Chryst, who barely had a winning record against Minnesota and Illinois.

Wisconsin, North Western, and Iowa have “typically” won the West division as of lately. These offensive schemes don’t win against the East division. It took me until this year, to come to terms with the B1G West division, is probably the weakest division Power 5. Sure, they get a lot of wins beating each other up, but take the game anywhere else, it doesn’t fare out well.
Here in Iowa, we have ISSUES, and nepotism is front and center on this. There is NO where Brian Ferentz could take his failing tenure of offensive production as an OC anywhere but under his dad’s building of a family legacy.

I love that colleges have so much money that they can pay millions to buy out a contract. Hell, they've got more money coming in as long as Jack Ass Joe "cancels" student loans.

their mistake was letting Barry Alvarez tower over the program as much as they did after he retired. That kept the program in the stone age schematically and in recruiting and it finally caught up to them. The chancellor is also an issue... With the new CFB format and landscape coming, wisconsin will be back to being an average CFB program with zero percent chance of ever contending for a national title or B10 Title and that's ok with the chancelor. Mediocrity so ingrained so deep in wisconsin athletics, the athletic department and their alumni have an inferiority complex because they all remember how bad everything was in the 70's and 80's that even making a bowl is still a victory to them, most of them still think the Rose Bowl matters when its not a CFB playoff game and it really is just another bowl game. Until those people pass on or are irrelevant wisconsin will sludge in mediocrity in most sports.

Ask Ohio state if the rose bowl is just another bowl game. They’ve built all of the success of this season on the momentum they garnered from that game with Utah

@@Jleed989 there is a huge different in recruiting approach from ohio state and wisconsin, its not even in the same arena. Ohio State doesn't give a crap about the rose bowl if its not a CFB playoff game. they had a number of players not even play in the rose bowl to prepare for the NFL draft... I'm sick of people talking about the rose bowl like it matters. it really doesn't unless its part of the playoff,
