Yes it looks nice there but a 10$ dish can look like something you’d buy for 50$ in a fine dining restaurant. Just remember that anything you see in restaurants are usually 4-15x the cost of ingredients 4x for like main courses with protein/seafood 15x for things like soups or most desserts. You’re paying for the service, the cooking, the vibe, etc.

Whoa he always says taste is king? That is so insightful. What a unique perspective to have on food.
Sadly, you'd be shocked at how many cooks, especially young ones with an eye to 'becoming the next Escoffier' think that looks are important. They spew things like "the eyes feast first, before the tongue even touches the food".
Then they land their first jobs, get tossed into the line, discover it's not NEARLY as glamorous as shows like to make it and then promptly give up because they never realized what any of the chefs they idolized had to go through to get where they are. Gordon Ramsay has burned more dishes than a lot of armchair chefs have even seen in their lives to get to where he is. He can afford to focus on the looks, because he's had the taste down pat for decades.
