    I have hiked that glacier 3 times, once with a guide and twice self guided and it is absolutely beautiful.

      It's a stunning glacier - uniquely Icelandic with the volcanic ash scattered throughout the ice.

    Visited here on my last visit to Iceland 🇮🇸 An amazing natural structure ❤️ So sad to hear you much it’s receded in the last 10 years. I really hope that this stops as losing nature like this would be devastating. By the way you guys deserve far more views 👏👏

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  2 года назад

      It's truly incredible to see how far back it's retreated over the last decade. There is hope though, last year it didn't melt so much and we did have a decent winter so hopefully soon it can start advancing once more.
      I hope to get more views soon too! Fingers crossed!

    Amazing video! What month did you do the hike? I am thinking of doing it in August but worried the ice would be too slushy to hike on

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  2 года назад

      This was done in early January, ice was very hard during this time. August can still be a great time to hike on the glaciers here, the ice is kinda crunchy and won't be so blue. You can see an example of this in our How to Make Coffee in Iceland video.
      If you wanna come on a tour with us just check out what we have on offer at www.vividiceland.is

    This is really cool! In terms of difficulty level - how would you rate this for a person with avg. level of fitness? Also is end of Feb a good time to do this hike? Thanks!

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  8 месяцев назад

      If you are able to climb a few flights of stairs with no issues then the standard 2-3hr glacier hike will not prove difficult for you.
      In February you can expect a lot of snow on the glacier so that may be a little more tiring, as you would have to walk through it, but other than that, winter is my favourite time of the year to explore the glaciers. They are the most beautiful at this time!

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  Год назад +1

      Not far at all, in fact the walk to the view point is only about 10 minutes. From the view point you will have a clear view of the glacier and a drone should be able to reach it.

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  Год назад

      @@lmaodarius Really depends on the weather, if it's not windy or rainy or snowy then it should be fine. Roads tend to be empty at this time of the night.

    Is it dangerous to visit glaciers and ice cave in August? I assume they’re melting and unstable ?

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  2 года назад +1

      Yes the ice is still melting and cave/arch structures are very unstable and can collapse at any moment. The official caving season here starts usually on October 1, or when it gets cold enough for the ice to stay frozen for longer periods of time.

      @@VividIceland thank you for your expertise. What about walking on Solheimajokull glacier? I really wanted to sign up for this walk in Late August or early September (that’s when I will be visitingIceland). Is it also dangerous or not ideal to do this walk?

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  2 года назад

      @@liamlee8422 It can be dangerous on the glacier, which is why we offer guided tours.

    Can i fly a drone in sólheimajökull?

    • @VividIceland

      Yes it is allowed, just be aware of where you are flying as I've seen people lose their drones in the valley.

    can we do it with out a guide ?

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  Год назад

      It's possible to walk to the glacier without a guide, but all hikes on the glacier must be with a guide as the terrain is extremely dangerous. Especially now in the winter, with snow covering most of the lethal areas of the glacier.
      If you're interested in a guided tour, check out our website www.vividiceland.is for more info!

    Bro can we do this on our own?...or a paid tour is needed?

    • @VividIceland
      @VividIceland  2 года назад

      It's possible to walk to the glacier by yourself and takes about 15-20 minutes on foot from the car park. If you want to go onto the ice itself and walk around on top of the glacier you will need to book a tour with a guide. We offer tours and if you are interested you can get in contact via the email address in the description of the video!
