I really like how this is a youtube channel that doesn't seem to have any vanity or narcissism. Just a journey with breathtaking footage of Iceland and information about the hike so others can know about it and do it too.
Thanks so much for this - glad you like it. It was our goal just to showcase the island and its natural beauty, you don't need us taking up valuable screen real estate!
Another terrific video from you guys. This is one of those hikes I’m happy to skip out on and enjoy from behind a screen. Thanks for taking us along. :)
Thanks! We love this hike. So you should plan for about 6-7 hours. We departed at about 10:00am and arrived back in the car park at around 5:30pm. Hope this helps!
Thank you for such a great video! I watched all your videos and really like them. Will be traveling to Iceland for the 4th time and renting a 4*4. I believe you need to take the F222 to go up the road to start this hike. I would like to try to do this on our own and not with a tour. We probably don't want to hike all the way down but just several km. Any thoughts ? Also, how would you compare these views to Kristinartindar at Vatnajokull National Park ( I love that hike!). Thank you for your help!
Correct - the F222 road will take you up to the edge of the glacier but you will require a decent 4x4 to get there are the road condition is pretty bad. Now regarding the hike, not sure how much or how little of it you can do because there seems to be only 1 route down and out and it can be quite difficult to only do half the hike (for example) because there is no "exit" halfway down the trail. You basically have to follow it all the way down (from my knowledge of the area). Comparing this to Kristínartindar - kinda similar in that you have a good overview of the glaciers in the area. But I would say this hike has a bit more greenery (soft mossy areas) as well as great lava rock formations from Katla's eruptions in the past. Both worth doing I think! Hope this helps!
Unfortunately not, I couldn't find it on there. This hike is relatively new and was an old sheep herding trail for quite a number of years. It was only recently opened up to the public by Arcanum (the owners of the land)
@@VividIceland Thanks for the response -- I'm planning a trip to Iceland the first week of July and just starting to do research. As much as I like seeing beaches, waterfalls, and hot springs I want to do some harder longer hikes and hopefully summit some mountains, so any recommendations are welcome (I still have to watch all your videos). I'm planning on doing the Laugavegur trail one day and just saw Strorud in the East.
@@HikingEngineer There are countless great hikes to do here. One of the companies I work with (Icelandic Mountain Guides) offers a bunch of great hiking opportunities in the summer months.
