my friend dragged me to a Prince Concert in 78 or 79. I did not know his music and thought he was strange looking. I went to the concert, never sat down, and left thinking he was the sexiest man alive-lol. What a performer!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I had a similar experience on The Controversy Tour.
There will never be another musician like him.
I cant believe you have only seen one other Prince video?? Dude, you MUST see more! perhaps the most charismatic performer to grace a stage, including, yes, Elvis. Perhaps the most singularly talented rock/pop musician EVER. Played so many instruments, one of the greatest lead guitarists ever, his voice is otherworld levels, wrote amazing tunes, produced them superbly. lost too soon. Try the vids of "1999," "Cream," "My Name is Prince," "Sign O' The Times," "Let's Go Crazy."
Good God, why do we have to see your face and hear your voice at all during this iconic performance?
I saw this on snl in my dorm room...i remember it vividly!
This was one of his first live performances. He let everyone know he was here to wreck shop. 1st band and before the revolution Lisa was on keys and Wendy was not on board yet
Pure talent Vocals instruments and no one could dance like him
Band :
Lisa Coleman - keyboards
Dez Dickerson - guitar
Andre Cymone - bass
Dr. Fink - synths
Bobby Z - drums
On the records, he played every instrument. That was his backup band, The Revolution, for live performances. Dropped Revolution and formed The New Power Generation. This was one of his earliest songs. You can see how he perfected his on-stage performance as he continued through the 80s and beyond.
He did on occasion at least with this band use keyboardists Matt Fink and Lisa Coleman, and guitarist Dez Dickerson.
I fell in love with Prince when I was 8 years old! No joke! I still have my Prince t-shirt that I wore when I was 8! I went to my first concert in 1988, because my parents said no when I was 8 😂 I seen him many, many times after. My dad even watched Purple rain on pay per view and let me watch it immediately after and told me when to close my eyes! His death was an absolute tragedy to me! To know I would never see another concert again or see his beautiful face, just broke my heart 💔 I even named my RUclips channel after his ex girlfriend 😊 I will miss you our dear Prince, until I see you in heaven 💜🕊
The first time I saw Prince, was the first time he was on tv, I think. 1979 (?) On Midnight Special. I was a teenager. He sang I Want To Be Your Lover. He wore a leopard bikini. On his first two albums he played all the instruments, wrote all the songs. Years later I saw him twice in concert. He was an amazing guitarist, singer, entertainer.
Lucky you!!
4 not 2 ...
Fun Fact , This song was originally written by Morris Day of The Time. Prince wanted the song and offered Morris money or a record deal , Day took the record deal, and that's how The Time was born.
Yep offered him 15,000
Correct 💯💯

Cool reaction from one of my favorite prince performances. Not sure if u noticed, but Keyboardist Dr. Fink in the corner was moving like music group Devo, who sang "whip it", his movements was part of his early gimmick. On the actual record, morris day is on the drums
this was my first experience with Prince, and I loved it.
I remember seein😂g this on SNL when I was a kid and I was blown away by his performance. Loved it so much I’ve been hooked ever since
The best 8 concerts I’ve ever seen Prince was all 8. Epic doesn’t even come close to describing the performances. I lost a piece of my soul when he died. RIP Great One.
That's my dude PRINCE turning the shit out! This cat will remain unmatched in terms of being an incredibly gifted musician, vocalist, performer, songwriter, arranger, composer, visionary, and bandleader!
There will NEVER be another like him period!
The most complete artist of that era.
*all times.
The most complete artist of any era! Certainly, no contemporary artist today can hang with this cat!
Any Prince song. But for something Stellar, check out the tribute to George Harrison live. Prince did not sing but he played a helluva guitar solo.
I have been a Prince fan since his first album. My freinds didnt know but they came around. I saw him several . What an underrated musician
While he was producing albums in the late 70's, Prince ROARED into the charts with his Purple Rain album in 1984, and almost simultaneously released a semi-autobiographical movie of the same name (featuring music from the album). The man could play any and all instruments, and his vocals were undeniable. RIP Prince!!!
YES!!! Some proper rudeboy/Dirty Minds era Prince!
You should check the studio version, as you said. It’s on Dirty Mind, maybe his first most important album musically.
I love watching these reaction videos by people who are seemingly discovering the greatness of Prince. So cool. I remember the days when his amazing talent wasn't so appreciated.
Thanks for finding this vid. I watched it on RUclips. The day prince passed away and was really blown away by this early performance. There was a lot of energy and passion for just one song and really OK. Just how talent years. 🎸
Prince was amazing the entire package!
I saw Prince perform this live on his Controversy Tour in 1982. It was everything and more. Controversy is a great song, be sure to play the full length. The ending has a rhyme like this. I could name 10 Prince songs and there would be another 10 just as good. Enjoy!
5:48 Dr. Fink got that goofy lil run😂
Little red corvette the LIVE version and my guitar gently wheeeps
My first time seeing prince is the uptown and controversy videos .....That DIRTY MIND ALBUM IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 lots of funky BASSLINES AND KEYBOARDS GUITARS THE GOAT LEGENDS LIVES 4 EVER
I saw Prince on the dance floor in an occlusive dance club in West LA back in 1988. We...people on the dance floor, were dancing to Salt N Pepper..PUSH. I'll never forget being 6ft away from him. He was dancing with a women (maybe wife??) Never looked into it. But the DJ played a Prince song next and he walked off the dance floor!. Just thought I'd give you a story I have. I have more...was friends in the sound engineering business.
Cool! I've heard from celebrities like Dave Grohl and Questlove that he was a bit odd, but at bottom, supercool to be around, considering all the fuss over him. And never was fuss more justified, lol!
Please give us more stories of Prince...
They aired the show. I saw it. But there was not a rerun. I watched SNL every Saturday back then.
This is my first time seeing this video. I’ve seen him 😢several times in concert.
I live about 30min from his Paisley Park residence! So sad when driving by! Gotta go there one of these days! RIP!
Plz react to his Purple Rain video, from his Purple Rain movie! Yes, he made a movie! It’s a bit of a biography and its pretty good. The Purple Rain song is amazing.
He is the GOAT!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
You ain't seen nuthin' yet! Might I say, there's no reason to go to the studio version of any Prince song. Not that they aren't great, it's just that he's the ultimate performer, and in almost every case there are several live versions that beat the studio version anyway. Loved your reaction!
Brought to you from the makers of Coke. Yes when you need that extra 1980's energy and want to be in Party Mood, do a snort of Coke !!
LOL, jay leno had a good joke about David Bowie back in the late 80's, when Bowie was doing commercials for some coffee company. "So Bowie's doing commercials for coffee now," said Leno. "Let's face it, for David Bowie, coffee is merely a sedative at this point!"
That's Prince and his band the Revolution
Pre- Revolution
Always loved this performance/ he’s pumped and raw and full of energy. The little funky licks he puts out and then the way they just storm of stage - pure swagger ! I believe Mick J was a lesser talked about influence, I see it a lot here.
I watched this particular episode being a big fan of PRINCE I never missed a LIVE performance on Television or in my city I had his 1st album on eight tracks 2nd as well *(DIRTY MIND) was my personal ☔️PURPLE RAIN long before the storm of fair weather fans CONTROVERSY WORLD TOUR, 1999 WORLD TOUR twice PURPLE RAIN, LOVESEXY 88, NUDE TOUR, MUSICOLOGY, ESSENCE FESTIVAL HEADLINER APPEARANCE ESSENCE FESTIVAL 2ND APPEARANCE. I read the RIGHT MAGAZINE regarding his very 1st INTERVIEW Cynthia Honer was the only one interviewing PRINCE ROGERS NELSON at this particular time debut album second album etc. PRINCE would call her all the time clown with her and seeking opportunity to be interviewed she stated. I like how different PRINCE was compared to EVERYBODY else in the music industry 🎶 from the very beginning 8-TRACK BEGINNINGS I knew without any doubt PRINCE ROGERS NELSON was truly genius examplfed. He was a STAR 🌟
It aired I remembered seeing it as a kid !!!
My favorite Prince album. Was introduced to him via this album
Party Up, great track of one of my favorite albums Dirty Mind!
Might as well react to his 1989 SNL performance
big prince fan but never saw this (so many live performances of his tho)!! thks for the discovery, such energy! his dance moves and his little mouth sounds, I absolutely loved this! I would not know what to recommend, what Prince songs you should react to, there are too many, 'Large Room With No Light (2020 Remaster)', 'The Ballad of Dorothy Parker', 'Anna Stesia' today come from the top of my head today... and if you want a fun live performance 'Baby I'm A Star' at the grammys!
A PRINCE ROCKER is BAMBI -live. There are a few different examples on YT. The 1990's Nude Tour or the 1993's Undertaker versions are good. Or if you want to see PRINCE lay guitar and then a bass check out his cover of Play That Funky Music live. Enjoy.
The show is Saturday Night Live, so the show actually did air; all their shows air at least once. it just didn’t re-air because of Rocket’s flub. Fun fact: He was in Dumb and Dumber as well.
At this time, Prince's band didn't have a formal name, and his first 5 albums -- "For You," "Prince," "Dirty Mind," "Controversy," and "1999" -- were all credited to Prince. Bassist, Andre Cymone, would leave Prince's band after the Dirty Mind Tour and he would be replaced by Brown Mark for the Controversy Tour. Guitarist, Dez Dickerson, would remain through the 1999 Tour and he was replaced by Wendy Melvoin. Though Prince's band was still nameless during this era, the "Revolution" does appear by name on the album cover, though it was barely discernable and was written backwards. "Purple Rain" was the first album credited to Prince and The Revolution, and it would be followed by "Around the World in a Day" and "Parade."
Thanx 4 sharing I've never seen this video before if you listen closely the F bomb is in this song as well he did sing but not very distinctively anyways the song Party up is from the Dirty Mind album the next album was Controversy after that three band members were replaced and the Revolution was BORN... LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR VIDEOS!
My cousin leant my sister Dirty Mind which is what album this is from. During this time I would stay up every Saturday to watch Eddie Murphy on SNL. The one day I didn't was this night. I wasn't a huge fan yet but I wanted to see him. First part of any of this I saw was in 89 during SNL's 15th Anniversary. Thank God for the internet. I was 9 at the time
The band was thr original revolution
When Lisa put her hands in the hair you know she feeling it 😂
Try Prince Adore especially for Valentines 😊
#ICONIC
It wasn’t that it never aired, it went out live. It never aired again in its entirety and his performance never made news because the swearing incident was all tat was talked about.
Musical genius. Watch him dance in little red corvette.
that dirty mind album is literally a 35 minute demo and he just released it.
check out Chuck Berry playing Johhny B, Goode or Maybellene songs, you"ll see where some of the guitarists learned their stuff.
Todd Rundgren was also on that show his 2 videos are not on RUclips either hes quoted as saying in the The Guardian in 2013, Rundgren recalled: “My most interesting experience with Prince was on Saturday Night Live. I was wearing a slightly racy costume in which my, er, package was prominently displayed. And there were some complaints”.
Adding: “Then Prince came on for his first national TV appearance and he wore a pair of tidy-whitey underpants and a big cape. So no matter what anyone had to say about my costume, it became all about Prince in his underwear.”
Go check out his past albums, Dirty Mind, Controversy best you'll ever hear!! Saw him in 1984 and 2004 Detroit MI.
Dude. I thought I liked your Tool reactions! My top two catalogues of all time are Prince and Tool. Keep up the good work my man!
Wow!!!! Salvogi!!!! You are into artists that are not here.....what's going on!!!!!! Another Genius artist who has passed away!!!! Prince always had band members who stayed with him throughout his career. Next you'll be reacting to Stevie Nicks.....lol.....
Andre n prince was going at each other 😂😂
Morris Day wrote this song. He offered Morris Day $10,000 or a music contract. Morris Day took the music contract.
Prince and Michael were the top entertainers of the 80's and 90' s. They are the top of the rock entertainers, besides the super groups
This was an anti-war song surprisingly.
Needed now more than ever! Deep Purple's "Child in Time" is one of the great rock anti-war songs.
Remind subscribers to check that they are still subscribed to the channel. RUclips has gone wonky again. They had me unsubbed!! Great video BTW
It's funny how u laugh bc of the swearing incident. There was a time when TV was strict. Mary Tyler Moore played Dick Van Dyke's wife on his show in the 60's. She came onto stage one day with pants on & almost got fired. That was B4 women/girls wore pants. The old sit comes like this show, I Love Lucy, All in the Family & tht like .. the couples beds were always twin beds, never allowed to "sleep" together. They weren't any feminine product commercials or swearing of course. On & on. Definitely not that any more. But anyway great reactions to Prince. I like some of his music like Purple Reign or Nothing Compares 2 U. He wrote the later. Chris Cornell & Sinead O'Connor did awesome covers of the later as well. May want to check those out. Have a great evening ☮️🙂
They didn't cancel the show. I remember watching it that night. Prince wasn't the only singer there. I don't remember the singer. Prince was banned from TV after his performance of Sexy Dancer on American Bandstand. The SNL per formance was his first time back on TV, and the rest is history.
Todd Rundgren was the other musical guest that evening.
Original lineup except Gail on keyboard, replaced with Lisa. Song written by Morris Day . Prince offered Morris 15k or start his own band , hence THE TIME !
$10,000
Was he wearing his underwear under the jacket? Hard to tell with the guitar in front.
Probably the first performer to sing in his underwear on television.
2:11 Prince video.
Love the amateurish vibe in this performance
Prince was a worthy rival to Michael Jackson in the 80s, one of the best guitarists in the world. R.I.P.
Why do people insist upon comparing Prince to Michael Jackson? I don't get it.
@@andreaschmall5560 This is pop music
@@spawn4582No comparison between the two. Folks that compare them are obviously unfamiliar with Prince's body of work. Prince was a musical genius as opposed to just an entertainer. His musical achievements are enormous.
@@andreaschmall5560 The Prince never performed one direction, he changed it all the time, listen to his albums in the late 80s and early 90s
@@andreaschmall5560 I agree with the premise of your question. They shouldn't be compared to each other. However, the answer to why they are is that Michael thoroughly dominated the music world in 1983. Then the very next year was thoroughly dominated by Prince. So you have 2 black performers who dominate pop music in back to back years. That had never happened before, and I believe that's why they're constantly compared to each other.
he says "that war is such a freaking bore" in that snl performance ...on the cd he says " that war is such a fucking bore...
Studio version is a little slower
He killed him self years later. The guy who said the F word. Sad story
He’s still in his borrowing moves from Mick Jagger phase.
You know nothing about prince?
the greatest. of all time. period.
