I do this when I have random dice that don't match from those big 100+ mixed bags. Anything that isn't matching goes in a separate bag and later I make mixed sets for different applications.

I like to color code my dice when I'm rolling multiple damage types. For example, if I am dealing damage with longsword that deals both holy and electric damage, I'll roll my d8 with 2 white d6s for the holy damage and a yellow d6 for the electric damage. That way I can roll them all at once and immediately know how much of each type has been rolled. It makes it so much easier to seperate it when a character or creature has resistance to certain damage types.

I've always been sayng exactly that. I prefer dice with different colors, they are just easier to find the one you need

Mixing colours is definitely great for newer players, we still get people rolling d10s when asked to roll a d8 and vice versa. But my biggest gripe at the table is when the dice are hard to read. The older I get the more I demand it! A set of Dice I ordered from Q-workshop pissed me off to no end because the pictures were clear and readable white ink on a dark green die... but the set that came was black ink on a dark green, which combined with the design/blending made them super difficult to decipher.

Q-workshop have beautiful dice to look at. Not so much to play with unless you modify them. I have the Halloween set where I painted the ornaments a different color than the numbers an it works like a charm.

Dice Envy has what they call Infinity d4s, much like the 3rd d4 shown except slightly narrower than the barrel d4. I like 'em!

I’ll have to check them out, thanks for the heads up!

I still keep all my weird loose non set dice in a purple Crown Royal bag from the 90s. Cool Idea to use colors, definitely good for newer and younger players. I agree with the d20 color for sure, that was my first thought. It would be nice if you could choose the colors per set.

For sure. I am visual so I am digging it even as a veteran.

The reason d4s look like they do is, because the people who made it want you to suffer when you accidentally drop it and step on it. XD

100% Agree about the D4's. I hate the pyramid d4's.

Color coded is a good idea

Didn't TSR do something like this in the 70's? Probably with the blue Holmes Basic edition or something? Maybe it was later in the 80's with Moldvay Basic?
I think its actually great, and that's probably why also board games do this sort of thing too.

Hmm, I am not sure. Many of the boxed sets of the past were dice still in the sprue and included was a whit crayon to color in the numbers. It would be interesting to find out if there was a multi color die version.

@@AgranakStudios For a cheap multi color set, Chessex has a set called Nostalgia. The percentile is black with dark red text, so I replaced that one. Nice colors, and no crayon required.

I'm not a fan of that Q-workshop's style dice. the design doesn't have that uniform round look to it like the barrel dice does.
