    i’m a 20 year old female and fell in love with hockey at a young age. sad things is, i never got to actually play(just watch) but i’ve ALWAYS wanted to. It’s been a dream of mine to play for as long as i can remember and it would be a shame if i never get to try it. of course starting at 20 isn’t ideal(maybe), but i’d like to believe that anyone can start a sport at any age. I don’t even care if it’s competitive or just for fun, i just want the chance to try it. The thing is, i’m having trouble finding a beginners adult hockey program near me(i don’t have any experience). i’ve skated a few times before and even took a couple of lessons- i absolutely loved it. i know this was posted a year ago, but i hope you can recommend something for me.

      It’s awesome that you are get into the sport and going for it. It’s never to late to start! The good thing about hockey is that leagues are coed and everyone respects that. The sucky part about it is that you’re limited to what leagues rinks have around you. I would call your local rinks and ask what they have for beginners even if it is put you into a higher league. For example my ice league is intermediate but we have a guy on our team that is his first time playing and it’s awesome. Most intermediate leagues have players at all skill levels. If you need more help DM me on Instagram and it will be easier for me to respond to messages

      I’m a 24 year old girl and I’ve worked at a rink for 4 years and never really skated. today I bought my first hockey skates (previously owned figure skates) and skated around for like 20 minutes and loved it. I’ll be doing clinics before and after work to pick up the basics not sure if I’ll ever play on a team but I just missed doing a sport and it just so happened hockey is the most convenient because I work at a rink. Never too late to do something you love.

      @beginneradulthockey Год назад +3

      I started when I was 32! I do think it is never too late - so good for you!
      I would recommend calling your local rink, they can usually tell you the best beginner programs near you. You might realize there are plenty of people just like you with no experience. And if there are not - usually women's leagues are very welcoming of people of all skill levels, and they can help you get better.

    Everything you’ve said is 100% true. I started playing at 26, and hockey completely changed my life for the better. Now at 52, I don’t play any more due to physical issues, but my daughter plays semi-pro hockey and I gave up financial consulting to work in a hockey pro shop. Even at my best, I was never very good at playing. But it was all about having fun and being with the team.

    I really needed the ''please dont quit, you will get better.'' My confidence and motivation for hockey has been so low lately, I've noticed a plateau in my progress and I really get in my head about it and doubt my ability. I'm only 3/4 months in, I can't stop with my left foot but can with my right, I can crossover one side but not the other and I've developed bad habits already. Regardless, thanks for the video

    I am just starting trying to skate not even play the game yet but it has really helped with my mental health. Just gives me something to focus on, I love the feeling of being on the ice and troubles melting away. I used to roller skate and there are some similarities but the ice makes a huge difference and makes it so much more enjoyable for me. Everyone at my local rink has been very encouraging too, they can tell I'm new and are always giving me tips. My only regret is I wish I started sooner.

    • @HockeyAdventures
      @HockeyAdventures  3 года назад +2

      No your not to old to start. It’s never to late to start playing hockey. First thing is to get to your local rink and ask the employees about what leagues are available for you as a beginner and what equipment you need. They will help you out and point you in the right direction. Once you start spent some time to watch pros and learn the rules of the game. When it comes to skills skating is by far the most important. Then stick handling, passing, shooting. Hockey is different then any other sport and it take time to get your skills up. Just stick with it

    Ive been inspired to play hockey. I already know how to skate. I have recently asked my mom if i could start to play but she said no, because it was too rough. im not sure what to do and i know this video is almost 2 years old but id really appreciate if you had any tips on what to do.

    • @HockeyAdventures
      @HockeyAdventures  2 года назад

      Well hockey is a rough sport but not quite what most people imaging. Fighting isn't allowed and in most leagues neither is checking (unless your playing travel hockey). You also wear a lot of equipment to keep yourself safe. Lastly you do wear a cage attached to your helmet so you won't louse any teeth. This is pretty much all I can think of to try to convince her. Maybe even try and get her to talk to the employees at the rink who can give a accurate description of how leagues are at their rink. Best of luck bud

      Defiantly be safe. Do what you feel is right. Corvid sucks and all the rinks around me are still shut down. No worries you can easily become a great player. It’s all in the practice. I started at the age of 31 and have been playing for a few years now. Ice hockey is mostly about the skating, so go skate every chance you get and especially practice the things you’re not good at. Soon you won’t have to think about skating while playing hockey. It will be second nature and will let you concentrate on all the other moving parts.

Websites for rinks aren’t always the best so I recommend going to the rink or calling to get info about the league. The sucky part about hockey is rinks aren’t alway close so it could be an hour drive for a game. If you have any questions you can DM me on Instagram and I can help you more
