Do you think a guy should run that thicker oil regardless if it's weak or not? Can't hurt right?
I think my plan it just to remove the filter on all of mine and run 15w40 in them. What I will do is zip tie a piece of T shirt on the dipstick tube so it keeps big dirt chunks from ever being sucked in

Have you ever had any luck sourcing a filter for these?
No, all you can do is flush them out good in a bath of diesel fuel or just run without the filter but change the fluid more often
