Absolutely fabulous and joyous...I was chuffed to promote the Chieftains at the Edinburgh Pop Festival in 1973 ....they were sensational and and absolute joy to work with. Oh the memories...💚👍
That's where I got to do an hour's masterclass with Paddy in 86, investigating my low whistles. Ad-hoc in the Students Union bar, he was ambling through when he spotted my Dixons sticking out my pack. "D'you play?" asked the leprechaun, I answered it was possible, so he started with some basics, which I graced, then into follow-the-leader, with compliments, and we were off to the races, him on top, me on seconds, giving him his moneysworth because I'd learned from Jimmy G, not from the dots.
Paddy left us a few days ago. The standard of music in heaven will receive a new dimension. RIP good man, great music maker, giver of joy to the world.
And so we say farewell to Paddy, but there'll be a part of Heaven that's just received another fine Irish musician to join the dubs, clancy brothers all the way back to Turlough O' Carolan, Heaven's goin to be rocking tonite.....RIP Paddy, and thank you 👍
My father still listens to the Chieftains, and used to all the time when I a kid. Listening to them is one of my earliest memories. Now at least half of the songs on my IPod are The Chieftains.
I was always made fun of in school because I was a male and played the flute. I used to say, "Look up The Chieftains and tell me that a male can't play the flute!!" Love this band!
In myths and legends, it is usually males who perform the flute. Now, the harp is the one more associated with women, although in many countries with a harp culture (Ecuador, Paraguay, Mexico, Burma, etc.), the virtuoso harpists are mosy men.
Given the high ratio of girls to boys among flute students, I’d say that if a boy wants to meet lots of girls, he couldn’t do better than to take up the flute!
Brian O'Donavan who brought these shows to Worcester Massachusetts lost his battle with brain cancer. Our Irish culture has always had such a fantastic following and it will live on as long as we all share the importance of the music. RIP Brian O'Donavan, thank you for all your work and passion to our culture.
This really made my day in the midst of a stretch of hard times.Very reminiscent of their set at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF last month. I've been a Chieftains fan since about 1975 and once helped Paddy find his way back to his hotel after post-concert shenanigans at a show where they barely filled 2/3 of a local civic auditorium. Mighty craic!
A new approach to world peace: upload the Chieftains' music to communications satellites and downplay it to every antenna non the planet. It's happy-happy-happy-making music.
Hey Celtic fans, be sure to check out our new Channel: WGBH Music. We're no longer uploading to this older channel, but thanks for watching! I'm hoping to post another video from last years Chieftains show to the new channel.
sad to see this great group the chieftains to diminished by time. where is sean keene here?i know martin left the group right after Derek bells death, then also Michael tubridy, sean potts, pedar mercier, one or two others. they are still my favorite group and it is good to see old paddy, kevin, matt still at it. wish they could go one forever!!bobby whitaker
Beautifull, touches celtic influences in many ways, although missing the celtic heritage of Britany and Galicia this is superb, hey, maybe next time.......pretty sure WGBH would be OK with that!
think the first reel was mcloud`s reel...only paddy from the original group back to ceoltoiri chualann.....great musician paddy...his piping inspired so many and he was the first piper in a group format long before the others.

Heart strengthening, glorious. Nothing will ever come close xx
We lost count of how many Chieftains concerts we attended. Brought us so much joy!
The Canadian Ottawa fiddler is an amazing tribute to the OG of the musical origin 💕🙏🏻
holy smoke
how to fit so many talented people in one room without setting the place on fire 🔥

Music like this is what life is all about , no music no life well done boys and girls ❤❤
Another legend taken, but his music will play for ever. Rip.
oh my word.. what a feast..!!
I love the Chieftains. Their music is just so damned joyous.
Forget the “damned” and then I agree.
I was always made fun of in school because I was a male and played the flute. I used to say, "Look up The Chieftains and tell me that a male can't play the flute!!" Love this band!
you can tell 'em Jimi Hendrix played flute too! (he was more experimenting with it but still cool)
Here we see Matt Molloy. Publican and flautist of renown. Also Paddy Molloney plays the tin whistle as well as the uillean pipes

Just found this clip. Brilliant, thanks.
The Harpist is reminiscent of Derek Bell...God rest his soul
Ib think she's a Mexican
Interesting how the harp is nearly as symbolic of national identity in Mexico as in Ireland.
Happy 50th anniversary, Chieftains!
Fantastic!!!!!! Congrats you all 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Hi Lidiani how are you. Greetings from Ireland. It’s a great video with lovely music. Best wishes for a lovely week 😊🙏 Michael

LEGENDS 🫅🏼
Been a fan of the Chieftains since the 60's.... sad to see only three left of the original line up...Still great music...Go hãlainn ar fad..☘
Ovanligt nog låter bandet som ett Ceili-band, vilket i för sig jag älskar att lyssna på inte så långt från Listonvaarna
With great love to my two brothers

What a smashing upload. Thanks! :)
Amazing!
Paddy used to keep his whistles in a case made of two lengths of gutter hinged together, with plastic-covered terry clips holding them in place!
Awesome A+

Sean Keane is still with the group last I heard, but he doesn't travel overseas with them much anymore.
Thank you so much for sharing : )
Paddy makes that tin whistle sing beautifully! But where is Sean Keane? Only three Chieftains.
