The 2013 US Open 9-Ball Championship hot-seat match was between “The South Dakota Kid” Shane Van Boening and “Eagle Eye” Jayson Shaw.
In 2013, Jayson Shaw was just beginning to show the pool world what he was capable of. He had a win at the Empire State 9-Ball Championship earlier in the year, and was mowing down opponents in challenge matches all year.
Shane Van Boening, on the other hand, was already well known. He had multiple Derby City Classic 9-Ball, One Pocket and All Around titles, and was a two time (and the defending) US Open 9-Ball Champion.
This was a race to 11 and the winner had to win by two racks, with a cap of thirteen.
