  • At 5 PM local time on May 3, 2023, iHeartMedia switched the formats of Classic Rock 102.7 WEGR "Rock 103" and Top 40 101.9 KWNW "Kiss FM". This is one of the effects of Audacy selling WLFP to the Educational Media Foundation and moving the country format previously on WLFP to replace Hot AC "FM 100". The new 102.7 Kiss FM tweaked its format to Hot AC as a result of the loss of a Hot AC station.
If anyone has a Sparc SHD-TX2 and are willing to sell it, please message me.

I think this switch was because FM100's Hot AC category will be sunsetting for the sake of 94.1 The Wolf's frequency being bought by EMF, so it had to move into the "The Wolf" branding.
So when iHeart had the opportunity knocking on its door, it gladly opened.

I personally think that the situation going on in Memphis was poorly handled because as it stands now, Memphis has no classic hits station, and a 250 watt Top 40 station.

I read an article that said it would be really wise if 98.9 WKIM changed their format from news/talk to something else, as their ratings are so low they don't even show up.

I wonder if this new iteration of KISS actually got rid of the satellite iFart treatment? And on a side note, there's no more hit music in Memphis. KISS FM and Q107.5 are claiming to be the places for that, but they're both Hot ACs and they have 3x more golds/recurrents than what 101.9 used to have...

I'm afraid that iHeart will still most likely keep the automated format for Kiss in Memphis. Also, isn't B97.7 still Top 40?

    • @AJonAir1
      @AJonAir1 Год назад

Top 40 has not been the greatest in Memphis for awhile. It has to do with demographics. Take this quote I saw on Facebook when the change happened from a former OM/GM who’s worked in the market: 75% black population. 2 hip hop stations. Ton of Urban stations. A Hot AC is more fiscally viable and pick-up potential CHR listeners. CHR in Memphis is too thin or a slice. Hot AC is broader in demo.

since the current changes in memphis radio I ask the following questions-(and to help keep my brain working and in check well to an extent)
    Howard stern on 92.9 wmfs.
does anybody remember when z103 was on the memphis airwaves in the 1980's? does anybody also remember star 98 fm in the 1980's?
when John boy and billy were on at 98.1 in the late 1990's loved that program when I was driving the flower van.
94.1 the buzz with Nikki in the mid-day she rocked the airwaves in this city/so did Megan white over at 98.1 the max in the mid-day/so did Cody Robbins over at 9.89 Kim FM on mid-days.
with fm 100 riding off into the sunset I am sure going to miss early Sunday mornings tuning in to the acoustic sunrise radio program-(with my coffee)-going into work or staying at the house.
(wmf-fm/fm100 this next statement is going to sing/hurt-your station has been un-listenable for many years-i have lots of very fond memories of fm100/wmc fm when I moved to Bartlett in may of 1981.)
the recent changes over at 107.5 over the last 12 to 18 months have also got me wondering. going to whbq all the hits format after dropping the q format then reverting back to the q format and dropping rick dees in the morning during the week. (Really liked listening to the Casey kasem re-plays on Saturday morning or Sunday morning.)
Kim Iverson on fm 100 at 7:00 p.m. they cut gutted her radio program to the bone then they drop the show-(I forgot if the current wife or the ex-wife liked her radio program need to research that)
KIX 106 can't seem to stay with a consistent syndicated radio programs. (note to kit 106 management please pick up the rowdy Yates program and broadcast it on Saturday night from 7:00 p.m. till 12:01 am.
bring back kicking it with kix brooks very good radio program broadcast it overnight seven days a week.
wondering just how long nights with Elaina will last at KIX after they replace Nash Night Live-(really miss Blair Gardner's After Midnight Radio Program from the early 1990's)
98.9 the roar of Memphis needs to go back to 98.9 the bridge-BUT-I have to give the wolf credit enjoy 90's country with Heather on Sunday morning.
95.3 the rebel-(I am just going to throw this out here)-what happed to the classic country format and why did you drop the rowdy Yates program! A listen would really like to know why?
Megan White-Cody Robbins-Nikki come back to the memphis airwaves please ladies!
