Since this was a Jimi Hendrix song, Stevie Ray went to Jimi's father & asked for permission to cover Voodoo Child!! Notice that STV plays lead & Rythym guitar 🎸 at the same time!! R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan!!! ❤😢😢
Only a true VooDoo child could ever make this song sound so good. There have been only two, the Magic Maker Jimmie Hendrix himself and the Texas Tornado Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Sometime in early 1982, on a school night, a now-deceased friend from the oil business called me on the pay phone at Fitzgerald’s, an old house turned bar, in the Heights district of Houston. “Get your butt down here, now,” he said. Half an hour later, I’m standing before Stevie Ray, Chris and Tommy, listening to these guys just rip up the world. There were maybe ten people in the bar upstairs, and me. Never have been the same.
Being an East Texas boy all of my childhood, SRV, ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath were the music that grew me into the man I am today. SRV has ALWAYS been the music of my heart and soul. If fact, I intend on my one day funeral to be a bit ol' party, with kegs, liquor, and rock & roll. The only audible request I have is for Stevie's "Life By The Drop" to play as my worldly being is given to flame in a lake. I decided on that song a long, long time ago.
I live in Austin, Tx. I was fortunate (AF) to see Stevie live on more than one occasion. I saw his brother in a guitar store sitting and playing. Jimi was his biggest influence. It's fair to say we will never stop missing him 😢...thanks for the reaction..
Stevie has absolutely nothing to prove here. He's a totally right handed player and he's playing this left handed with all his tricks as well. He's just INCREDIBLE.
Nah bro the video is reversed. He can't play like that left handed. Even the bass player looks like he's playing left handed. The vid is flipped. Everybody is playing right handed.
my parents took me to beale street on my 21st bday. i had to go to bb kings and get my pic taken with srv's guitar there as well. i also went there for my honeymoon yrs later. a tile fell off the wall by the floor when i went to ladies room. i still have that tile lol 😊 didn't get to see bb but still had the best time ever.
Sorry to pound this in but his initials SRV are mirror imaged so the vid is reversed. Almost a tribute to Jimi and then went to go behind his back. I can imagine Jimi would be ok with the quality of the homage.
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 THE goat of all goats A couple of notes about Stevie: 1) He was an alcoholic and drug addict until 1986. He spent his remaining days sober and trying to help other addicts. 2) He was very, very humble. Don't get me wrong, on stage he was going to give you your money's worth, but he was incredibly humble; always quick to talk about his heroes...Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Jimi, etc.. In addition, when he shared the stage with other guitarists he would pull the throttle back as to not disrespect the other gunslingers. 3) He came on the scene in 1983 when hair bands, parachute pants and synthesizers ruled the airwaves. Blues was an afterthought and all the old guys were left playing shithole dives. When Stevie hit it big he started telling everyone about his heroes and they soon began to sell a lot of albums and play bigger venues. Buddy Guy is credited with saying that Stevie did for blues what MJ did for basketball. **Life Without You at Capitol Theater ** **Tightrope at Austin City Limits 1989** **Leave My Girl Alone at Austin City Limits 1989** **Mary Had a Little Lamb at Austin City Limits 1989**
Thank you for this reaction. I've been a huge fan of SRV ever since the beginning. I was blessed to have seen him with his band, Double Trouble more than once! He was an amazing guitarist and blues gentleman. Lovelovelove 😁❤️👍🏽
@@cathycampbell254 he played right hand. Look at the letters on the body of the guitar and you can see they are mirrored...meaning they look like they are a reflection
Great version to react to. This was Jerry Lewis Telethon. Stevie was a an amazing charibtle man especially when it came to anyone’s health he was organizing events as as just show up to help! He is GOAT in so many ways!!!!! His fans loved him as he loved to give back to his fans!!!!! He was clean in this video! His message of his road to sobriety still helps people! Miss you Stevie! Yes yes yes. So cool to see a reactor with an appreciation of Hendrix experiencing this incredible interpretation and homage to Jimi. And SRV’s version of Little Wing brings tears to my eyes every time. 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
Little Wing always makes me cry too. Never had a tune make me feel things I don't even understand. Jimi began that for me, and Stevie took it over the edge of the emotional cliff. They must have been kindred spirits, now united. 💙💙👼👼🏾. ☮️ to all.
@@claireburling8547 Hey, I love your words about the brothers Jimi and Stevie - beautifully said Claire. Other guitarists you may know of that I’ve loved for years, also inspired by Hendrix, are Robin Trower and Eric Johnson. And one I came across last year is Eric Gales. ☮️ 🎸 🤘🏼
Wow! One of the best guitarist ever. I love the way the video is a mirror image of his original performance. Makes him look like he's playing lefthanded like Jimi. He was a master at the craft and I feel fortunate to have seen him in concert way back in 87.
No one should ever be that good, Stevie truly was a guitar god. My socks were blown off. First song I ever heard from him way way back in the day was Cold Shot and I was hooked.
Yeah. Good thing it was the end of the tune. Tuning got all f d up. I think he always had his trem floating. What a beast. Watching his videos is exhilarating. Would have had my brain blown if I ever saw him live. What a shame.. too soon
I just listened to a remastered version of Tin Pan Alley...I was BLOWN AWAY!!! Stevie does not play a guitar...Stevie SINGS with The Guitar! Stevie and The Guitar are ONE and the same. When you hear The Guitar...you are listening to Stevie sing with his other God given voice! I have listened to a lot of guitar legends in my 55 years...I cannot think of anyone who has left me with my mouth hanging wide open like SRV. AMAZING!
"This man's hand strength is incredible..." At the time of this recording Stevie was using 13 gauge strings on his guitars (string gauge is described as the thickness of the low E string, the other strings are each a step lighter). The average string gauge on a guitar is 9, maybe 10's if you want to go a bit heavier. 13's are like piano wire, Those bends he does in Voodoo Chile are all the way across the neck of the guitar. So yeah... incredible hand strength.
He actually replaced his frets with bass frets so that they could handle the strings. One time, he played the callous right off of his finger and he super glued it back on to finish the set. He was a monster, in the best possible sense of the word.
Very few guitarists have the otherworldly gift of walking on stage and closing their minds to their surroundings and let the music take over without being consiously aware of what they are playing
Do you realize he normally did not play the guitar upside down and backwards? He did it this way as a tribute to Jimmy Hendrix. Two brilliant guys connected through music. Respect 🙏
Life Without You at the Capitol Theatre, SRV, aside from his unparalleled guitar playing, establishes himself as a great vocalist, songwriter and lyricist and inspirational speaker in this gut wrenching ballad he wrote for a friend who'd passed away. This will probably cement his place as your favorite musician of all time.
Every time I watch SRV play a solo like this I find myself falling into a sort of hypnotic state of disbelief. Then when I snap out of it I always ask the same question over and over and over............ can a guitar be played with any more talent, soul and passion than that! TY for reacting.
I noticed that people who are just now hearing SRV for the first time comment on how the audience is just laid back and appear to be bored...I guarantee you we were not bored, we were mesmerized watching him play. Not only that but the sound levels he liked to play at made your body rumble...you could FEEL it.
We all have our favorites - as a guitar player for what it is worth - Stevie was the GREATEST. He was the Magic Man. He did things we'll never see again and is really the last holder of the title of Guitar God till we lost him in 1990. Jimi, Jimmy Page, Clapton, Santana, BB King, Robert Johnson, Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour and so many more are up in the highest echelon - but only really Jimi and Stevie reside together above all. If you watch the "SRV - Voodoo Child - Live form Austin City Limits" you'll see how he plays even his own incredible cover so much differently, but as good or better than this treasure here. But I'd go check out a cool groovy Stevie, showing off more of his skills and just beautiful sounding soul blues music with a rock edge, "Mary Had a Little Lamb" live from Austin or "Crossfire" from that same show would be great directions to head to but they are endless. Welcome my friend - that battered 62 Strat he has he called "Number 1" and it - at least to blues guitar players - may be the most valuable object on the Earth. It sits as it should with older brother Jimmy now in his 70's but still playing. If you want to see a random but so so super cool rarely reacted to clip, check out Stevie and Jimmy playing "Pipeline Live" together. It has a really cool trick to it so is a blast to see but also sounds incredible and is touching showing off the brothers together.
SRV, Hendrix and Jeff Beck ( if you haven't checked Beck out you'll dig him 2) are not human. They all come from a planet where they do nothing but okay guitar. Rock on.
My also being (a not so good) guitar player noticed that most of Stevie's licks were not difficult, but it was the way he played them that really made the difference. I've tried to learn a few of the more difficult licks, utter failure. There are very few guitar players that make me want to put my guitar in the closet, from being embarrassed. Stevie Ray Vaughn is one and Doyle Dykes is the other. Check him out on "Free Bird", mind blowing. ;-)
I love listening to Stevie play, I love the sounds he demands and begs and teases out of his guitar, but I also love how into it he is. He was living his best life each and every time he had a guitar in his hands, you can tell it's a part of him, an extension of his arms, hands and heart. I have seen no one I enjoy more. My brother introduced me to him, and he is someone I didn't get to see in concert, I wish I had. He is wonderful with Albert King.
You are right Stevie was a badass guitar player and just to let you know this performance was at Charlie Daniel's benefit with Lynyrd Skynyrd also performing. So Charlie's band and Skynyrds band were on the side of the stage checking out this performance. A awesome experience had by all I'm sure. A great concert to ck. Out is SRV live at Datona Beach. The whole show was incredible.
He was a great!!!! He sadly died way too soon...he had stopped drugs and booze and he showed the world you could still do this...there was only one Stevie...can you imagine what his music would be today?!?...I have been listening to him for years.. he was the best..
SRV, greatest by far ! On and off stage he was a good human ! He fought hard to break in to mainstream because he wasn't a cookie cutter . His guitar skills have never been matched.
You, my friend, have witnessed the greatness that was the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan. I really enjoyed your honest joy in discovering him, and I just became a fan of yours.
Just noticed, Steevie is playing the frets with his right hand here, but uses his left hand on Texas Flood. Ambidextrous guitarist ? and I am not surprised.
Yes Polo. He poured his heart out when he played. He played his concerts like that from the 1st song to the last always. John Mayer can get that type of sound on his guitar when he wants too. But even John said he can't do it for long without his forearms cramping up. You need to checkout Stevie Ray Vaughan "In Sessions" jamming with the Legend Albert King.
I really enjoyed this....pure talent. Stevie Ray Vaughan was taken from us far too soon. I'm glad you are introducing him to so many others who may never have heard of him otherwise. If you have not already, would also love to see a first time reaction from you to Dimash Qudaibergen. Video - "Dimash - S.O.S | Slavic Bazaar". He has a beautiful voice. He may possibly be the best male singer in the world. Also "[ENG SUBS] Dimash Kudaibergen - Sinful Passion (No Glitch...)". Ensure closed captioning is on to also appreciate the beautiful lyrics to these songs. Dimash is truly a rabbit hole.
Oh, Stevie, our beloved. He is missed every day. Stevie had some cord of divinity running through him that manifested through his guitar. A conduit. His version of "Little Wing" is my absolute favorite song in the world. And that is saying quite a lot for me.
I am so glad to see young men and women appreciate the older musicians! We lost SRV way too soon. I never got to see him live. Love ACDC! And saw their first live concert in the USA! I am 67 now and hoping to see them again! Thank you for a great reaction!
Great reaction man, and welcome to the world of Stevie Ray! Just in case you are interested, there are two more incredible live versions of Voodoo Chile by Stevie which are are really worth watching as well, one from the El Mocambo in 1983, and another from Austin Texas 1989. They will blow you away. Mary had a little lamb from Austin Texas is also amazing, as is Tightrope. Crossfire Live at Night Music is unreal. Couldn't stand the weather live is blistering too. Stevie was one of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar, no doubt.
Polo I'm a drummer, and have been in to music my whole life, I'm 53 years old and yes he is one of the best guitarists that ever picked one up, No Doubt!!!!!!
I second this recommend - he plays it right after he lets his soul go free in maybe the best slow blues ever recorded in the very same "Texas Flood" El Mocambo show - after that now legendary blistering jaw dropping song, he does "Lenny" and it caps off a set of sets. Seeing this on VHS in 1995 changed my life, those 2 tracks specifically stand out in my memory. I already loved SRV and had devoted my guitar hero status to him just off of hearing and becoming addicted to "The Sky is Crying" posthumous release - a first edition SRV Strat was my HS grad present in 1994 - but I still had no idea - no you tube in 1995 - ha, we had to work hard to get access to live shows still - my neighbor one door over had a catalog of bootleg concert recordings and some legit ones which El Mocambo was - but I remember watching and it was so incredible you felt drained - then he came with Texas Flood and my jaw dropped as I truly could not believe what I had just seen. Then with dumb look on my face and mouth open, he plays "Lenny" - so cool - the cigarette - so gloriously beautiful, and it sealed the deal forever. It is a perfect come down from the prior song, but filled with such inner soul and delicate precision - ah screw all the talk, it is amazing listen to this man!
another under rated guitarist is Jeff Healey...in fact these two did some stage work together...and oh yeah, Jeff is blind not that it matters by his talent...check it out
Someone else said this first but.. SRV went down to the crossroads and made a deal with the devil. Know one knows what Stevie got in return but the devil got guitar lessons.
My favorite part about this cover from SRV is that he doesn't f*** up Jimi's song! He plays it like Jimi and doesn't try to put his own twist on already amazing s***!
Yes sir Stevie Ray Vaughan from Texas just like me one of the greatest guitars ever lived BB King look it up he used to sit and watch BB King and that bunch and play with them.
Stevie RAY!!! This man is a guitar genius and voice is crazy and left the world too early. Stevie Ray Vaughan rendition of Jimi Hendrix Little Wing gives me chills every time I listen to it. You should check it out.
To do that alone is insane, now with the thickest strings for guitar is madness! 1990 is when my track coach introduce me to STV, Johnny Winter, & Jeff Healey.
Welcome to the STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WORLD.. GET ON THE TRAIN.. YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO GET OFF!!! HE IS DEFINITELY A ONE OF A KIND THE BEST EVER.. PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO BE LIKE HIM ..BUT NEVER EVER COME CLOSE!!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble! To see another side of Stevie’s playing, and his true love, the Blues, check out his “Tin Pan Alley” featuring Johnny Copeland. Wow!
The amazing thing is, Stevie ray Vaughan is a right handed guitar player, here he is playing super as a left handed! Truly amazing! He was a one of a kind !
5/9/2022 Polo, just like you I discovered SRV after he was gone. I had turned the rock off on the radio, (my loss) but one day just for fun I turned on the local "oldies" rock station and this sound came out like I had never heard before. SRV playing "Cross Fire". I said ; Who the hell is that" The DJ said it was SRV, and I went to a store and found the two disc set, "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughn". About a month later Austin City Limits did his live concert. Stevie Ray was already gone, by then, so I never got to see him live. Polo. your reaction is not unusual. Many can't seem to believe he could play like that. Of curse, not every tune he did was this good, but so much was, it seems to be hard to gather in all at once. There are other great guitarists out there. None of the greats are just like another, but some will do like Stevie did here in respect and or homage to the original. I'm glad you liked it. ;-)
I seen both Stevie Ray and Hendrix live in concert and heard both do Voodoo Child. Both amazing, both taken from us far too soon. I am not sure about who I liked better but Stevie used the heaviest guage strings on his box which does resonate at a deeper level at least to me. Huge talents. Huge
I don’t know what I like more, his Swag, his voice or the guitar. “Check out ain’t gona give up on love” live at capitol theatre or “life without you” capitol theatre
Since this was a Jimi Hendrix song, Stevie Ray went to Jimi's father & asked for permission to cover Voodoo Child!!

You do realize he's right handed, look what he can do. I'm 64 years old and I seen him in concert before he passed. RIP MR. VAUGHN. Kick ass
I love your videos. Stevie was a phenomenon. We are so blessed to have these performances on video.
Heart & soul, Stevie gave it all, sorely missed, never forgotten.
He was a great!!!! He sadly died way too soon...he had stopped drugs and booze and he showed the world you could still do this...there was only one Stevie...can you imagine what his music would be today?!?...I have been listening to him for years.. he was the best..
I'm happy that you have discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now that you know him you will never forget
Awesome guitar music. It never gets old the 1st time to the 20th still soooo good. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
SRV and his music is forever.
I still can't believe he's gone.
He is the original GOAT!!!
Oh, Stevie, our beloved. He is missed every day. Stevie had some cord of divinity running through him that manifested through his guitar. A conduit. His version of "Little Wing" is my absolute favorite song in the world. And that is saying quite a lot for me.
El Mocambo is my favorite version of Little Wing. And like you, my favorite song by SRV.
Great reaction!!!! Life without you Capitol theater. He loses a tooth playing the guitar
Welcome to the SRV CLUB! Life changing!
HE WAS THE KING
For me Stevie the greatest of all time.
I am so glad to see young men and women appreciate the older musicians! We lost SRV way too soon. I never got to see him live. Love ACDC! And saw their first live concert in the USA! I am 67 now and hoping to see them again! Thank you for a great reaction!
What Big Fun... to be able to watch you react to Stevie Ray... for the very first time!!!! Love it!!!! Please go down his rabbit hole!!! Thanks!!💙💙💙💙💙
The Goat. His Life by the drop will close my funeral.
He’s the most entertaining guitarist I’ve ever seen. I was so bummed out when he died.
It was a tire tragedy when Stevie Ray Vaughn died so young. All the lost music and he was such a unique person,🙏
The 89 version is great but far from the best not sure why everyone recommends it. This one, cotton club, Tokyo and even rockpalast are better
GREATEST that ever walked the Earth!
Y’all notice that it looks like he’s playing it Jimi style left handed upside down. 😮
Greatest musician I have ever seen in my lifetime!
Polo I'm a drummer, and have been in to music my whole life, I'm 53 years old and yes he is one of the best guitarists that ever picked one up, No Doubt!!!!!!
Love your channel dude. If you’re planning on more SRV, ‘Lenny’ from the El Mocambo show is truly something special.
Appreciate it my guy!
Yessir!
Just about anything from El Mocambo is a win for a react video. The string break seals it for most people.
We have guitarist called the greatest, the G.O.A.T. but SRV is THE MASTER
Yes! YES!!! SRV is guitar God status. Gone to soon, but his music is forever.
He was the master ! The real king.
another under rated guitarist is Jeff Healey...in fact these two did some stage work together...and oh yeah, Jeff is blind not that it matters by his talent...check it out
Healey was also a really fine trumpet player.
Jeff Healey was in the movie Road House with Patrick Swayze. He too died way to young.
When he was done, that guitar needed a cigarette. He just channeled another spirit, my favorite, the Greatest. Thank for this.
When you can play like Stevie Ray, you’ve earned the right to show off.
SRV is/was incredible, miss him so much.
SRV, goat, the guitar was an extension if his body, mind, and soul.
AND you know he's trying to show Jimi up! He's just got mad respect and just trying to do him proud and be as good as him!
He is the goat
Yes sir Stevie Ray Vaughan from Texas just like me one of the greatest guitars ever lived BB King look it up he used to sit and watch BB King and that bunch and play with them.
There have only been a handful of guitarists of this caliber. Ever.
Only Stevie and Hendrix really "feel it" amazing talent.
Stevie RAY!!! This man is a guitar genius and voice is crazy and left the world too early. Stevie Ray Vaughan rendition of Jimi Hendrix Little Wing gives me chills every time I listen to it. You should check it out.
Love the look on your face!! He was so incredible!
Most awesome clip ive ever seen of SRV
To do that alone is insane, now with the thickest strings for guitar is madness!
1990 is when my track coach introduce me to STV, Johnny Winter, & Jeff Healey.
Love me some Stevie Ray! 😍
I've been a guitarist for 30 years now. To me, Stevie is at the top of the f*cking mountain.
Best live performance I ever saw...
Stevie had to leave us to go back to his home Planet.. RIP, SRV NO ONE CAME CLOSE TO SRV Stevie you are truly missed everyday brother ....
There was NO one like him nor will there ever be. RIP SRV.
He played behind his back to cool off his hotdog!
That guitar is hot!!!
He's not, the video is inverted. Here's the actual video.

Polo, just like you I discovered SRV after he was gone.
I'm glad you liked it. ;-)
on Jimmy's wah-wah pedal with those snakeskins. That is crazy.
Ive noticed he never plays a song the same way twice. Amazing musician
You see he is playing lefty that is what when greats pay tribute to other greats.
SRV. And jimmy are the class of their own for sure
The man is legendary and sorely missed.
that it’s SRV, my favorite blues-rock guitarist, and you are as amazed and impressed, made me subscribe. You HAVE to watch him do Texas Flood.
Huge
Stevie was right handed ! He is playing left handed on a right handed guitar upside down ! The best that will ever be. Drop the Mike !!!
I don’t know what I like more, his Swag, his voice or the guitar. “Check out ain’t gona give up on love” live at capitol theatre or “life without you” capitol theatre
