I love this channel! For over a year, I have been trying to listen to all previous shows while I declutter and then clean and I still have many more to listen to and learn from. Thank you!!!!
I decluttered my hoarded home 12 years ago. It was the beginning of my mental health journey to process my trauma. It took 3 years to declutter my home and last week I finally finished processing my trauma. A 12 year journey in total (it was a lot of trauma). I truly think decluttering started to process for me. I honestly thought it would take a lifetime! I still declutter regularly and it feels so calm and peaceful inside and out now!
I donated a tremendous amount of things after downsizing into our 400 Sq ft RV The charity I chose was Rover Rescue. They bring animals from high-kill shelters to the Chicago area and use funds from their summer Barn sales to vet them. Last year they raised over $40,000.00 from donations for their animals. I loved watching people take away things I loved yet didn’t have room to keep! Nothing is priced. Instead it is whatever the person taking it wants to donate. Such a great way to let go of things!
It might sound odd but one of the things that has been helpful for me, similarly to the hotel room, has been in-patient mental health care. Simple and uncluttered space, just a few items to care for and see and deal with. It made me realize how overwhelming my home space was feeling and how it was draining me. How out of control it felt. It helped to be out of that space a bit ad get a break. While not the primary concern for my stay, it ended up being an important insight.
Yes agree on being thoughtful who you give items to as not to 'burden' others, especially the ones who can't say no and/or have a hard time letting go of stuff. When I downsz, I have taken this into consideration. 😊
I daily declutter (trash/recycle/stuff)= I track myself w/the 30 day decluttering challenge, marking everyday the items decluttered = I don't do a set amt, just something = been doing this for several yrs now, this is probably my 'detailed' self coming out = a Fun way to minimize, even the trash in our lives, at least for me. 😊

What a journey you’ve been on, and I’m so happy to hear you’ve reached your peaceful place after all that work. Inspiring! Thanks for sharing
