I am one of those somebody's that didn't have a clue and have 4 cats sooooooo..... You can imagine. I am very very grateful for this. Bless you, now I have my own handyman in you lovey 💕.
Excellent! Thanks so much for sharing this info. I've got 2 of those dehumidifiers running in my basement for a number of years and am embarrassed that I've never cleaned the filters. As you say, pretty strait forward but some of us don't know. Know we do!
I'm so grateful I found this video. I've had this for years. I had no idea there was a filter. It has been sitting in storage for some time and has a mildewy pool room kind of smell. I sprayed it with vinegar and cleaned the reservoir tank and was ready to toss it. Thank you! 🙏
Thank you very much for the concise instructions, especially mentioning that you need to reset the filter button. Important step that was not in my booklet.
Thanks alot dude I've never used one in my life till today, and I was trying to find out what that light meant and when I was informed that the filter needed to be clean I started looking for were it wasntill I stumbled upon your video thank you
Wow thanks I just bought one of these Dehumidifiers at a yard sale for 20$ got a good deal brand new found your video now at least I know how to clean the filter🤣 awesome thanks much Godbless🙏🏼
❣ - Great video! Who knew I will have to be the one left behind to clean the filter after 35 years of marriage. Model of the story Ladies learn everything you can so when time comes you know how to do it instead of offering to make a cup of tea while your better half clean the filters. Thank you and many blessings 💙🙏🇿🇦🇺🇸
I just spend yesterday almost $200 dollars on a new one. Today i found your video. I have a very hairy dog. That was disgusting when i open it. Thank you so much!
Super helpful! I have the same one and just learned there’s a filter to remove and clean😅😬. Can you make another video for how to clean out the rest of the unit?
Thanks, I have the same request. I got into the bucket, but was afraid to remove the water filter for fear of breaking something off. The diagram in the manual doesn’t help much. My model is APEL70LWLI.
Thanks so much for this! I had no idea these had filters. Bet my mom has NEVER cleaned hers either. Got mine at a 2nd hand store looks like it was used 1 season but no instructions on how to clean it or care or use it! Again thank you very much!
My mother had one in her basement, but after she finished it she had no need for it and gave it to me. As soon as I turned it on, my room started to smell really dusty, and I had no idea why. Turned out the filter had a HUGE amount of dust. It took 5 minutes of brushing off the large chunks and then bathing it in water for it to be clean. WOW.
I really wish I saw this sooner. I think it’s too late for mine because I haven’t clean the filter out in a year… it still works but I think the engine is worn out now
Thanks for tip on 3 sec hold to reset filter light! QUESTION: have you cleaned the coils that the filter sits over? Someone said there are enzyme foams to use on the coils.
Watch the whole video! I saw the "slide out the filter here" part, said to myself "hah - easy peasy", stopped the video and went down and cleaned it. I have lots of things with filters here at the house, there is always a little trick and now I figured that I knew this one. Felt good. Oops, hang on - the filter light stayed on. People that watch the rest of the video will know how to turn out the light ;-)
Dumb question: Is the Dehumidifier Bucket suppose to be empty when in operation: does it collect the water from the "humid-air"; thus that is how the bucket gets full? The GE dehumidifier model adel30lwq1, I just got very cheap [maybe broken] - seems to have all parts, but then I downloaded the manual and learned that there is a piece of foam. I think it is the humidifier float Part #WK11X10007. The bucket and filter is clean, but the drain hose connection needs a little blowing out of debris.
I just bought an older house and the basement has a dehumidifier that drains into a pipe. Anyway our basement is dry. No mold or mildew anywhere but there is an odor and I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. Could the dehumidifier be the culprit ?
I don’t think I could be the dehumidifier. Could be coming from the drain itself take some bleach dump down the drain see if that helps. Thank you for watching!
@@brob8880 not sure about that bud. Mine seems to kick off a funk. I am cleaning tonight and see if it helps. I generally keep the drip tray clean but i totally forgot to clean the air filter for at least a year now😅my model does not have an air filter reminder light
I can confirm the drains can smell too because my old house also has that problem. My solution was to wrap plastic wrap around the drain and that helped. Of course i use the bleach sometimes but the smell always comr back quickly. So i macguyvered the plastic wrap thing. I notice the smell.comes back when i lift the drain out at shower time. However.it is not the same smell which i notice from my dehumidifier when in use. Imo both could be kicking off smells. Thanks for the video guy. Btw i think the hair dryer is unnecessary and the heat may damage the screen or plastic. I prefer to do the final dry with paper towels
If your filter has not been cleaned for a while, or ever. You must expose and clean the grills. I just helped a neighbor, and the grills were covered in disgusting hair, mold, and various debris. This was causing the heavy musty odor emanating from the unit. All is well now. Best wishes!
Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Hey man thanks for the video I saw another video where the guy actually unscrew the back and took the machine apart and cleaned out the inner coils. But it's not really easy to do I was wondering if you'd ever would consider doing a deep clean like that and if you do so please make a video about it
Mine has been making kind of a funky smell when it's been running and I totally forgot about the air filter I haven't cleaned it in a long time so I did that and I'll see if it helps otherwise I may consider doing the deep clean but I'm a little nervous about cracking some of the plastic parts or damaging the electrical components so I'm not really keen on taking it apart fully to clean the coils. Mine is only a few years old but it has gotten a lot of use by the way I have a tip you can put some sort of filter over the holes on the outside to help keep the inside cleaner
I'm going to see how it runs after my next use also there was a little bit of dust on the inside of the machine I tried to clear it out as much as I could. To really get it clear I need to take it apart though and that's going to be hard to do especially since part of the plastic is crack and I think if I take it apart it's going to totally break that piece
Actually contacted the manufacturer today they told me they don't have that piece in stock they also told me that this model is no longer being manufactured which is really strange because I just bought it two years ago
I was gonna throw my damn dehumidifier because I can't find the filter. Thank you so much. You were just at the right time.
I am one of those somebody's that didn't have a clue and have 4 cats sooooooo..... You can imagine. I am very very grateful for this. Bless you, now I have my own handyman in you lovey 💕.
Omg mine smells horrific...like cat urine yuk
I'm a new homeowner with the same device and didn't know how to change the filter. Thank you for the clear straight to the point video.
Never thought these things had a filter until it stopped working. Problem solved in five minutes after watching your video. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome thanks for watching!
Very useful. I couldn't find the filter until watching this video. Thanks!
I am also one of those people who had no idea how to clean the filter. You saved me big bucks! Thanks
Had to clean my filter for the first time today..Thank you for posting such easy, clear directions!

I don't even want to share how nasty mine was. I am surprised it didn't stop working. Smells so much better. thank you!
Hey bro, this was great, simple and straight to the point. That’s the best was for me to learn. I appreciate this video and you. Thanks!!
