- Travis Jorde from Minnesota was born the same year as his 1938 Graham Bradley Tractor. The Graham-Bradley tractor was built by the Graham-Paige Motors Corporation of Detroit in Michigan. The tractors were distributed by the Sears-Roebuck Company which owned the Bradley factory and built implements. The production only lasted a few years before the company re-tooled for World War 2 production.Travis shares the history story of this tractor that in many ways was ahead of its time. Those old tractors and the men who ran them I hope we never forget
yep
im floridian but i live in a place where 5 acres is small
but i will be working on cars and trucks restoring them
keep in mind im a melinal technicaly
but new cars are to damn relyable for my liking
My great and great great grandfather were farmers. At the moment we have 6 graham Bradley’s, in are old barn just sitting there. One day hope to restore all of them. They all ran and were just parked. So wouldn’t take much to get them running. We have one standard graham Bradley. Used to have two of them but sold one several years ago for a good penny.
There's a new book coming out on the history of the GB, and they have their annual show in Pontiac, IL this September. Lots of buyers and parts will be there.
Back in the 90s my grandfather had one. I remember cutting wood with the buzz blade mounted on the front. I was always impressed how smooth that engine ran for how old the tractor was.
From Muskegon, Michigan. Home of the Continental company and their world renowned Red Seal motors.
Cool tractor!
Just the other day my wife asked me, "What is that model tractor on the entertainment stand? Is it special?"
I told her, "Yes it is. It's a 1938 Graham Bradley. They were sold by Sears. You could order one right out of the catalog".
And here today, is the '38 Graham Bradley, and she watched the episode with me. Thanks for posting it!
My grandparents ordered their house from the Sears and Roebuck catalog.
I believe the kit was around 1900 dollars?
And why not.
Where’d you get the model tractor?
@@Everetttango1 I don't remember. I've had it for years. Watch eBay for one.

I came up on a small farm in the 70s-80s. We didn't have any equipment this old but, we did have stuff from the 50s on. Today, seeing the old equipment makes me think of old friends. Our family farm is long gone but, seeing modern equipment in the fields does nothing for me. I'm fortunate enough to have tracked down 3 of the tractors that I grew up with. They're being restored in my shop slowly but surely. My twin 4 year old grandsons LOVE "helping" me work on them. Modern equipment just doesn't have any personality. The old guys n gals just look friendly. There's actually a 1938 Sears "Economy" tractor on the cover of the March/April issue of Antique Power magazine.
Looks like a piece of art!
That's why I clicked on the thumbnail!
Looks like a tasteful, low slung hot rod. Needs more and bigger fenders though. Shame they are too rare to be worth customizing.
By him being 70 years old and born in 1938, that makes this video made in 2008. Very nice tractor. Thanks.
Congratulations on your math skills. Hopefully someday I’ll learn to add
I believe his point is, it gives 2019 at the description. Smart allick's every where. Thanks Bill in W.V.
Nice collection of tractors! Great to hear about increased sales of decals. Hope more tractors are getting restored! Wish Sears could make a comeback! 🇺🇸👍🚜
Back when Sears sold literally everything of quality at affordable prices.
The golden age of Sears.
You could buy your house, your fence, your dog, your wife and your kids ... all from Sears !
That’s one styley tractor, hard to believe it’s round 80 years old.
I like this video very much, as I;m all most 82 and the old tractor where about the time when I was born and growing up, Thanks for sharing'
The 1938 Graham Bradley tractor even had a snazzy art-deco look.
Beautiful machine.
Thank you from Canada - just across the line.
not a foreign country though lol
I like that one of the selling points is - you can go help your friend that's 20 miles away and cross the distance in less than an hour with this tractor - very good
Truly a beautiful tractor.
I would love to see a more uncut video of Travis’ Deere collection! I’m sure his green knowledge is almost unparalleled!
that is a beautiful restoration
There's a older fella up here in Southern Ontario with a standard similar to this one. He also has another one that's a narrow front
I like hearing my home state in any video
Never realized just how similar these were to an Oliver 70.
Fantastic collection of tractors. 👍
That John Deere WA-14 is one of 23 built.
You got a treasure on your hands. Good for a hayride!
It would make nice parade tractor too
Wow, thats a cool tractor. Love the inline 6 cylinder engine.
Great to see this, as a Sears retiree, I am appalled at what has happened to a once great name in retailing.
very nice 👍
Cool story both these guys look good for 1938 models
Yo, this guy has the WA-14! That's awesome! He needs the WA-17 too.
Nice tractor. A good friend of mine has a fully restored graham paige supercharged automobile.
Sounds like this tractor was like the Pierce Arrow trailers. A failing car company just trying, unsuccessfully, to branch out to survive. The final Graham's were built in 1940.
@@seed_drill7135 The Graham Brothers tried their best, but the Great Depression was hard on them. They got into trucks, and they got into cars, but their heart was always in farming.
Terrific looking tractor, Mr Jorde! You were my drafting teacher in '68...! That's why those decals are so darned nice!!!! I'd love to see that in person some day; keep up the great job!
now THAT's neat!!! seeing someone's drafting teacher after all these decades!
@@hankaustin7091 And he only lives about 3 miles from me! Have to stop in and see him...! He was a great teacher. One of my favorite classes. (mechanical drafting)
way back in the 60's my dad bought a Graham Bradley narrow front, it had a fast 4th gear but it was hard to get to even go in 4th, it was so high geared,, the steering was pretty loose due to the chain drive setup they had, ours had a lot bigger rear tires than this one in the video has. my dad broke it in half one time trying to pull stumps, it reared up and I guess the front was too heavy, he found a used casing and we got it back to working again.
Beautiful tractor.
awesome and good job never should classic history like that ever go to the scrap yards send the new ones lol
Sears also sold houses. There was a Sears house in the town where I grew up.
The Man and the tractor
I love the styling.
Love your WA-14 I only have a model of it but understand it's a rare model hand made in Iowa just hearsay would like the rest of the story
1:42 Nice tractor. I noticed there is a front wheel bolt missing.
Had no idea. Cool
Great Tractor and video. Thumbs up for you and I also live in Minnesota also.
The Sears I like to remember.
Yep, I ordered one... still waiting for it to arrive.
I used to live in a 1942 Sears Cape Cod home.
My aunt has a Sears house in Bailey Cross Roads Va. House was moved in the '80's about 1/4 mi.
I really like the graham Bradley tractor I've never seen one of those before but they look way ahead of the time built before the Farmall letter series came out
Sad what has become of Sears. My Great Grandpa was the railroad depot agent in Savoy, MT and I remember hearing how people in the area would order homes from the Sears catalog. All the lumber, windows, doors, etc would come into the train depot and people would go build their house.
I live in one of those houses.
My neighbor lives in a Montgomery Ward home.
Yeah I've heard about them. True shame the legacy is ending though with the rise of Amazon
hello from eyota minnesota
That Grahan Bradley is a beautiful old tractor and the others in the collection are also very nice. I have 2 David Bradley 2 wheel garden tractors from Sears, haven't used them in a while but they stay covered up and are in OK shape. Just wondering if they are an offshoot of the Graham Bradley. If anyone knows it would be cool to find out. TY.
I'll be 60 next month. My mom grew up on a farm in Tennessee and I remember my dad telling me about how her dad was still using a team of mules when they first met during the late 40's. He was just a sharecropper with 200 acres. Today it seems like it's mostly just the huge mega farms that have survived, but in those days there were still lots of small guys and many were still using mules up to 1950 or so. Tractors were just more than a poor sharecropper could afford for a good many years.
I saw a row crop model at an estate auction in the 1980s
Eighty one years old and better in so many ways than anything you can buy today. A marvel way ahead of its time. No, no modern hydraulics and shuttle shift and creepy hydrostatic controls but for what it did well it trumps all the new ones. They don't even make any small gasoline tractors anymore. If I had this it would go back to work. 2:20 to 2:23, did I see a little antifreeze drip?
Spark and it ran that smooth on just a bottle of gasoline?
With the small rear tires and wide front, it looks a lot like an orchard tractor.
Anyone else notice the John Deere-Wagner WA-14?
Yes. Sears had about everything at one time.
Роскошный трактор.
Sears was the Amozon of it's time. But didn't change with the times. There mail order system would have transferred to the internet. Instead they shut it down. Oops! Now there gone.
Does he celebrate his birthday party with the tractor since they were born at the same time
Sure why not? 👨🔧🎂🍷🍨
I would! That tractor looks like he'd enjoy having a few oils, while I had a few barley pops, at a good party! Probably wouldn't mind getting a bit of frosting in the tire lugs either lol!
It’s too bad manufacturers don’t make things like this now. Back in the day all manufactures made so many things and all were unique
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
As a Canadian, thank you for not considering Canada as a foreign country. P.S: Beautiful streamlined tractor :-)
as a Canadian i'm kinda offended by it. they have invaded us twice before you should know ;)
@@dosmundos3830 And both times we crushed them, but that's behind us. We're one friendly neighborhood now :D
Max Desmarais we were friendly toward each other back then at times too. it's just a matter of the law of averages to know they'll eventually be back. we won't be "crushing them" next time though ;)
Now every kind of part is chipped with serial number and to change it you must pay for service and you cannot put 'no legal' part instead. Clever.
Your people over 50. Thumbs up Videos to tell RUclips to show it to new viewers. Thumbs ups are very very important
Rip Sears
The 2010 sears craftsman garden tractor is the last one I’ll ever be able to order.the 2018 are complete trash and are now sold at Lowe’s home improvement centers.ive been a sears fan for many years but they are gone
the left front tire is missing a lugnut 1:41
wonder what it sold for new back then
😃
There wasn't anything you couldn't buy from Sesrs and Robuck back then
missing left front lug bolt.
I saw the missing lug nut too.
4:56 art heart mart bart fart
I passed this link on to my coworker before I finished the video, he doesn't like John Deere. Oops!
Lol pricey stickers anyone looking let me know i do them half price
