I read a blog by an old Japanese fan the other day, and he said that Awadama Fever was composed by Ueda-san, from The Mad Capsule Markets, who did the Gimme Choco too. Koba had first ordered a song like Awadama. But Gimme Choco was written first, and it became a breakthrough. I love it because it's bright and fun. I heard that the elite Metal Heads targeted it for attack, but that is ridiculous. I don't know much about music, but as for the drums, I guess it's drum and bass in the intro and interlude, but elsewhere Aoyama is playing these fine beats (I saw it on my DVD delo, Wembley). I love the choreography of the interlude. It's a mint-flavored time machine. Thank you from Japan.
I heard about that Ueda-san and Gimme Choco! info i think it was at DuMetal's blog, and totally get it, specially if we know that there are songs created way before, even years, they were released. For me the closer song to show their fierce and determination against all those critics could be "Road Of Resistance" or even "Karate", heck the lyrics might fooled us around a brief moment about talking all that positive energy and it just was a strong statement from them not going anywhere or leaving the metal scene. I like the sentence SuMetal almost always does during "Road Of Resistance" taunting and saying: _"Bring it on, guys!"_ \m/

Excellent assessment! Always keep in mind with BM, that their target audience was to expose more young girls to metal music and their early songs were written accordingly. That helps the perspective quite a bit. I've been going to shows since 77 and BM was the best show of my life since Rush Moving pictures in 81. BTW, keep the logo...it usually works.
I always thought this song was about chewing gum you did when you were a kid opens the door to memories of your youth. The gum itself is the "mint-flavored time machine".

Yep, nobody else but Babymetal can make up this shit and also make us smile and genuinely enjoy the pleasure it gives. I suppose many years from now, we'd still be in awe how the hell this weird and insane silliness of a project just worked. Great reaction and assessment.. I'll be following your journey down the Fox Hole.
Oh man, why you hit us with a question like that for those who didn't have the pleasure to actually go for a Babymetal live concert? That's a mean question :( I saw the *10 Babymetal Budokan* World Premiere exclusive livestream if that counts :P We'll get the DVD/BD next month anyway with even more complete set of songs for those who get "The One Complete Edition". I've been in a lot of huge live concerts and festivals, but we know BM mosh'sh pit are different than any other regular mosh pit, even the name was changed, so just like you said during this high energy and aggresive physical contact people help to each other if someone falls, so is a safe mosh pit and everyone stop if that happens, so yeah this a friendly clash of met. Finally, just so you know you got some inaccurated info in your box description about BabyMetal when you point out about the "role" thing with Su, Yui and Moa-Metal, we do know they're roles for sure but not because they talked themselves in 3rd person. Talking in third person, to resume, is a japanese culture thing, little girls and young women do as a polite and cute way of expressing or talking of themselves.
Seeing BABYMETAL live is an experience, I've seen them live several times through the years and every time it feels like you're transported to another galaxy. There's something about BABYMETAL that makes you feel like you're a part of them in a way. A BABYMETAL show is unique; The ladies, the Kami Band and the crowd really are THE ONE. I really hope they will tour again...
The song makes sense if you know the context. This was cowritten by the same pop-punk artist who cowrote 'Gimme Chocolate'. Japanese metal fans called Gimme Chocolate 'Bubble gum metal'. So they wrote a song about a bubble gum time machine. Just to show em. The pop punk artist that is. The girls don't write the songs and if they did they would never answer criticism so aggressively.
Hi man, this song is heavily blocked, good luck if you got it through, i guess this might be because you didn't pick the one with the Kami Band intro. This is a another fun song from their 2nd album, and i noticed mostly girls really love this one probably because of the more pop side, Yava! is another one. We know nothing really accurated about this song except what the lyrics said talking about some trippy bubblegum mint-flavored time machine dream, a "Saturday Night Fever" movie reference maybe? OTFGK. The only thing we know is when SuMetal was asked about if she was ever inside a such rare device, she said _"No"_ low-key looking that interviewer with some awkwardness, probably wonder if he was ok lol Anything else is just fan speculations, but hey! Good you know Babymetal Reactor Resources and you have a link to the Babymetal song list from Babymetal Reactor Resources. You can react to all Babymetal songs there. But if I may give you a suggestion, there are several songs that are the same with different concerts on the list and I will help you not to be confused about which concert to choose: - Catch Me If You Can, Metrock and Tokyo Dome are both the best concerts for this song which one you choose - Distortion (Legend Metal Galaxy) - Gimme Chocolate (White Fox Festival) - GJ! both are the best so it's up to you which one you choose - Headbanger (Legend Metal Galaxy) - Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Legend Metal Galaxy) - Megitsune (Legend M) - Meta Taro, these two are the best, it's up to you which one you choose - No Rain No Rainbow (Legend S) - Road Of Resistance (Legend Metal Galaxy) - Shine (Legend M) - Sis Anger (Tokyo Dome) - Syncopation (Big Fox Festival) - The ONE (Tokyo Dome) - YAVA (Big Fox Festival)
Great reaction, thanks! And excellent source video, by the way. Yeah, this song and the choreo is so much fun! We don't know for sure but I guess they have to train a lot to get this level of perfection. It's not only a song, it's all songs during a 95 minutes concert like this one. And they are very demanding with themselves. They can feel "frustrated" if for some reason they aren't able to give their 100% or engage the whole audience.
Shame you didn't get to watch an "Awadama Fever" with the Kami intro, or the one with great crowd response, but still it was really good :D This was at the Saitama Super Arena in 2015, in front of about 20k people!
Great reaction - and so pleased you'll be going through the Babymetal Reactor Resource list, this will be so much fun. "Awadama Fever" is just great fun. The story behind 'Awadama Fever' ... This has never been said by them at all, but yes some of us interpret how and why this song came about as being because they were criticised early on (possibly after 'Gimme Chocolate' went viral, possibly even before that) for producing "Bubblegum pop-metal with squeaky high voices". Next thing you know, a song about bubblegum - but not just any bubblegum, this bubblegum has special properties. Chew on this and it can take you wherever you dream of going, it's a mint flavoured time machine - step aboard and see how far this dream might go, the only limit is your imagination. They took everything the critics and haters said they didn't like and turned it all up to 11. Quite possibly the most polite middle finger to haters ever given ... or perhaps more likely (as they don't do middle fingers or take offence and every opinion matters to them) it is their "Criticise us and we'll take it - and then we will make something great of it" attitude. Yes I saw them live twice now, both times in London. I've seen some of the recognised great live bands over the years (including Led Zeppelin, Queen and many more) and been to some great concerts ... that last BABYMETAL concert I went to was my favourite of every concert I've ever been to - the one before - that ranks just below the time I saw Anthrax supported by Metal Church (who were a big favourite of mine at the time).
I love this song because its a great song for me, but also because the (fan presumed) message behind it. For me, they are saying "yea sure, we may have bubblegum pop and squeaky voices, but it's taken us to the world stage. Where you at?!" Lol!
Great reaction as always. Working through the reactor resource channel is a great idea, but make sure that you watch the off-RUclips clean version of the videos linked in the description of each video rather than the ones that are actually hosted on RUclips. Aside from the watermarks, some of them have audio distortion as well in order to get past copyright filters. I really like AJ Hartley's interpretation of this song; that it's meant to evoke a kind of idyllic moment of laying around daydreaming and chewing bubble gum. A lot of people interpret this song as a middle finger to critics. I disagree. They certainly are the types that will persist on their path despite criticism, but the kind of negativity and aggression that the "middle finger" idea implies doesn't seem to be a part of their DNA at all.
Hey Jim, another great reaction. This is a song about bubble gum. Now for the darker side. When Babymetal first came out they were attacked for being a gimmick, a stain on metal music, and being just "bubblegum music". This song references lots of bubbles (in lyrics and dance), gum and even features a mint flavored time machine. Some see this as nonsense lyrics, but many view this song as a slap in the face to those who derided them as being just fluff, and represents a bit of a suck my a*s moment. Some think this song is an invitation for their detractors to consider their future, and their past, as a 'total' and to judge them on that (hence, the time machine). If you are interested in a deep analysis of this song (I know, it's about bubblegum, but also much more), put about 30 minutes aside and watch AJ Hartley's analysis of this song. Hartley is a Shakespeare professor at an American university, fluent in Japanese and Babymetal fan. His interpretation of all the Babymetal songs discusses are very insightful. If Interested I have included a link to AJ Hartley's breakdown of Awadama Fever: (1) Reaction: BabyMetal: Awadama Fever. Old White Guy AJ Hartley's analysis #13 - RUclips
The lyrics to this might just be the cutest middle finger ever to the critics who said Babymetal wasn't metal and was just "bubblegum pop". Babymetal's "mint flavored time machine" takes us anywhere. But the ironic pop tropes start even before the first words with the drum beats which are the now almost banal "amen" drum break. It was also used in the opening theme to "The Powerpuff Girls"...who are also three cute girls who are strong and fierce. So really this is "bubblegum" to the nth degree.
Great reaction and analysis, man...at least, as much as there is to analyze about this song. ;) You got it right, it's pretty much just bubblegum metal. Fun as anything though, and great choreography. If you want a song that gives you a little more to dig into, I'd recommend Akatsuki, Syncopation, or the back-to-back extravaganza of 'Tales of the Destinies' and 'The One' at Tokyo Dome.
OK, a bit of background here: This song is a response to those critics who accused the band of producing "bubblegum" metal. The term bubblegum originates in the late 60's onwards to describe pop music aimed at the 'tween' market, as opposed to standard rock which was aimed at the late teens and early twenties.
wait a second! how is it possible that you still didn't check out another great Japanese metal band as Dir en Grey?! :O you should please check out the live version of "Vinushka". They're quite different to this but very good too :)
I read somewhere that this was BabyMetal giving the middle finger (in a cute way) to those critics who called their music “bubblegum metal”. If true - Brilliant.
Been to see a lot of Bands but the best was BabyMetal they are so much fun and your hyped from when they start to put there equipment out after the support band and when the lights go off and when they come back on BabyMetal are there the venue just explodeds the fans go crazy and it's like that to the end and yes if someone falls over other fans will protect and pick them up it's just a fun friendly atmosphere. Please react more babymetal live performance 🦊
wait a second! how is it possible that you still didn't check out another great Japanese metal band as Dir en Grey?! :O you should please check out the live version of "Vinushka". They're quite different to this but very good too :)
I read somewhere that this was BabyMetal giving the middle finger (in a cute way) to those critics who called their music “bubblegum metal”. If true - Brilliant.
1st time realising the chorus has English words 🤭
There are a lot of english words in almost all of their songs xD
@@BlackArr0w I’m starting to notice that more and more as I start reading lyrics to the songs
@@majorasm00gle the most surprising to me was realizing that the chorus of Pa Pa Ya has more English than Japanese
