Benard Gakuru, 33, has battled addiction for years to an extent he could hear voices of people calling him when drunk.
He says when he took his first alcohol sip years ago he felt like a champion, conquering all his boyhood fears. It's that first sip that dragged him into a hole that has taken him more than 13 years to dig himself out. It started getting worse for him when he first dropped out of campus during his third year because of his addiction. Free time away from school gave him even more time to engage in drinking sprees with his peers.
He recalls not being sober for a single day in a span of eight years. Alcoholism he says stole a lot from him, broke his relationships with his parents and extended family. He sold everything in his house including his clothes to feed this addiction.
His parents almost abandoned him out of despair when he started stealing from their own home. Benard says he only failed to sell his parents seats because he knew they would easily notice they are missing. The strained relationship he had with his dad broke him daily. He was given the last chance to life by his parents when they opened a 'Milk Bar' for him, but only a few months in, it closed down. One fine morning, three years ago a miracle happened in his life that he is yet to explain how it turned his life around.

Just try and talk to him to change..in 2015 I lost a workmate due to alcohol.he was so addicted to this cheap liquor, he slept never to wake up
My bro is just 19 still in high school and he's going through the same then kuongezea wizi juu yake. But I know God will change him one day

Misery loves company! People experiencing rough issues want you to stay in the same spot with them, they will even sponsor your habit that you all remain there. When you are in a pit, someone there with you who is comfortable will not want you to crawl out of that pit. A change of environment, a disconnection from certain people is critical to you rising from your hole or rising to your next appointed level. And when you rise up, lift up someone else who is struggling in the same pit you came from. To all those struggling to break addictions and harmful habits, may God grant you grace, strength and courage to fight, to keep living and to overcome.
Oh God our Lord, help all those who have such problems so that they can do away from adtics, please God heal them.
Your story reminds me of a friend so addicted he was burnt his parents house died in the process he was ashes that was what they buried may God help all addicts

I know how it feels for ur parents and u during that course of addiction 😏my dad was an addict but a miracle happened this year 2020 he quited!! After a fatal accident which was hi 3rd accident... Akiwa hosi we connected to the rehab facility whereby he used to get some detox injections without his knowledge, we only knew!! Alikuwa anatoroka hadi hosi just to sort his alcohol urge... We thank God for restoring his sanity, everything happens for a reason we rebuked the accident but the outcome was gracious, glory to God 🙏
