    Thank you so much for this video. I am planning to move from California and thought I would be going to France because I know it a bit and speak French as an intermediate.
    But inspite of my fears about the bureaucracy, somehow Italy is calling! Piedmont has everything I love.
    I want to live rurally (so I can garden and have 🐓 🐓 and other animals).
    I think I should rent first and take my time looking.
    What do you advise?
    Should I get a long stay visa first?
    Or just come for a month or two to decide, rent something and go home to move my stuff.(not much).
    I am not sure of the optimal sequence.

      I think the best way to do it is to find a town and an area that you really like. Then either come and stay for a few months or buy - but for me, it's location, location, location.

    This was a great video! I love the look of that region. I lived in Florence many years ago, and now the dream is to move to Italy in the next decade, possibly before our kids are grown and off doing their own thing. On our next trip we’ll absolutely have to check out Piedmont! Hello from Vermont 🙂

    Your videos are so helpful! I’d like to know more about the different climates in Piedmont based on that climate map. What does temperate Mediterranean mean? I’d also love to see a comparison of Piedmont with other northern regions such as Lombardy and Veneto. I have some experience traveling in northern Italy, but very little in Piedmont. It was a long time ago and I wonder if the local dialects are as strong as ever, especially in the smaller mountain towns.

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  3 года назад +3

      Thanks! The dialects still exist but perhaps not as prevalent as long ago. Mediterranean climate is -- a climate distinguished by warm, wet winters under prevailing westerly winds and calm, hot, dry summers, as is characteristic of the Mediterranean region and parts of California, Chile, South Africa, and south-western Australia.

    What a great find, thank you for these detailed videos about how to buy and move to Italy, also what the Piedmont is all about. You even answered my question about Tuscany. The one question I have is Internet access and speed, I know from this video that you work from home, so is the Internet accessible in most areas of Piedmont? Also I am assuming that when you say that it simple for Americans to buy in Italy that it would include Canadian and other nationalities. Thanks again!

      Hi Graham, Internet access is good, I'm online all day. And yes, anyone of any nationality or residence can buy a house in Italy.

    My wife and I fell in love with Italy in late-2019 and plan on returning soon. We want to move to either Europe or Hawaii in the next 5 - 10 years - Italy is our top choice in Europe. Our daughter will be in grade school by then, so I was wondering what your thoughts are on the schools for young children in Piedmont? Also, how is the language barrier - can you get by with English in a pinch (that first year of Italian immersion)?

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  Год назад +1

      Hi DJ. I don't have kids so I am not the best person to ask about schools, etc. Nearly every village has an elementary / grade school. But kids often have to go to nearby larger villages or cities for middle and high school. Private schools exist but are sparse outside of cities. Outside of cities not a lot of people speak English so I would say be prepared to get by on a little bit of Italian in a pinch...

    How’s the healthcare system? As an expat what kind of medical coverage can you get?

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  2 года назад +2

      I have had few experiences but the ones I had were good. If you are here on an Elective Residence Visa, you can join the national system but you need to pay according to you annual earnings.

    Thanks so much, great information about Piedmont. I still have dreams of moving there someday, for at least part of the year. Are there many small homes, cottages in this area?

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! There are smaller homes but not too many of the cottage type like you see in England. More country homes.

    This is wonderful.. thank you... how easy is it to make friends and is there community for expats? How about handwork, weaving, spinning, felting (just wondering about artisans that make things other than food). I really resonate with your videos...

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  3 года назад

      Thanks! We have had no problem making friends, both Italian and expat. I can't really speak to the handwork - you do see lots of handwork and crafts at the festivals which are abundant throughout the summer.

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  Год назад +3

      This is an oft-asked question. I work online and am on zoom calls for many hours a day and I have no problems. A few years ago my small village was one of the first to receive fiber optics. Now there is a big program in Italy to install and expand fiber optics in many regions. But even before fiber optics, i rarely had connectivity problems.

    What is the dialect(s) in Piedmont, Italy? I was once told a while back that the dialects have changed over time.? I hope to talk with you soon! In hopes of moving to a peaceful place with my family. I have two young boys 4 and 5. I will more than likely homeschool them til they are immersed in the language. If you know anything about the school system there in Piedmont, maybe you can elaborate some on that topic? Thank you so much for all your videos!

    • @housefindersnorthernitaly
      @housefindersnorthernitaly  3 года назад +2

      Thank you! It is mostly only the older generation who still speaks the dialect - Piemontese. Younger people speak widespread Italian. I do not know anything about the school system...

      I found an Au Pair agency that has private live in tutors that are from the united states! Just thought I inform you Incase others would be wondering abt what to do for little ones.

    I have recently retired and plan to move to Italy , early next year and hopefully find a place in the Piedmont region . My father was an Italian citizen born in a small town near Treviso . My question is do you know anyone who can help with the paperwork to become an Italian citizen?

      Thanks for writing but citizenship thru lineage is a very involved process. Best to find a lawyer or agency who specializes in it.
