So, fun fact about the sandygast that were melting in the rain, and any other pokemon that have environmental effects that happen to them (such as exploding voltorb or Hoppip flying away in the wind), shinies won't do that. They're immune, just the same way that they're immune from being murdered ala Let's Go Mode. So, Mikey could've just stayed put when it started raining, and gotten his shiny to spawn without even moving.

I just can't imagine this level of shiny luck. Probably 75% of my sandwiches do not result in a shiny, even with an outbreak and the shiny charm.
