Just so everyone is aware, apps and games can be patched or encoded during development to use native Dolby Atmos. This information comes from a PS5 audio engineer.
Thanks for explaining this, I didn't even realize there was a list of games that support 3D audio. I just Subbed and dropped a like since this was the first video i clicked on. Well Done
IT IS NOT Dolby Atmos, technically, it is simply translating the Tempest 3D Audio objects into a Dolby Atmos container. The format being used is Dolby Atmos PCM though a MAT conversion.
Technically, you’re correct. However, the consumer doesn’t care about it whether it’s the Tempest engine placed into a Dolby Atmos renderer. As long as it works, you won’t hear anyone complaining.
Joe I configure my PS5 audio settings to PCM. While my PS5’s audio and video is routed to my processor. I’m using Auro-3D audio format where my ALL my speakers are passing audio traffic. My speakers are from Klispsch, my amplifiers are from monolith and processor is from Arcam AV 41
I just downloaded the update and was so happy but I have no idea why, but the sound is so distorted like a robot…. I am using a Samsung q90r 7.1.4 soundbar which is awesome for atmos … Any idea how to fix this ??
This is gonna be so good for people who also use the PS5 as a Movie/Game system the only problem is the lack of Vision unless you want to invest in a Panasonic UB820, but even then this makes me so happy for many people.
Has anyone tested this? I feel like on my 7.1.2 system this Atmos update makes dialogue come from front tower speakers as well as the center channel which doesn’t sound right to me. It makes it echo slightly.
regarding the desire for watching Netflix with Dolby atmos on the PS5, don't bother. testing is shown that the ps5 still uses a crap ton of power, even just for basic app streaming in comparison to something like a Chromecast or your TV's built-in apps
This finally made me go from 5.1 to a 5.1.2 system this weekend and upgrade my 2.0 amp due to LG’s stupid way of handling Atmos. My Wallet is now hurting 😂 thanks Sony.
Question: So the Dolby Atmos would not take advantage of expensive designed headset that supoorts Atmos such as Steelseries Arctis Nova 7P for PS5? I mean I am still happy with this feature coming out but I usually prefer with headset since I do gaming at night and could wake up someone at home.
Right now this will not affect headsets in any way. It's still using Sony's Tempest engine for headsets and headphones. This update is basically converting Tempest 3D Audio to Dolby Atmos for the HDMI output, allowing your surround system to benefit from 3D audio, with dedicated height speakers. Before, all of this data was lost, and home theater gaming didn't sound as good on PS5 as it does on Xbox.
If you have an Atmos receiver or compatible TV, you could probably plug directly into those devices and get Atmos through headphones, though I dont see how it would be any different from the Tempest 3D audio.
hi would astro a50x benefit from this update. as you said in that long video of a50x months ago,a50x have to choose between Tempest and a stereo one. Now since ps5 deploy this Dolby Atoms support, which is a tempest translation in fact, will a50x support spatial sound in hdmi as Xbox do, will you please tell me any result about this,I am really concerned about this😢

Do I use the Liner PCM, Dolby, DTS setting in the drop down he showed in the video? I currently use DTS, but it looks like that option is just for everything but the headset. Is that correct? If not, what option is best for gaming? Thanks
I'm pretty sure you just use Linear PCM if you're just using the 3D audio that's native to the PS5. Using DTS and Dolby I think are for devices that would use it from HDMI, like a surround sound system or Astro a40s
@@VisForVindetta thanks for the suggestion. I have been playing with the Dolby and DTS and getting more and more frustrated with how difficult the sound is. I will try this option tonight. Thanks again
@@dbronco2032 as far as I know Linear PCM is uncompressed audio (I'm not an audiophile but I've heard that's better) and it's better for the 3D audio engine native to PS5 because Dolby and DTS needs supported devices to function properly, which is only the case if you have the PS5 running it's audio through a surround sound system or to a HDMI audio extractor, rather than USB.

Is this even necessary? Reason I say that is because it’s already good enough audio.
