I’m a big Deadhead - earlier tonight I listened to the entire second set of Cornell 5/8/77. I got Bauhaus’ “Mask” as an album tonight from the 1001 Albums Generator website. First five songs I was working on things around the house, it was mostly background music in my headphones, then as soon as I heard the bass line it grabbed my full attention. It sounds like something Phil Lesh would’ve laid down on a “Dancing in the Streets” from a late 70’s show!
80's bass & drum work truly astounding and super tight. Then they threw those awesome shimmering guitar attacks and sweeping hard synth sounds over it, and topped it off with disaffected vocals. Most genius era of music ever.
Bauhaus are fantastic as they were 30 years ago ! It is becoming more difficult to find bands that have the imagination and confidence that could not compete with the highest level of lyrics from Bauhaus today
I love them after all these years, goth then still am at 55. Pure goth brilliant sophistication. Im goth till the day i die, brilliant funeral song. God bless all you beautiful goths world wide. Xx 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 xx
Saw Peter Murphy live in late '80's in Atlanta. I was near the stage. Amazing show. He was a mental guru, with the lyrics, so to speak, in college days, with all the idiots around. Lol. I wish I could have seen Love and Rockets or Tones on Tail, too. 🎶🎉
This was the very first song I had ever heard by Bauhaus, when I was in 7th grade. I never would have guessed how big of a part Bauhaus would play in my life later on.
Was well into them in my mid teens (59yrs old now)saw them many times. If you have not heard of or tried the Virgin Prunes, I suggest you give them a go. From the same era and totally unique...one of the best live bands ever.
And he spoke of pastures green I was never told why Each journey lasts an age And my throat feels dry It must be the lesson Hidden deep inside It must be the lesson So roll the tide So I began the crossing My throat burned dry Searching for Satori The kick in the eye I am the end of reproduction Given no direction Every care is taken In my rejection Kick in the eye Kick in the eye Kick in the eye Kick in the eye Every care is taken With my rejection And my abduction To my addiction Every care is taken With my protection And my abduction From my addiction Kick in the eye Kick in the eye Kick in the eye Kick in the eye
I remember when this track was released in March 1981. Went to see them a couple of times in the 80’s. When Murphy , Ash, J and Haskins were the original members.
Just discovered this band a few days ago and they are all I want to listen to.
A black person who likes Bauhaus. I thought I was the only one.😂
@@psychedelicpayroll5412 lol you are def not :)
@@Agothygoth Yeah I am. I am just a light skin one who has the skin color of my dad who’s mixed. My mom is black. I have hair like her though.
Check out love and rockets 🚀
Welcome to a lifetime full of goth music
I’m 28 and just discovered this music. Life will never be the same.
I'm loving this channel called In Depth Music. Turns out a surprising amount of this stuff is still being made in Eastern Europe.
Look up “Kick in the Eye 2”. Way better version. The album is “Mask”. You’ll love it.
I'm nearly 60; when this came out, I had a fake ID, and would go to a wonderfully grimy "punk" club in Chicago and dance - alone - in "the pit".
This was a massive dance floor filler at the Goth clubs I used
to frequent, back in the early 1980s. Great stuff.
It sounds magical.
Realised there is something missing in my life because i never went to a goth disco !
Sing this corrosion to me!!
Who didn't have a Bauhaus album or cassette in the '80's. 🎶
awesome bassline that made me buy a bass guitar 30 years ago. One of the first things I learned to play. Classic track.
Great bass line!
+Ultra Veganista - agreed ... my top bass line to jam to ... that and Play for Today

this song proves that Bauhaus were much more than the Godfathers of Goth...
MGTOW

This is the type of music my friends would listen in rhe 80's - and still today. I love it! Scott
+ Scott rivard : The same here
this is my evidence for the statement "they were more than just goths"
Tremendous song by Bauhaus. Pete Murphy - what a groovy mover!

Dark and funky
+Brian Smith all we ever wanted was dark funk
Brian Smith dark + funk = dunk

Gunk (aka Gothic Funk)!!!
So what would you call "Harry"? Skathic?
:)
oooo you got it my friend
Get down!
I didn't know I needed this genre till now
Good one
David J's bass lines are genius and make you feel so much like dancing!
That bass is drilling my brain, I could listen to this song all day without getting bored.
In those days goths were a funky bunch!
There was more funk in UK post-punk than funk itself. Great basslines from Siouxsie, Bauhaus, The Cure, Joy Division, Gang of Four etc etc
yeah and Killing Joke
nervous system
all legendary bands you just named there bud
Don't forget The Pop Group and P.I.L
Plus more obscure groups, such as Getting the Fear / Into a Circle, not to mention early Cult, Theatre of Hate and many more... .
My fav trax from Bauhaus.... oh oh KIck in the EYE!
First band I ever saw live at Manchester apollo back in June 1983 those were the days.
It's like a weird blend of goth, pop, rock and funk but I bloody love this song.
I LOVE the bassline in this tune
This was the very first song I had ever heard by Bauhaus, when I was in 7th grade. I never would have guessed how big of a part Bauhaus would play in my life later on.

astonishing band!!! 💪
Back in the days, I was the only one pumping to that song in the gym. Oh, good old days...
Love this track.Takes me back to The Gum Club nights in the eighties in Blackburn.
Genius beyond belief. One of my other FV Bauhaus tracks 'Kick In The Eye' ... Absolutely tantalizing bass, drums and dance energy
Great song, cool video. Thank you for sharing.
LOVE IT MISS THE 80 S
I know. I'm trapped in the '80's.
And he spoke of pastures green
I was never told why
Each journey lasts an age
And my throat feels dry
It must be the lesson
Hidden deep inside
It must be the lesson
So roll the tide
So I began the crossing
My throat burned dry
Searching for Satori
The kick in the eye
I am the end of reproduction
Given no direction
Every care is taken
In my rejection
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Every care is taken
With my rejection
And my abduction
To my addiction
Every care is taken
With my protection
And my abduction
From my addiction
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Kick in the eye
Obrigado!!!

You have gone from being a human, to a bat?
Listened to this in 1990, seen them in concert 2 or 3 years later in Detroit. Yeah, there is that.
I remember when this track was released in March 1981. Went to see them a couple of times in the 80’s. When Murphy , Ash, J and Haskins were the original members.

Mask is a great album, from 1981.
Great Band ......Great Band
Un Clasico de las fiestas por alla en los 90 tiempos q no volveran no se compara con la basura de musical de ahora
He kind of sounds like a meshing of Bowie and Iggy Pop. Never noticed this before.
Not coincidental. Those were his influences.
The baseline is iconic
Great
my favorite too
The best song.
This is so reminiscent of 80'S punk bands.
