*Introducing Gearshift! If I’m being honest, it might be one of my personal favorite quirks.* *Changing the speed and/or trajectory of a moving object or attack is just a really out-of-the-box concept for something like an attack, and while it would already be extremely useful in a fight or rescue situation, in this case, Shigaraki, it’s also super useful when applied to other quirks here! So it might be one of the best tools for beating and saving Shigaraki!* Also, I’m still super happy that Lemillion was here since things would have definitely gotten more out of hand with One for All. At least, more than they did 😅
Gearshift essentially turns Deku into a speedster, but with a twist being that it ignores the law of inertia allowing Deku to stop almost instantly, overdrive is the ultimate of Gearshift, maximizing the speed at which Deku moves and stacking up the raw power of OFA. Now the reason the Second said to finish in 5 minutes is becuz of the drawback of using Gearshift. The longer Deku uses it, the more he is unable to recover, slowly depriving him of oxygen, which is why you notice him hyperventilating after landing a solid hit at the end of the episode.
(This comment has no spoilers it references past episodes this is mainly critical thinking) 22:31 I think it’s intentional, spinners goal is to get Kurogiri to wake up, so AFO gave him a quirk or probably multiple (I’m guessing here) quirks to get him. My hypothesis is that the more rogue quirks one has no matter how useful they are in battle, the more insane they become, the reason dekus able to handle the quirks and use them to his advantage is because One For all is holding them together and not straying into insanity and the fact the other quirks work together to get things done. Another reason is because most of the Nomu act brainless as if the quirks are just being stored while their consciousness is being dwindled and their true self is dying out while the quirk remains and keep in mind the smarter Nomu’s only repeat their desires and analyze the opponent at hand, and it seems Spinners logic and self awareness is nonexistent if anything he resembles how Stain acted at his final moments up to the brim of Mania
So here’s how Horikoshi broke the laws of inertia. I want to be concrete about it but I think it’s just as simple as looking at Newton’s 1st law. An object will stay in motion or at rest unless acted on it by a force. Which is constantly with gravity, wind resistance, and other factors. Deku bypasses that by hitting him with Faux 100 which we saw sends Shigaraki FLYING, and he STAYED in place until Deku LET the proper impact occur. Deku can accelerate himself to 120% which is pretty much free hysterical strength for 5 minutes combining with Fa Jin charging the right moves, AND halt his movement without any slowing down, whiplash, or altering direction. This is BUSTED. And by virtue of MANY combinations of quirks, Deku IS stronger than Season 1 All-Might. Granted OFA is designed to face AFO ALL quirks like healthy All-Might did to healthy AFO so there’s a LOT of missing components to this fight too. Chief among them for me is I see SEVERAL images with only 7 of the 8 vestiges present. And All-Might doesn’t appear to be completely here. AFO probably means that if Spinner gets to Kurogiri as intended, they can teleport to AFO and AFO can get to Shigaraki (anime only, so its my assumption)
15:37 "This fist can even change the way the world works" is an odd choice of words. The manga translates it as "warping the very laws of reality," which is way more blatant. When Deku uses the Top Gear string of punches, Mirio notes that he only heard the sound of the impacts AFTER Shigaraki is tossed upwards, meaning that all four punches were thrown fast enough to outpace the sound of the first punch making contact. There's another key thing they left out. The Detroit Smash Deku uses right afterwards? He hits him with the punch *five times* in rapid succession, before he experiences the recoil of the first one. The SMASH graphics are literally stacked on top of each other in the manga. The best way to think of these moves is like a jackhammer... except instead of there being a proper wind up, Deku is essentially throwing one-inch punches so quickly that it feels like they're all happening simultaneously.
So this is all just speculation on my part: My only guess as to what the ending part with AFO yapping and it panning over to Spinner was about is that he’s supposed to retrieve Kurogiri, so maybe AFO is banking on Spinner getting to him to make a portal to get AFO out of the coffin or just out of there in general But idk how Kurogiri’s quirk exactly works, maybe he can’t open a portal if he doesn’t know the location, idk
