That's what I love about MHA...the heroes aren't perfect goodie two shoes and the villains aren't completely evil. Every character have some nuances about them that makes them more realistic even though we all know we're watching fiction
So, fun fact: I had a completely different understanding about Endeavor as a character until this part of the story. See, during Todoroki's flashback, we see Endeavor explain to Shoto "She tried to hurt you, so I put her in a hospital." I had interpreted that not as "She's not well, so we're getting her some help," but as "You're an important tool for my ambition of surpassing All Might, and she's a proven risk-factor to the mission. I have removed that risk-factor from the equation." Because of anecdotes from Inasa and Stain, and this interpretation, and endeavor's selfish demeanor as a hero, I had been viewing Endeavor as a competitive anti-hero with semi-villainous traits who, by watching All Might from the #2 position, learned to desire to be something more, and truly started to confront these questions after the Kamina incident, once he was now in the #1 spot. It wasn't until we learn about the flowers that I realized I had been slightly misinterpreting his character arc, and I think part of that ambiguity is what made him such a popular character. Both our views were probably valid interpretations until this clarification.
Endeavour is such a good character. A flawed piece of shit, yes. But he’s trying. He’s what Bakugou would be if he never got his reality checks, while also being an entirely different character for Shoto. It’s super well done and I’m glad the family isn’t forgiving him and he’s not expecting it
Endeavor has slowly been trying to redeem himself and this moment and how it came together referencing that was excellent. Everyone was watching him, it's so good.
I cannot agree with the part of "Endevor had good intentions" the guy did everything with the selfish reason of surpassing all might. He didn't train his kid so that he would be better, he did that for his ego. At this point if he wanted to confront his past he should've come clean about it, what he did was child abuse and he should've been in prison for it, heroes should not be above the law. If he really wanted to atone he should have admitted everything to the press and pay for his crimes
The thing about your first point is: it's basically every parent's nature to do that. Our kids are how we keep our presence in this world way beyond our physical ability to keep staying here. Endeavor's mind is set on "If I won't be able to surpass All Might, I will make sure my child does that in my place" the same way your average parent would think "If I can't rise above this rotten system I will make sure my child does that in my place", through higher level education, through providing opportunities that in their own experience they didn't have so that their kid will make it where they failed. But what do you do when the "economy" that allows you to rise above the level of your predecessors isn't in education and opportunity, but in genetics? That's what happened with Endeavor, pushed to an extreme Now, his actual methods were awful in itself, no mistake there, but at his core he is basically any father ever when he pushes his desires for the future of his bloodline too far, but nobody can really say that his intentions were bad because, at the end of the day, even if there's ego behind that, having a hero that is even better than All Might is in itself a pretty positive thing to have in the world regardless of how satisfying you feel being that hero

@@pj_spirit Avoiding manga spoilers, as of right now, his only act of atonement that he isn't forced into doing is letting his family heal without him by buying the house. Yes, he doesn't have any manual or instructions on what to do, but his arc takes up a good chunk of the story and that’s really it. His arc mostly consists of him talking about how sorry he is without much action to show for it unfortunately. The fact that he's still perfectly content with keeping his job and earnings without any question is definitely weird enough, but I would excuse this a bit more if he atones a lot after the Toya reveal in season 6, but unfortunately, he ends up doing the polar opposite, which just makes his lack of action before season 6 feel all the more cheap imo.
@@You-Tube-n5k It's a bit of a hard thing to grasp with the fact that it takes a lot longer to write a story than the amount of time that passes within the story, but the entire manga takes place in like 1 or 2 years. Idk why people are expecting him to have massive development and all these acts of atonement in that short span. People never heal family trauma and recover from being an abuser that quickly, he is on the way but stuff just takes time
I think the most important part of Endeavor's character arc is realising just how much his family means to him, and that's highlighted by his change in perspective about being Number 1. Originally, it was a selfish, egotistical goal that consumed him. Now, all he wants is for his family to respect him as a father and husband again, and being the greatest hero alive is the only way he knows how to show his dedication. Being Number 1 isn't even really the goal anymore - it's just a means to an end.
For me, what makes Endeavor a tragic character even before all of these and All Might was still active... Is the fact that Endeavor never even knew that he WAS indeed the strongest hero around. He was fighting a lost rivalry against All Might and he was the exception on quirks and strength with One for All, a quirk that took hundreds of years and multiple generations to build. Never gave up, and pushed his natural-born quirk to its utmost limit to the point that it drove him to insanity... Also, “Bioengineered human... Nomu. You, who have been created to have multiple Quirks-- who are obsessed with strength-- Bioengineered human... You... Are me... From the past... Or another future...” I just can't control my tears on this part. 😭😭😭
True fact: I only have one piece of art in my office, and it is a framed print of the manga panel of Endeavor holding his fist up. It’s such a powerful image and message. Best season of MHA, bar none.
Endeavor gets a lot of development and attention from this season on, along with information we're given that recontextualizes some aspects of his actions, I won't spoil anything, but I will say it changed how I viewed what he's done
@@You-Tube-n5k hard disagree, Endeavour remains a consistently good character, to the point where his story is really the only reason I still pay attention.
Yeah when that scene happened with Endeavor it was the final page of the chapter and a huge cliff hanger. It's also something that Endeavor got hit in the same eye Shoto did.

I highly recommend rewatching this episode in the English dub on your own time, Endeavor's VA, Patrick Sietz, nails every bit of this fight and Endeavor's absolute determination
Also in the dub, the VA for Natsu in Fairy Tail saw the resemblance between Natsu and the pink haired boy in MHA and asked if he could voice that character xD
Did you notice that Endeavor silouette here simbolizes the phoenix? His old life has ended and now its time for his rebirth, as a new different kind of hero.
Back when these chapters were being published I thought "Damn I hope Endeavor has a great start as new Number One Hero. He MUST win this fight and stand up just like All Might after Kamino to show everyone that there is hope for the future!" Then this chapter cam out and just like that my wish was granted ahahah
This really takes me back to the time when I actually liked Enji (Endeavor) as a character. He showed so much promise to have a really good character arc. Oh well, at least this episode is still really good all things considered.
Man. Watching reactions to this episode always makes me feel like a bad person, honestly. Because pretty much everyone who watches it gets emotional or starts crying, but I just didn't for some reason. Like, at all. And it's weird because I'm usually the type to get really emotional during something like this
it could be a timing thing tbh or a lot of other different factors that affect the viewing experience going in, you're not a bad person. you can only watch something for the first time once
You could just not like Endeavor or not forgive him enough to root for him and that's cool, since that's the entire point of his character. He exists so that we could totally dissect what being a good hero/bad parent is.
There is no way she was involuntarily committed, that would have drawn a huge amount of attention to what happened. What most likely happened is they both agreed for her to enter voluntary commitment out of shame, to save face, and to avoid the very serious legal consequences of her attack on Shoto.
Honestly if someone still hates Endeavor after this episode and considering how much he’s trying to change himself because of his past you petty as hell fr fr
If you think about it; endeavor's no different from overhaul, both have their intentions (overhaul's did seem to be less selfish though), both methods caused extreme child abuse and trauma. The only difference is endeavor realised how much he fucked up, same could go for overhaul due to the "can't revive my father" thing, but it was already too late.
Yeah after becoming number 1 and having his chat with All Might Endeavor really is trying to make amends. Sadly you can tell Natsuo is still the holdout while everyone else is willing albeit cautiously to give him a chance.

Choosing endeavor over all might or Deku as a hero or as a person is mental lol. If you think he’s a better character then that’s your opinion but he absolutely is not a better person nor hero then those two.
Yeah, this is my favourite episode in this whole show. I genuinely don't understand why people dislike s4 just because it had a few slice of life episodes.
I'd say this is about where I started to be cool with Endeavor as a character. Still was resistant to liking him, but he has shown change, he has improved, and he most certainly earns his tights.
The nomu wanted power and he even became this warped version of himself to get it. You can tell the person new cause it says "let me test my new power". Endeavor also wanted power, not to be number one in ranking but to be number 1 in strenght and he also did whatever it took, in this case he tried to create a "natural" nomu, mixing quirks with his wife to have a "perfect being". How is that stretching?
@@GabrielRojasAhumada I can’t really see how that isn’t a stretch. “My obsession with becoming the number one hero is like this creature being programmed to fight a strong opponent.” Even with the natural nomu thing, that just means that he treated his family like the nomu, which doesn’t add to the comparison of him being like the nomu itself. It falls apart really easily.
@MinoruMinetaGrapeJuice The Nomu was obsessed with the best quirks and with being the strongest which is exactly what Endeavor only cared about before which is why he says the Nomu is like him from the past
@MinoruMinetaGrapeJuice You don't need the context, they both only cared about being the strongest and hurt others to do so. They both wanted to beat the strongest person and they didn't care about anything else.
Oh, I never realized that my favourite scene that came out of this fight was actually in season 5. Well I guess I'll wait until the next episode to comment.

Wtf you talking about? Stop dumping your daddy issues on the rest of us. Endeavour wanted to be the strongest and that blinded him. This fiery passion made him do whatever it took. And let's be honest his wife didn't put much on her part. Further on they explain further that she also was a major part of why the family fell apart. Endeavour beat shoto to train him but of course was blinded. And beat his wife out of rage that if you have never been angry you can't know how it is. And the mom was a big part of why that big thing that changed the family happend so it makes sense he'd be angry with her. That is not the way but anger it a powerful emotion.
Wow, you are projecting a lot arent you ? First of all, its not what she said... you are putting words into her mouth to justify being cruel towards her yourself. Secondly, i feel sorry for YOU because this is a fucking fictional story... DO NOT CONFLATE IT WITH REAL LIFE!
Some people felt S4 dragged a bit, or they weren't super interested in the Yazuza arc. And I totally understand, but not reaching the final 2 episodes of the season is a damned shame. They're so awesome.
IMO the creator seems to have added a nod to another shonen protag. The pink haired boy with the yellow scarf looks a lot like nasty dragoneel from Fairytail. He is also a fire user so he would totally simp for endevor.
Yep. Ignore all the character development and the explanations that happend from here until the end of the series. Yep just ignore it in order to validate your daddy issues yep
A character doesn't need to be a good person to be liked as a character, and in any anime and series people trying to turn over a new leaf and do better are entertaining and common, be it villains or morally gray characters.
Tbf, a character can be really well-written while still being a bad person. Unfortunately this only semi-applies to Enji since his writing is pretty lackluster, but I still think he could have had a great arc.
Man, I really didn't like Endeavor. Outside of what we saw of Shoto's backstory painting him as a monster, he was just an asshole who stood against all the main characters just because of his dumb ego, plus his powers were boring and generic and his design was just kind of meh This is the episode that made Endeavor my favorite character

@@You-Tube-n5k Every other time he’s on screen he’s trying. He doesn’t know how to fix it. There isn’t a manual to this and it’s not like his family gives him step by step instructions because they don’t have an obligation to. What would you do in his situation cuz it’s not like he sits around doing nothing about it
@@pj_spirit Avoiding manga spoilers, as of right now, his only act of atonement that he isn't forced into doing is letting his family heal without him by buying the house.
@@You-Tube-n5k You didn't pay much attention then.
People never heal family trauma and recover from being an abuser that quickly, he is on the way but stuff just takes time
The author confirmed that this is the strongest nomu we have met so far.
I **fucking love** that visual of Endeavor trying to build the bridge with rocks and broken planks.
Also,
“Bioengineered human... Nomu.
You, who have been created to have multiple Quirks-- who are obsessed with strength-- Bioengineered human... You... Are me... From the past... Or another future...”
I just can't control my tears on this part. 😭😭😭
True fact: I only have one piece of art in my office, and it is a framed print of the manga panel of Endeavor holding his fist up. It’s such a powerful image and message. Best season of MHA, bar none.
On Endeavor's behavior I can only remember that old saying, "The path to hell is paved with good intentions."
Except they weren’t good, they were petty and selfish
Endeavor gets a lot of development and attention from this season on, along with information we're given that recontextualizes some aspects of his actions, I won't spoil anything, but I will say it changed how I viewed what he's done
Well, he gets some this season, a bit next season, and then he just stops being a good character after that.
@@You-Tube-n5k hard disagree, Endeavour remains a consistently good character, to the point where his story is really the only reason I still pay attention.
@@Jo_youwhatmate Fair enough if you disagree, he's easily the most overrated character in the series though imo
Love to see Endeavor starting toward his redemption
Yeah when that scene happened with Endeavor it was the final page of the chapter and a huge cliff hanger.
It's also something that Endeavor got hit in the same eye Shoto did.
00:00 Bro I didn't even realize that was Natsuo, even though I know he's supposed to be right there because of the line
22:50 the dog hehe
or a pack
Hawks and Endeavor together is just
Aaa I have feelings.
Imagine being so strong that a second of muscle spasm releases a shockwave that breaks your windows...
The voice acting is like, the most consistently good part of Enji’s character lol
Did you notice that Endeavor silouette here simbolizes the phoenix? His old life has ended and now its time for his rebirth, as a new different kind of hero.
Back when these chapters were being published I thought "Damn I hope Endeavor has a great start as new Number One Hero. He MUST win this fight and stand up just like All Might after Kamino to show everyone that there is hope for the future!"
Then this chapter cam out and just like that my wish was granted ahahah
I respect people who watch the sub, but imo the dub especially for this episode is spine chilling
No it's not bro. Quit lying. The dub is GARBAGE
This episode made Endeavor my favorite character
Fighting that Nomu was quite the Endeavor.
This really takes me back to the time when I actually liked Enji (Endeavor) as a character. He showed so much promise to have a really good character arc. Oh well, at least this episode is still really good all things considered.
Best reaction channel… change my mind
No need king🗿
Tbh, I used to get emotional, now I’m just kind of disappointed when I look back on it tbh
Ikr same, I just....it's that I feel bad for Endeavor but at the same time...I don't know how to express my feelings
Me saying, this is hype, damn, nice he is back, lets go showing my range of emotions
You could just not like Endeavor or not forgive him enough to root for him and that's cool, since that's the entire point of his character. He exists so that we could totally dissect what being a good hero/bad parent is.
bro almost did a Pell
This is one of my favorite fights in MHA. It's not All Might vs All for One, but damn it's good.
There is no way she was involuntarily committed, that would have drawn a huge amount of attention to what happened. What most likely happened is they both agreed for her to enter voluntary commitment out of shame, to save face, and to avoid the very serious legal consequences of her attack on Shoto.
Alicia mixing up One for All and All for One, oopsie (starting with One - the hero | starting with All - the villain)
Inside you there are 9 dogs.
That's too many dogs
Honestly if someone still hates Endeavor after this episode and considering how much he’s trying to change himself because of his past you petty as hell fr fr
Nono, those people have daddy issues lol.
If his writing afterwards was good I would agree.
Alicia at the beginning of the series: I'm gonna call him flame boy!
Then completely forgets about it (thank God)
you realise what a masterpiece of a character Endeavor is cause they got me routing for a guy who abused his wife and his children
Fun fact: Hawks is the equivalent of Deku for Endeavor, as Hawks has been his biggest fan since childhood.
Oh my god, this episode had me crying too - it hits so hard!
Alicia during the sports festival:" i hate this rat b@stard, i hate him, i hate him"
Also alicia:" endeavor😭 lets go😭"
When a character makes you hate him and now love him you know thats a good character😁
lets be honest
we all were all w8ing for this episode ever since Alicia saw Endeavor for the first time
we all knew how Alicia would react to this
and none of us got it wrong, except maybe how strongly she would do so xD
Aliciaxlife is a good bean and diserves lots of hugs
I love flawed characters like endeavor and the character development
We meet the 2nd natsu related to endeavour 😂
Eri and Endeavor are why this is my favorite season
You know, I don't really remember the first half of season 5, but the second half though is gonna be great with the much needed development of certain characters. People who know know
Much like Shoto, Alicia runs hot and cold 😂
Endeavor is the best character even with this peak, some mha fanbase will still not understand, because they the worst fanbase, this what real hero like a man who is not perfect but trying to make all thing better and protecting people, i choose him over all might/deku any day for my hero
Choosing endeavor over all might or Deku as a hero or as a person is mental lol. If you think he’s a better character then that’s your opinion but he absolutely is not a better person nor hero then those two.
From this time onwardz endeavor was my favorite character
Yeah, this is my favourite episode in this whole show.
I genuinely don't understand why people dislike s4 just because it had a few slice of life episodes.
I'd say this is about where I started to be cool with Endeavor as a character. Still was resistant to liking him, but he has shown change, he has improved, and he most certainly earns his tights.
Are we sure Endeavor doesn’t have elasticity powers? Because him comparing himself to that nomu has to be the biggest stretch I’ve ever seen.
@@Bibideybobedy That works, but it’s only cause we’re taking out like, all of the context behind them.
@MinoruMinetaGrapeJuice You don't need the context, they both only cared about being the strongest and hurt others to do so. They both wanted to beat the strongest person and they didn't care about anything else.
And thats why Endeavor is objectively the best character in mha.
And peepo say THIS is overrated 😢
I will always admire Endeavors hero skills but I don’t think I can like him as anything involving family even if he is trying hard to be better😅
Oh, I never realized that my favourite scene that came out of this fight was actually in season 5. Well I guess I'll wait until the next episode to comment.
"It's okay that Endeavour beats his wife and children. He didn't have bad intentions! It's just that his ego is so big it destroys everyone around him!" *Hugs you* I'm so sorry about whatever happened to you growing up. I hope you are getting the help you need as an adult!
Please don't infantilize her because you don't agree with her take on the situation. It comes across as incredibly arrogant and rude.
What's so wrong about finding a character compelling while also acknowledging that they're highly flawed?
stop dumping your trauma on other people lol, most ppl dont care.
Still one of my favorite anime episodes ever
Some people felt S4 dragged a bit, or they weren't super interested in the Yazuza arc. And I totally understand, but not reaching the final 2 episodes of the season is a damned shame. They're so awesome.
Hate on Endeavor as much as you want but this episode cemented him as my favorite character from the series.
Season 5 is gonna be (emotionally) fun
I cried too hard
and got so far...
Deku definitely got the dog in him. In fact he's probably got like 7 or 8 in 'im.
IMO the creator seems to have added a nod to another shonen protag. The pink haired boy with the yellow scarf looks a lot like nasty dragoneel from Fairytail. He is also a fire user so he would totally simp for endevor.
Also those were the users of one for all, not all for one hehe
Let me tell you, Deku has the DOG in him.
Hands down best episode
I wonder if she is going to watch the movies at some point
This is such a good episode.
Lezzz go the first movie is next! Can't wait
I’m just here to see Alicia cry
I reccomend watching "The Saga of Tanya the Evil" :3
4:27 Canadian still too strong lol
I'm so excited to see how you react to the next season
14:43 Tell me he doesn't look like Natsu Dragneel?
In the dub, the VA for Natsu voiced that person because he saw the similarities and asked to voice them xD
Man, I can’t wait until you get to the latest season 6.
Lets gooooo! End of season 4
Season 5 here we are coming:D
We like Endeavor now? Wasn't he an abusive POS that made his wife mentally ill and treated his first 4 children as expendable?
Well, the older i get the more i like villain characters. So, yeah. I like him.

too wholesome tbh, i would have recommended promised neverland or erased if you want kids in your shows
Best episode to this day!!
The way you pronounce nomus😂
FLAME ON!
Day 72 of asking Alicia to play Nier: Automata!!
Will you be watching the movies?
Idk who you are misremembering the kid cheering on endeavor as, but they are not the same person.
U aren't ready, for season 6 😂
Man, I really didn't like Endeavor. Outside of what we saw of Shoto's backstory painting him as a monster, he was just an asshole who stood against all the main characters just because of his dumb ego, plus his powers were boring and generic and his design was just kind of meh
This is the episode that made Endeavor my favorite character
