In 1969, the Rolling Stones, and a hippie dream of the 1960s, were falling apart at the seams. Heralding the end of the era of hope, Gimme Shelter was a song written about Keith Richards' personal life, but one that captured a zeitgeist much bigger, becoming the Rolling Stones' apocalyptic anthem.
