8:25 Andre to quote you, no chance.
Bear is going to be the gorilla every time
Gorillas have to spend 80% of their waking hours. Just chewing because they have such a low calorie diet
Even a giant grizzly bear that weighs over a thousand lb can run 45 mph
The claws on a grizzly would tear through that gorilla like he doesn't exist

They have done computer models and TV shows that went deeper into the mechanics on this exact topic, a brown bear would destroy a gorilla. The size and power difference between the two puts the bear on an entirely different level. There are brown bears here in Alaska that are size of the vehicle you drive. Brown bears are not slow either, 35-40 mph top speed.

The Kodiak bear is a sub-species of grizzly, that as the name suggests, is found on Kodiak Island in the Aleutian island chain off Alaska. It is the second largest bear, next to the polar bear.. Years ago a wildlife trainer was given a orphaned Kodiak cub and he raised it up to adulthood. They had video of him playing with him and he admitted that he was getting too strong for him. He built a ramp for his pickup truck, when the bear walked up into the bed, the truck looked like a tiny Toyota pickup. He said the last time they weighed him, he was almost 2,000 pounds.

And gorillas may be smart, but bears aren’t stupid, either. But it really depends on the species of bear. A black bear probably wouldn’t even engage with a gorilla, he’d just say “no, thanks” and make a detour. So black bear, probably yeah, the gorilla would prevail. However, if you’re talking about a grizzly bear, it’s an entirely different conversation. The grizzly is a predator that is capable of bringing down a moose, which is in the same weight category as a gorilla, and meaner. So I wouldn’t back a gorilla against a grizzly bear.

There's several reasons why the bear wins:
    1. Bears kill food; Gorillas are vegetarian so they lack certain predatory skills.
    2. Bears have thick, loose skin that protects them from bite/claw attacks from other bears so the gorillas bites aren't as effective; Gorillas have tight skin and low fat so bite/claw attacks go right into muscle
    3. Grizzlies are like 700 pounds (317kg) and Silverbacks are only around 450 pounds (204kg)
    4. Grizzlies can run 35mph

Yes, gators are bigger in Florida; lots of water and always warm. I was born and raised here. At night my dad could mimic a baby gator in distress and call the females up to the boat. He could also mimic an adult mating call and at night the top of the water would light up like a Christmas tree with gator eyes. If there is any body of water larger than a puddle, there's likely a gator in it. For a short distance, on flat land they can run faster than a horse.

Brown bears can put down a moose with one blow of their paw. Gorilla would not even have time to react before it was dead. But it's a free country, and you're free to be wrong. Wild male gorillas weigh 136 to 227 kg (300 to 500 lb). Generally, brown bears weigh anywhere from 80 to 600 kg (180 to 1,320 lb). The bear has twice the weight, runs much faster, and has teeth and claws like huge daggers. I think the gorilla's best chance is to climb a tree, although it had better be a big one.

The gator you saw on the golf course was one that's a normal course of events when you live in Florida. My dad did shoot a gator who had been being fed and was not afraid of people. My dad knew it was there but continued fileting his catch which drew the gator in. When it came up onto the dock my dad shot it within the quarter sized spot on the head that's instant death. At first he was charged for hunting it but after they did a necropsy on the gator and found undigested chicken they dropped the charges. That was during the total hunting ban in the 1970's. He could have been facing federal prison for defending the lives of his children from a huge predator that was 12 ft 9 inches and weighed in excess of 2000 pounds. They had to use a wrecker truck to pull it up out of the water so they could study it. Not only did it have chicken in its stomach content but a dog, cat, and parts of a dolphin as well.

It's a 1 Andre. Black bears and even brown bears are much more common, and they can run very fast, and are in very good shape. However, they are certainly not as powerful as a silverback. I'm not sure about Polar bears, which we have in Alaska, they are huge, heavy, and their bite is incredibly powerful. They kill sea lions, so they're definitely tough! 🤠

That must be regional from somewhere in the states that doesn't have polecats. I have never heard a skunk called a polecat and always knew a polecat as a distinct animal growing up.

@@MicahWo Yeah, same. I've never once in my life heard someone call a skunk a polecat. That's like calling a badger a raccoon LOL. Wild ferrets in Europe are not called ferrets... they are polecats. That's where the name comes from. I live in a state that has a black-footed ferret population (they've been steadily reintroduced since the late 90's), but I've always known polecat as an alternative name for ferrets.

I think that people forget that literally millions of species have gone extinct before humans were even a thing. Extinction is just a part of the natural cycle. With that said, conservation is important and no species deserves extinction (except maybe mosquitos), especially at the hands of carelessness.

    • @adiarainfoster
      @adiarainfoster 2 месяца назад

Yes, that's true. However today's extinction rate is hundreds, even argued as thousands times higher than the natural baseline. Humans are destroying the world, one species at a time at a MUCH higher rate than they would have gone extinct naturally. We use all this planet's resources, destroy the land, remove whole habitats and then decide that we're doing nothing wrong because animals have always gone extinct. it's different though. It's so different.
In nature, before we came along, when a species went extinct, it was often because another species rose to take it's place in the ecosystem that were more successful. We wipe out hundreds of thousands of species in the course of our history with no other species to come and take their place. The plight of bees is just one example of this. Several plant species are going extinct with them because those plants rely on them. The plants and animals all exist in a balance that we are rapidly and wantonly destroying. But the powers that be simply don't care along with a large portion of the population who like to tell themselves that nothing is wrong. Sure, things will probably be fine in our lifetime, but the grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on into the future will suffer. Our descendants will be the ones who will die with the planet we are destroying.

We have polar bears and Kodiak bears too. Texas does not have alligators but they do have wild boar. A wildcat that is not mentioned is the ocelot. They have come into the USA from Mexico. There have been people that thought they had a large house cat until the cat became territorial and attacked small children.

Not so. "(The American Alligator) ranges from the Sabine River of East Texas to the Gulf of Mexico and across the coastal marshes to the Rio Grande. This range includes about 120 counties in East Texas and the Gulf Coastal Plains." Also, I believe the Kodiak bear is a subspecies of the Brown Bear or Grizzly, not a separate species.

Even google says a grizzly would win- first result- "A brown bear, also known as a grizzly bear, would likely win a fight against a gorilla due to its size, strength, and other factors:
    Size
Grizzly bears can weigh up to 800 lbs and stand 5-8 ft tall, while gorillas weigh 300-485 lbs and stand 4-6 ft tall.
    Strength
Grizzly bears can lift up to 1,100 lbs, while gorillas can lift up to 1,800 lbs. Brown bears are also estimated to be 2.5-5 times stronger than humans, while adult male gorillas are said to be as strong as eight healthy men.
    Other factors
Grizzly bears have thicker necks than gorillas, making them harder to choke, and they also have claws and bites to use as weapons. Grizzly bears are also surprisingly fast, with a top speed of 35 mph compared to a gorilla's 20 mph."

If you want to see some pretty big alligators you should go to the Okefenokee swamp. I believe it is in Georgia near the top of Florida. I saw some sunning themselves very close to the walkways. And huge. People got really close to them and the gators didn't react or get aggressive. They might be well fed. They also have boat tours into the swamp and other interesting things. The water of the swamp is so black it can act as a mirror reflecting the surroundings.
Nope a gorilla would not fight any kind of bear. Gorillas are smart enough to walk away. Black bear might run from a gorilla, but a grizzly bear would not. Grizzly bears are more aggressive than black bears. And a lot bigger.

#2 I laughed out loud when you said a Gorilla could beat a brown bear, the Grizzly Bear is one of the most vicious animals in the world, I think it would eat the Gorilla for breakfast! The Gorilla might have a slim chance of beating the Black Bear, and I say a slim chance, just because they seem docile doesn't mean they are! The Brown Grizzly Bear is much more aggressive!
Seals are awesome, I agree 100%!

Gorillas just don't have that crushing bite force, and the 6 inch claws of a Griz. The gorilla will have a lot of trouble biting through the thick matted hair and hide of a Grizzly... but the Griz will have no such problems ripping sheets of hide and muscle off the gorilla. The gorilla is unarmed in such an encounter. And as huge as they seem, the gorilla also has a disadvantage in weight and muscle mass.
