At 7:30, the concept of ethnicity versus nationality always confuses Europeans (and others). I am pretty sure that nearly 100 percent of Americans are proud of being American -- as our nationality. But to us, nationality is a question of citizenship, not ethnicity. So it is not contradictory for us to say, I am second-generation Filipino or I am Greek-American. This can get shortened to "I am Irish" or "I am Polish." Those refer to ethnic, family and (to some extent) cultural backgrounds. Since "American" is not an ethnicity, it is no contradiction for somebody to say, "I am Estonian" and have been born in Chicago. Of course, we're all Americans, but we take pride in our family and ethnic heritage. They just make the U.S. more interesting.

    • @KarmasAB123

There are also people who identify as American culturally or idealistically, but do not identify with the nation as it were, so, it depends on the conversation.

@@KarmasAB123 What many do not realize is that per the USA Census every person must identify their ancestry. That is how the USA counts how many African-Americans, Latino-Americans, Italian-Americans, Polish-Americans, etc. there are in the country. This concept of ethnic ancestry goes back to the “one drop” rule to determine who was Black because those people did not have any rights until 1865, and only limited rights until 1965. Also immigrants from southern & eastern Europe also had to listed separately until 1940, again because they were considered second-class and treated as such. Many people of German descent changed their ethnicity starting in 1915 and again in 1940 to just “American” while others from uneducated rural areas simply forget after a couple of generations.

    • @BlueDebut

I had distant ancestors get starved out in Ireland, they fought in the Civil War and a lot of them died and the lesson was to never forget where we came from. I don't get why Europeans feel the need to quash that. Like we didn't make a whole new life for us just to be told once again by Europeans what we can and can't be 😂😂

The people from Argentina do not to call themselves Latinos from what I understand. Naturally my family has branched out and we have a multitude of cultures within our family. That includes black, white, Mexican, Hawaiians, Japanese and some Chinese. My Ex wife is half Greek and Filipino and our son just like everyone else, is American as apple pie. We have payed our dues, our taxes and have many members who have served this country’s military proud. One thing for sure is that the Internet lacks nuance and is only focused on extreme takes with mostly narcissists making claims of absolution about American culture. People wanna be political on the Internet because they find it that recreational rage is something they can participate in freely without consequence. The best thing is to experience it for yourself and turn off the damn television and Internet. The American dream is to be lived with dignity, optimism, pride, tolerance and understanding with a helping hand to others who want to be treated the same.

Though in reality it does make sense, because obviously people hit the coasts more, but it makes it seem that the midwest isn't worth visiting. Which is so far from true. People who live on the coasts in the US use that phrase to belittle the midwest. Sure, there aren't nearly the tourists spots you will find on each coasts. But there is some beautiful places, awesome people and great things to do. I was born in Indiana, moved to Chicago out of high school and currently thinking about moving to Michigan. I don't think many Americans really expect "invasion or civil unrest" to the point that they arm themselves for that purpose. Frankly, I don't know why a lot of people have them. I actually have a number of them because I think they are fine pieces of metal workmanship in a world where increasingly everything is plastic. Basically I'm a collector like other people collect dolls or china plates. I do have one or two I keep at my house in the desert where more than once I've encountered a rattlesnake or an angry javelina (pecary--sort of like a wild pig) and I have "snake shot" for that purpose but most of the guns stay locked up at home. I would never carry one and hardly ever load them (I was a sharpshooter in the military so I know how to use them)--I would never keep one sitting around loaded.
No, I don't want the government to know if I have a gun or how many. Sooner or later, there will be efforts to confiscate them or even repeal the 2nd Amendment. When you use a credit card the transaction is coded (restaurant, general merchandise, gas etc) which is how, for example, card issuers know you earned rebates for using them at certain types of businesses. California is on the verge or requiring a special code for gun sales which would permit the generation of a list of gun purchasers. This is the sort of thing I expect more of. Which is why I don't announce, other than annonymously, that I own a gun.

I’m American, but my family’s Finnish last name is always a conversation starter regarding my heritage, especially since I moved to Texas. My brother calls our last name “Buy a Vowel” as you do not encounter a normal vowel until the seventh letter. I always find these conversations interesting. We are a very diverse group of people. For example, my nephew’s ancestry is mainly Finnish and Ugandan with a little Swedish, Danish, English and German thrown in there for fun. 😊

most States do get snow in the winter, even the Southern States get snow in the winter in the upper regions of the States, but it's not every year and not always on Christmas.. that is a middle to Northern States thing... On rare occasion, even the southern parts of the Southern States will get snow... I live in South Louisiana and we get it about once every 10 years. (last time we got snow was in 2016). but it's very little and it clumps up into ice quickly and then melts usually by the next morning... this is because it rarely get the right conditions for snow and even when it does happen, the ground is still too warm to retain it for long, then the sun is still hot enough in the winter to melt it quickly, come morning...

Just so you know allot of folks here in Oklahoma and Texas purchase large trucks, usually because we use them for hauling heavy loads and working. We use them for camping, hunting, farming, four wheeling, rapid running, we load em up for recreational activities and to haul our various types of equipment, it depends on what we do or where we are going. I Love your interest in the 🇺🇸! You bring your family and come on over anytime sugar, we will be glad to have you. Plenty of folks wear thier cowboy hats daily. Depends on where you are in the US. If you really want to see Cowboys wearing their cowboy hats, chaps, boots, spurs, bollos, belts, buckles, vests, wranglers and get the full experience, you should visit a US Rodeo or a honky tonk on a friday or sat night. I live in Atlanta, the jewel of the South, and no one here says "yall". It's the city. There are people from all over here and the accent is very diluted by hearing people from all over. If you leave the city and go to a small town, you will hear strong Southern accents and "yall". But cities are cities. They always have a different culture than the surrounding area; no matter the state. Cities are more similar, culturally, to each other than they region around them (well mostly... the "White Christmas" line across the US ends at about southern Tennessee. You CAN get snow below that line, but it's rare and you don't generally get that much. An inch or so. If they get snow down there, it's usually because a polar vortex blasted through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and then finally Tennessee. Usually, it blows itself out by the time it gets down there. The western plains generally don't have many systems like that due to the way the earth rotates and they also don't have the great lakes to pick up a lot of water that can then be turned into snow, but they get craploads of snowfall in the mountains and the northwest.

That will mostly be north, northeast, midwest, and northwest. For example, you will find snowy mountains in Northern California, but start driving south and you'll end up at a beach. You may hear someone say "if u don't like this weather, just wait 5 minutes, it'll change". That especially happens in states like Tn. which has mountains (and is cooler) on the eastern side, but is flat (and warmer) on the western side.

As far as snow is concerned, a lot of states you would not expect to get a lot of snow, actually get a lot of snow in the winter. We get snow here in TN, which most people associate with hot and humid weather, but that's mostly during summer. In winter, we get some snow and last year we got a LOT of snow.
