I just watched your top 20 Mark Hoppus bass lines video yesterday! So the fact that you just uploaded this today is the universe doing it's magic!
This is similar to what The Beatles did on While My Guitar Gently Weeps where during the verse, they use bass chords and during the chorus, they use single notes but double the bassline with an electric 12-string for an octave effect.
Mark is way more talented than people give him credit for
He does this himself...he is self deprecating on purpose...he is very clever and hides it with dick jokes....three facts to support my theory....he was in college when he met Tom so no dounce academically....his dad was a scientist which worked for the IS armed forces oh and they sold millions of records..
Love how your editing is progressing; I dig what you did on this one. Keep up the radness 🤙
Thanks!
Thicc bass technique? I think I'd know something about that
You'd sure do
Nah you don't
NO shit!.. checks channel*
John Entwistle used this type of style but played both parts together, not all the time but as a dynamic in the song, Baba O'Riley & Won't Get Fooled Again Live isolated bass videos on RUclips feature it as well as him holding the root while playing riffs above it, a true innovator of the Bass.
Blink is the best at creating 20 different songs out of the same chord progression and they all sound different somehow
Love you man thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for watching!
That’s a neat Technique mark uses might add that to my bass tracks
It's definitely a fun one to use!
Jerry Finn was a genius.
Great video
Is that an 8-Bit San Diego playing in the interludes :D?
(Clever to do a video on the bass VI sound while also using a song that references The Cure 😉)
How does they replicate that during live shows? pre-recorded bass-chords? because as I seen Mark plays roots
I think they dont. Not everything from the studio version has to be teplicated live.
@@bananasoftheanytime1242 yeah a lot of times when a 3 piece band plays a song recorded with more than 3 tracks, they will omit certain elements of the song. Beck does it a lot during his live performances because his songs are so intracate and well crafted.
Also they probably don't have the need to do it live, since Tom (or Matt) only play one guitar. This technique is used to add clarity when the bass is mixed.
its because of neds atomic dustbin, an english band from the 90s who had 2 bass players, one of witch did lead instead of a second guitar player. look them up.
It was more "why does he do this?" in a production sense. Not so much, "what inspired him to do it". But yeah, NAD are great.
I read that as steamed hams bass technique
1:23 where is this from?
I love you man
sweet!
I already told you just change your name to "blink182 covers". Its been 10 years of this, guy
Lol, wtf are you?
Sounds good but a bass VI does not have a higher octave like how you show with your octave pedal. just turn the dry knob all the way down.
Of course, but It tends to sound a bit clearer if you leave a small amount of the dry signal in with the octave down. It's a bit more artificial sounding otherwise - obviously with a real VI you wouldn't have that issue.
@@SugarpillProd Yeah, the digitech drop does a really good job at tracking as well as the EHX pog stuff if you’re interested.
@@andrewutz3674 I've found Little Alterboy to be pretty good for any pitch related recordings I do nowadays, so that's usually my go-to, in favour of pedals. But yeah I've heard good things about the Digitech!
What’s the song at 1.25 in the mix ?!
It's just a thing I made up for the video. Thanks for watching!
@@SugarpillProd would make a great full original song
whats that song at 1H28 its great
Thanks! It's just something I came up with for the video.
𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐦 🤤
The clips from movies and tv shows really detract from your videos. I know you want to add humor without narrating ur vids but it always feels so forced
Fair enough if you don't like it. I find the videos too dry without them.
Not really a bass technique but a recording technique. And alot of bands do it not just for bass big dog x.
Its pretty uncommon for bass, big dog
@@Sam-uz3ov it absolutley is not hahahhahahaa. Youre obviously not a bassist
It's specifically for bass. If you wanna go ahead and double up your Hammond Organ with a VI, you're not really getting the same effect, big dog x.
@@SugarpillProd did i say you can double track an organ? Hahahahhaha you probably could but no you can double track multiple different instruments my dude and yes bassists have been doing this kind of recording forever. Maybe listen to some different genres of music besides pop punk i dunno =/
@@olivernash1751 I can't listen to music that uses more than 3 chords, unfortunately.
