  • A quick take discussing Tyrese Gibson facing backlash after saying he wishes he was born Latino. The singer and actor took to Instagram to give his thoughts about the shortcomings of the black community and black culture while at the same time praising other communities such as Latinos and Middle Eastern. Pointing out their unity, family values and success and that sometimes he wishes he was born Latino. Saying that black people aren't grounded in the same integral and magical nuances as they are and imagining how things would be if black people came together. Since his comments, Tyrese has been criticized by [black] fans and told that the Latino community can have him. In this video we discuss the problem with Tyrese's comments, how he should have worded it and what he could be doing with his wealth and status.

I’m a Carib Latina and this embarrassed me! Any sound minded Latino knows that we are a mixed ethnic group with a ton of influences including strong African and indigenous heritage or even European, depending on your country of origin and admixture or lack thereof. We have our issues like anyone else and what he is doing is rejecting his own culture to uplift every other group possible. In my life I’ve seen beautiful family structure with every culture. This isn’t a race issue. It’s a cultural and self hate issue. He is culturally African American and he has decided to lean into the negative aspects of his own culture instead of making the choice to embody the strength within his own culture. Nor did he look at or praise continental African culture. He isn’t Latino, Jewish, Arab or anything else and he never will be. He needs to uplift his culture instead of trying to click his heels three times and wish to be someone else.

Great conversation. It feels like Tyrese is doing the same thing by openly bashing his own community, which has been trending, especially in these last few weeks. We only get press if we openly bash each other, as someone who has talk to many members of different cultures they bash each other, but we get more clicks and views if we do it to each other. Tyrese needs to do a better job focusing on the positive by addressing the flaws with himself and the community so that way he could be an advocate instead of a self-hater.

Throwing money at the problem ain't gonna fix much if the culture is toxic. The culture needs to change.

We would of been the same way if white folk left us alone. I hate when people compare us to others when the struggle never been the same. Who ever feels the way Tyrese do is lost. Seriously.

@cherryue89.. THISSss! Why people keep acting like billions of dollars don't go towards our destruction. They are very afraid if we get the ball to score. Look at how they try to sweet talk us during election time...while slapping us in the face given illegal immigrants free expenses on us....then tell us they ain't got it. Freebies is how they glide to the top...we on our own out here. Positivity does exist, but never posted. Are we not seeing in real time the swarms of illegal immigrants coming on our land. So are things as great as Tyrese claims🤔 they couldn't be successful in their own lands? The only reason they appear to be successful on our soil is because of the benefits and handouts they get. That we are never given. Look at this moment right now, history repeats itself. Is this not how they got to their current status on our soil he is ranting about "they didn't work hard, they were given a leg up. They didn't win their position fairly, it was given to spite us. It ain't hard to tell "nas"

Be the change you want to see in your community. You have fame and influence and can start charities etc. Snoop is legit funding football teams for kids in Long Beach has for a long time. LeBron has a school and many many more people in the black community are trying to do thier part. Give back to the community that rasied you. You will always feel lacking when you compare to someone else family/life.

@@kosco9658faith is all you can have in the black community. Because that is all it will ever be. Never anything of substance!!! I myself enjoy being black in regards to k owing our rich history and our potential but it’s far too few people in our community who are enlightened. We have a culture that embraces everything bad and punishes everything good. There is no general sense of accountability amongst our people. Just look at how black women deliberately choose terrible black men to open their legs for and later turn around and project all of the terrible qualities of those men unto all black men. These women are only ending up as single mothers and in return continuing the perpetual cycle of creating the same toxic , non responsible and emotional black men they complain about. All because their focus on being “strong and independent “ and chasing the bag voids them of prioritizing choosing a good strong black man with good morals to marry her and father her children. We have no community. All the other races come into our communities and make money off of us. Look how many foolish black women put Arabs and Chinese through college each year by continuing to take their money to these nail shops and beauty stores? Being black is cool but it’s a hard existence!! Especially when you see the dysfunction and our punished by your same community for holding them accountable to make change.

Great video! Perfect conversation that needs to be talked about on a regular. Phenomenal overall topic and specific details talk both mentioned. Really felt like a conversation then a lecture.
Being black even tho I am half black (my beautiful Black Queen mama) and my Mexican father (who wasn't around, which shocks a lot of people lol ooo stereotypes), I always try to talk about everything yall mentioned in this video. Loving ourselves truly is never easy. It always seems easier to say I wish I was this then actually accepting who you are because of others (society/external) and self (internal) shame that will always be harmful and hurtful. I do still love Tyrese, I get kinda get where he is comming from, but yea wording it the way he did is completely wrong cuz it doesn't seem he understands how counter productive that is for others, especially the black community. Lastly, truly loving someone is shouldn't have a race & color motive.... comming from being a mixed baby and proud too... it's unfair to think that to an extent. Where are people who do think like that when dating a different race, some people like me, only love who I love. As time went on for me, race shouldn't be factor for love.

Thanks for watching and I appreciate your thoughts. Yeah we talk about this sort of thing all the time on the channel because these conversations need to be had and heard. Bigger channels and platforms aren’t having these discussions in-depth like I am.
I understand what you mean that race isn’t a factor for you when it comes to love. My friend, who I was talking to, is dating a white girl. If you find somebody that will treat you the way you deserve to be treated whatever form that comes in, I’m not against it.
But for me, I only consider black women and they’re the only options for me. Because moving the needle forward starts with us choosing ourselves, [romantically], that’s what other races do. And we should exercise that same pride. I wouldn’t tell you to leave a Latino man that treats you right for a black man that won’t just for the sake of being with someone black.
I know too much to date out and black women were always my preference growing up anyway.

      According to the internet:
“The short answers to these questions are “yes,” and “it's complicated.” Hispanic refers to a person with ancestry from a country whose primary language is Spanish. Latino and its variations refer to a person with origins from anywhere in Latin America (Mexico, South and Central America) and the Caribbean.”
“Mexican refers to people who inhabit for are from Mexico, a part of Latin America. Spanish is the main language in Mexico, but not all Mexicans speak the language. This means that people from Mexico are Latino, and they may or may not be Hispanic.”

The same way it's offensive to call us "African American" I am American. Don't know anyone in my family with African ancestry, but still refer to so called black Americans who's ancestors only been on this soil for generationsssssss as an "African" American 🤔 as if I am an immigrant on my mother'sland. I only know American Indians in my blood line, but I guess our faces got replaced....just like they are attempting to do right now with the influx of new immigrants. I swear history just repeats itself just like lies.
