  • A quick take discussing the Michael Jackson Estate selling Michael Jackson's catalogue to Sony for 600 million. News of the Michael Jackson's estate negotiating with Sony to sell half of the King of Pop's music catalogue surfaced last year and the deal has been recently finalized and set in stone. Back in 1985, Michael Jackson would purchase the ATV publishing which contained music from artists such as Sly and The Family Stone, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jackie Wilson, Ray Charles and The Beatles. In 1991, Michael Jackson would sell half of ATV to Sony for $100 Million along with becoming the highest-paid music artist to date. Eventually merging with music company in 1995 but maintaining ownership of half the company. Since then Michael would remain adamant on owning his half of Sony/ATV and refused to sell it resulting in friction between Michael Jackson and Sony executives that would last until the end of his life. Following his passing, although fired by the singer, John Branca would become the executor of Michael Jackson's Estate and would sell Michael's half of ATV to Sony in 2016 for a reported $750 million dollars. Branca, along with John McClain have now sold half of Michael Jackson's publishing and recorded masters catalog to Sony. In this video we give our thoughts on the deal and the long-term ramifications of it as well as the persecution of Michael Jackson because of the publishing he owned.
