Athelstan is one of the most well written characters in the history of television. Gone but not forgotten dear friend.

Athelstan’s character development pulled Ragnar’s character development behind him. Their growth is amazing, and even better, how Athelstan is born again. He found himself. Ragnar learned so much from his example. I love them both.

I only just started watching this incredible show. Along with Ragnar, Athelstan is the best character. He's so complex, so utterly human, that he's instantly relatable. He represents all of us, as we struggle to find ourselves and meaning in our lives. I know the series won't be the same without him. Awesome video here. Thank you for this.

I think it had to be done. There was no way Ragnar would have let him stay in the English world (he would have kept coming back for him), and there's no way Floki was going to let the relationship with Ragnar go on any longer.
I think it was the perfect ending to his character, although I would have liked to see more of him in the series.
It does, however, make his latter appearances that much more special.
That being said, great compilation, and well chosen music accompaniment.

He was more of a brother to Ragnar than Rollo ever was!
He honestly got one of the best send offs in the show. When you are truly born again, you know your place is in heaven. He knew his salvation was secure and accepted his fate with open arms.

My favourite character! He was the wisest man in the world of vikings and he had the greatest knowledge.
He was also a good warrior and his only sin and dishonor in the eyes of northmen was, that he was a christian in past.

What I love about Athelstan is that he is the one that shows the most moral character and is a true man of God.
He shows his beliefs and compassion in the true way the Bible preaches. Even when he has a crisis in faith, he still held on.
He continued being a good man and helped bridge a truce between Ragnar and Ecbert.
In the end, he is born again.
Thanks Athelstan, you are a good man. May our Lord Jesus Christ welcome you in His home.

Incredible. Really well edited, you matched the beats of the music perfectly. I'll miss Asthelstan, he was the most interesting character in my opinion and I could relate to him the most. I wish he was still alive, but at the same time I understand that he had to die and appreciate the writers truthful handling of his conflicted character right to the end. When the time comes I'll embrace death with open arms just as he did. Beautiful. I'm filled with emotion watching this.

I thought the scene where he explains paganism to Judith is one of the most interesting scenes in the whole series. The line "I love Odin, but I also love Christ. What more is there to say?" really shows hs dilemma so well.

Such a great show... the acting and the writing!
Athelstan connected Ragnar and Ecbert to a wholly different level. When we look back, we realise that it was Athelstan's character that drove all other characters and his death was a turning point of the show.
I miss you Athelstan the way ragnar misses you 😔

I just watched this episode and I am in such a state of 'I-don't-know-how-to-feel-about-any-of-this'.
I still love Floki so much but I finally got attached to Aethelstan. D:
I know that feeling. The writers want us so badly to hate Floki, but I just can't. Although I liked Aethelstan, he was a great character.
They treat him like Loki. he's good and bad. sane and crazy. there's suggestions he hears gods and can shapeshift. I think he's Loki's joke to the mortal world.
Athelstan's mind was ahead of his time.

In a way, Floki IS a jealous ex! He was pissed at Athelstan not only for being a Christian, but mostly because he stole his best friend (Ragnar) away from him.

That was great tribute. I really don't understand why they killed him off. He was always an interesting character, always stood out from the rest of the warriors and suddenly his storyline this season isn't even good and it's not going to get better since he's dead. I would rather see deaths of the boring ones instead of Athelstan and Siggy. But maybe that's because George is on some new series.

not really beceause he's on another show, according to michael, creator of the show, ragnar's character is going to become darker and is going to do things the audience otherwise would not agree with. athelstan had to die in order to let ragnar become this darker person. reminds me of the sons.

I loved George Blagden as Athelstan; brilliant acting for a great actor. Athelstan affected most around him spiritually with his goodness & kindess; he almost was divine. Floki didn't understand him & others, too; it was only jealously that drove Floki to do what he did. EXCELLENT video for an great TV show; better than GOT for me!
