Trying to fund one of these basses at the moment. I agree completely on your opinion of signature models. I mainly play doom/sludge/stoner metal and it would honestly be my main bass for that. But it sounds great with any genre honestly. My whole thing with any piece of gear is how versatile I can make it. I'll use a 2nd gen sunn model T and a 6x12 for country and a 68 super reverb for drone metal if I want to 🤣
This really is a great bass. It would work really well (of course) for what you mainly play, but sounds great in other genres too. I recently recorded an album of mostly Western swing with it and it sounded GREAT!
Sweet!! I almost had one in a trade over this weekend but never got a response. So a 70s orange OR80 it is for now. I'll eventually get one though! Would love to hear that album as well!
@ Troy Walker, if you ever play with a pick I would remove the bridge pickup cover. Rickenbacker will send a free treble bezel if one or a pair is not included. You will not regret spending the money on the AC. Take care.
I also play it with flats but in Cstandard (cobalt flat) this bass has a killer sound when you play both pickups but the treble pickup with vintage push pull engaged and neck pick up volume a bit off. After 1.5 years I still don't know if I want to keep the two pick up covers or not!
The vintage push pull does very little for me. I always play with both pickups on full or both with bridge pickup rolled off slightly. I never keep pickup covers on as I like the tone best playing right over the pickups. That’s just me though - certainly no right or wrong.
At first glance I was intrigued by the identical pickups in both positions, but then I saw that they are both moved closer to the bridge than a standard Rick has them. That’s not a positive for me. One of the best things about Ricks is that the “bridge” pickup sits closer to a middle position like on a P Bass. Makes the bridge pickup sound much better for my taste.
They fellow I bought the bass from, Sterling Fuentes. I still have the original, but as I'm not a big Al Cisneros fan I didn't really need or want his signature on the bass.
@@timsarter5622 I use La Bella flats on my Hofner Cavern/Twickenham reissue I just got last Saturday. Love playing it. My 4003 has RotoSound Swingers 66 round wound to try the Chris Squire sound. Next will change to flats Tru Strings by RotoSound to get Paul McCartney sound.
The person I bought it from was a good luthier. He was easily able to cut me a new pickguard. I sent him a note to ask if I could give you his contact information. If he can’t do it I’m sure any decent luthier can cut you one. . Should be pretty cheap about 30 bucks. You’re not crazy about having the signature on it like me? Or do you simply want to preserve it?
@shelton it’s a bit of a late reply , but if you haven’t found a pick guard for your 4003AC , I’ve made myself one in green pearl to go with fret markers and made then sold a couple on Reverb . Long story short , I have enough material to make one more if your interested. Thanks !
Thant’s how they made it. They wanted to bridge pick ups. It is a lot of routing for sure, but it doesn’t bother me at all and actually helps make the bass lighter. To my ear having a second pick up in the sweet spot really makes a difference.
I don't get why spend so much and you don't even like the artist.why not just get a rick and costum it. New used you dropped easy up to 5 grand for it.
First of all I got it for MUCH less than full retail. Secondly the pickup placement makes this different and in my opinion better sounding than a standard 4003. The signature means nothing to me, true, but I’ve never been excited by having anyone’s signature on an instrument. It’s the instrument I’m drown to not the signature or marketing
@@timsarter5622 -I’ve been playing Rick basses since the mid-70s, and my favorite sounds have been from a 4002, and a customised Laredo I had with the pickups moved to the same positions. I don’t have either bass anymore, unfortunately. I do have a walnut Cheyenne, which is somewhat similar looking to the AC model, and I love it! The oil finish feels fantastic. Great video, very nice to hear one of these being used with flatwounds, and without the extreme overdrive sound Al favors.👍
Hi, I’m primarily a guitar player, but have a mild obsession with sleep. Would you recommend this bass after owning it for a bit? Is it worth the 2900 out the door? Thanks in advance for your response. I was gonna pull the trigger this morning, but read all these threads in forums about folks having issues and what not with QC. Made me a bit nervous. I don’t really have an opportunity to try before I buy.
Hi I paid under 2k for mine but I got a crazy good deal. It’s the best production Ric I’ve owned. As for its worth it’s a hard call. I think originally they were a lot more than 2900 so that sounds like a decent deal. If you play it I’d say it’s worth it. It really is a lovely bass. I love the pick up placement on it and my ear sounds better than the standard pick up placement. So I’d say yes but it depends if you can afford it or not
Nice play Tim, i recommend you listen to the band Sleep.
I definitely will.
sleep rule ,praise iommy 💥
I thought that was a prerequisite to owing this bass
Yesssss
> buys a signature bass of a doom metal artist
> plays jazz
all jokes aside, great demo.
Thanks! The irony of what I play on th Ac signature model is not lost on me!
Backer is pretty universal )
Tim Sarter, that is one beautiful Rickenbacker and it sounds great! Nice playing too.
Thank you! It’s a wonderful bass. Best Ric I’ve ever had.
@@timsarter5622 , you're welcome.
Rics is wery best basses ever made))
This is probably my favorite colour they make these basses in. But I'd still love to see an azureglow with the maple fingerboard!
Yes! That would be beautiful

Damn you have a Model T? Sick
@Brownie 2 of them to be exact. 1 first gen, one 2nd gen. 2 2000s's as well.
All said and done, Ricks are fun to play.
Great Great demo Tim, really helps with the decision making in buying one of these!
You're welcome. They are great basses.
Very nice! Do you reckon I can get hold of those volume / tone dials for my standard 4003?

👍
That's the Al Cisneros signature Bass. You should have played it in C Standard and have a fuzz pedal with it.
No, I shouldn’t have. Just because that’s how Al Cisneros plays does not mean that’s how I should.
Love that 😍

To each their own I guess. I love the pick up placement on this Rick!
Finally filling backorders. Mine arrives tomorrow, pyramid flats await.
Fantastic. I love flats on this bass. I’m surprised the 4003AC was back ordered. They made so few of them…
Did that model come with the stove cooker control knobs?
Yes. Ones I’m video are original. So cool!!
Man your dumb. Of course it did!
That guitar is screaming for some Motörhead ♠️ 😊
Lol
Nice video brotha! Bass looks and sounds great!

Beautiful bass….
Thanks - I think it is too. The green inlays ruin it for many Rickenbacker enthusiasts. I don’t get it - I love how they look.
Nice. Are you using flatwounds ?

Yes, I am. .39-.96 La Bella flats. They are my favorite flat!

But if I may ask, how old are these strings at the time of this recording?
They were pretty fresh. Maybe 7 weeks?
The flatwounds on my jazzmaster have been on 7 years now
they should do a Rusty Famar tribute axe.
Who is that?
I heard these basses are rare.
Yes. They did a limited run of 420
You can get them. They pop up on sweetwater frequently. I got on back in November and at a discount from them.
