Such a wise decision! This year was also a time for me where I was also confronted with the idea of "pushing through". People always say this, but it can go horribly wrong, where you can get burned out, make the wrong decisions, and maybe not even recover from it. It's a huge risk and sometimes taking your time and really thinking things through is the wiser decision. I feel like you balanced this so well and can't wait for your match season next year!!❤❤
Thank you Samira! I really appreciate it! I wish you all the best on your interviews and this year's Match cycle! I'm sure you'll do absolutely amazing! 🤗🥰❤️

But now, after listening to you, you’re right, it’s not a rat race and as long as the journey makes sense to you and makes you feel comfortable it should be fine. Thanks for the great video! Good luck to you! ❤️

Your Step 1 score will still matter a lot for match 2023 as many IMGs will have a step 1 score when applying. In other words, step 1 and 2 will be both equally important.
Yes that is true! Step 1 score will still matter to programs that decide to filter applicants based on step 1 score. So yes you're right in saying that it will matter for Match 2023 :)
Aww Sarang, you are such a breath of fresh air! I’m sure it was difficult but I think you made the right decision. That is a really encouraging video for all who had the same dilemma . Now that you have the time but still need to show more than just preparing for the exams till you apply , will you do obeservships ,externships or anything else this year till next year September ?
Good call. I'm currently preparing for Step 1 and will probably be applying for Match 2024. One doubt I had was how much importance do programs (IM programs to be specific) give to research publications? If one doesn't have research publications on their applications but have decent scores and USCE, do they stand a chance of matching? Btw, all the best for your Match '23 journey 👍🏻
Hi! Publications are important but just because you don't have them doesn't mean you can't match. I personally know someone who matched without a single publication! I think it will depend on your overall application too :)
I think that's a wise decision, keep upgrading your CV... I hope everything goes well 🙏🏻 I'm currently studying to take my step 1 at the beginning of next year and for me is really hard to study and work at the same time, my only support is my husband who's in the same journey. We're planning to move to Massachusetts next year to do some research and rotations, do you have any advice from that city? I'm a little worried because I heard that city has a high cost of living 😓
Studying and working must be quite challenging for sure. So proud of you for juggling both. I'm not sure which city in Massachusetts you'll be living in but the cost of living in Boston in particular is not so cheap. There are still ways to reduce expenses tho, so I hope you guys get to adjust to the new environment well! And good luck on your studies! Take it one day at a time :)
Hi! I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and life decisions with us. I wanted to ask on how you took your OET? Like if you need lots of study materials and does it need a lot of time to prepare? I would like to know how the process goes! God bless you.
Hi , I am a fellow doctor, excellent video. Quick question, step 2 how different is it from sumos 1, as I saw reviews saying if you give step2 immediately after 1 , 2 months is ok. can yo7 give me your opinion kindly.
It really depends on each person's knowledge and dedication through those 2 months. I don't think anyone can say for sure for someone else that you'll be ready or not by 2 months. Step 2 ck is very clinical. Step 1 knowledge will help you tons for step 2 ck but not on the management part. You'll have to take time to learn those. I hope this answer helps! :)
If you were approved for Pathway 6 this year, does it extend to the next year? Also, do you have any info on when they might announce the Pathways rules for the Match2023? Thanks and good luck. P.S. I am currently collecting the med school documents (more frustrating than it sounds), hoping to take the Steps in the Spring/Summer and participate in Match2023.
Yup! My Pathway 6 will be valid until next year's Match cycle. As for rules for Match 2023, I'm not so sure when they will be posted. Yes, collecting documents can be pain in the ass especially if your school isn't so aware of all these. I wish you all the best tho on your exams and your journey!! 🤗
hello! I don't know if you will read this but I'm hoping you could give me an answer. Do you think it's possible to give both steps before the next match cycle if I start prep in Jan? I need someone to tell me realistically
Hi! It really depends on how much foundation you have and how long it will take you to clear each exam. If you have some good foundation to start from and you're quick to learn, then it might be more than possible for you to clear both exams by the next match cycle. But if it takes you longer then it might be challenging. It also depends on how fast you can get to schedule your exam and the availability of it at the time of your application. Hope this helps! :)
