I am glad you are pointing out that too wide is not a good thing. I have a 24 Pro - same engine as the 26, fits anywhere and cuts through heavy, wet stuff faster with less bogging.
It's tough not to love Ariens. I have a 23 year old 6-24. We live in Erie, Pa, so we move a lot of snow most years. This old girl has always started and moved lots of snow (although when it's cold, I have to use the electric start - won't catch with the recoil). I had to replace the electric start maybe 8 years ago, and we sanded, scraped and painted it this past summer (I thought about sandblasting and going the whole nine yards but didn't). We finally changed the belts and friction disc (after 22 years!) and added heated handgrips (thank god, but had to disconnect the light - not enough amps for both) and the old thing will probably run another 20 years.....
Just a thought, have you ever removed your recoil assembly and lubricated the "dogs" that fly out to engage the engine when you pull the starter rope? I had to do that to my older (1985) ST824 back in the day because they would eventually gum up and not want to flip out and engage the shaft. After a good cleaning and lubricating they were right back to working well.
Another great video. My personal machine is a 2013 Ariens Pro 28. The duel belt auger pully set up is the best update Ariens had made on their machines about 15 years ago. My machine is still running its original belts. I also have a small snow removal business currently running a 2004 pro 32, 2018 pro 32, and 2022 Kraken to operate it. The '04 pro 32 would eat 2 belts a year because of it's single pully set up. The 2018 and the Kraken are also still on the original belts.
Thank you, sir! I started watching your channel this winter & I have learned A LOT. I have this similar snow thrower (Ariens 926LE) it is 20+ yrs old BUT it is still in GREAT SHAPE. @GarageGear Great video, just picked up your rust-proofing ebook and looking forward to putting it into action! Would love to hear some thoughts on comparing the 24” Platinum SHO (carb) to the Pro 28 - about $800 difference (and a lot of weight). I’ll have to see if I can get my paws on a Platinum. Either way they would be a good machine because they both have strong engines. Enjoy the ebook. You’ll have to let me know how it works and which blower you choose.
@@GarageGear a quick follow up question. Do you find the Pro 28 to be pretty manageable weight-wise? It comes in at a whopping 340lbs! 70lbs more than the Platinum 24 (50lbs more than the 30”). JB, I noticed something interesting about these larger AX engines - the ones with a carburator, not the EFI ones. When you throttled it up, it seemed like there's "idle" speed, and "full RPMs" ... and nothing in between. Does that accurately describe what I saw/heard? This year, I got a new Platinum SHO 24 (369cc), and that's precisely what mine does. It's either idling, or it's FULL ON. There aren't any middling RPM speeds in between, despite the fact the dial can be moved throughout a range that's almost a quarter turn. I'd read somewhere that this is normal, and just how these engines work... but dang, does that ever seem weird to me. What do you think?
I’ve got the exact same machine. Currently doing rust proofing as per JB’s instructions. Also greasing shafts, sprockets and chains. I’ve read/seen problems with the type of steel used on newer models (cheep steel that is) compared to years past. My unit has 6 hours from last season. I’ll report what I see/find once the belly pan is open.
@@apexiumim2741 Cool, I look forward to hearing what you find. I'd heard about the rust issues on the Platinum SHO as well... although they seem to be limited in scope. I guess we won't know, until we know. Do you have any feedback to offer on my range-of-RPMs question above? Does yours run at any speeds between idle and max RPMs?
@@floobertuber I’ll let you know when I run the unit next. I bought it in June from a super nice guy with a not so good situation. It’s essentially brand new with 6 hours run time. I’ll let you know about RPM findings. Cheers!

First snowblower review I’ve ever seen done..,in the summer. 😂
I actually filmed this in November. Lol
I have a 30 inch show also with a 420cc beast .
Thanks for sharing
They need to have the composite shoes standard.
That would be good. Thanks for watching, Chuck!
Especially in reverse, there needs to be a safety release.
You don't want to fall & have a machine run over you.
Thanks for watching
The Chute Operation could be Smoother
💯agree
Where's the link for the replacement skids, I missed it...
Hey bear! The website link is in the video description! 👍
@@GarageGear looking again...
FOUND IT. THANK You!
Now, el niño says don't buy them this year.
Shrug. 🤷♂️
@@324bear you’ll be happy you did lol
Video title says "(Better Than A 32"?)" So do you recommend the 28" vs the 32"? They seem identical specs except a few hundred dollars more for 4 inch wider runs.
Hey Peter! Either one is a great machine. Both throw about the same but the 32 can definitely inhale more snow. That’s really the biggest difference!
Just curious if you know what brand of engine this 420cc is & where it's made.
Ariens ax engines are designed in the us and built in china
@@GarageGear Thanks. I was concerned about my Chinese built 342CC Briggs when I bought it 10 years ago, but it's been a real workhorse and has never used any oil.
@@jonhansen4745 thanks for sharing. That’s good to know.
Ariens AX engines are made by LCT, which is the remnants of Tecumseh. So yeah, American company building overseas.
Epic review JB. I love Ariens snowblowers 👍🙏👍🙏have a bless weekend
Hey Ray! Appreciate the positive feedback once again bud! We really geek out on ariens here! Lots to enjoy about them! Have a bless weekend as well my friend!
What do you think about the Ariens rapidtrack sho 28 platinium with the 369cc engine?
@@thomascaron9511 great snowblower! Do you have rough terrain or a driveway to clear?
@@GarageGear My driveway is big and kind of steep. I live in canada, so we got a lot of snow. I have a deluxe 24, but i won't more power. I'm trying to gain in speed to clear that.
Thanks for your response.
@@thomascaron9511 got it! The tracks will help with steepness! If it would help I’d go for it!
Those ArmorSkids… what material are they made from? Steel?
It’s got to be some kind of hardened steel because those things barely wear. Mine are several years old and still look the same! Crazy! Get the heavy duty commercial ones. Those last!
@@GarageGear
I’ve gotta give them a call, not sure if they ship to Canada. Also, need to know which ones to get for my Platinum SHO. Would spacers or washers be required since there’s a factory bend on each end of the bucket?
@@apexiumim2741 didn’t put any spacers on mine. Fit perfectly!
If ur interested:
If u want to do a better video review than I just uploaded yesterday of my brand new Ariens Kraken 32' Rapid Track... Ur more than welcome to do a before, during (when/if possible) & after snowfall review. I'm not interested in anything besides getting a video out there of this model that I personally have not found on RUclips yet. At least a better one than the one I posted yesterday on my channel, posted Nov 4, 2023. I tried to comment this offer yesterday but I'm not sure if I forgot to send it or if it was deleted.
Great snowblower Scott! Where abouts are you from?
@@GarageGear I'm off South Park walking distance from the Basilica and Botanical Gardens. I mow Wayside if that's another good hint.

@@GarageGearIts going to be clean for so long lol. At least ur aware someone has one when/if the chance comes. I literally just bought the Armor Skids w/Spacers that u suggested (TY), so it's already being modified as soon as I get them lol.
@@ScottWhalen81 ROCK ON my friend! 👍
@@floobertuber
I’ll let you know when I run the unit next. I bought it in June from a super nice guy with a not so good situation. It’s essentially brand new with 6 hours run time.
I’ll let you know about RPM findings. Cheers!
@@apexiumim2741 Sounds good, thank you!
Hey floober these LCT engines have two speed settings. High throttle and a low noise low end. See the picture I have linked movingsnow.com/2013/makes-ariens-ax-engine/amp/ 👍
Do you have any videos on the Kraken?
Unfortunately, I do not have any videos on that.
I have a pro 28 from 5 years ago that I can’t get started
Check you’re carb! Most likely needs a cleaning!
Keepin' it real, are you and your neighbor gonna have snowblowing contests with your new toys?😂

Holy smokes, that's a big blower. I've owned cars that were smaller than that thing...

It’s gotta be easy to make this attachment I think
@@l.b.7543 I thought you meant the blower
@bc454irocz89
It is not my snow blower - but it is just rotting away in their yard without a cover or anything
Easy too steer,oh! I missed the turn section .
Definitely easy to steer
Glad I bought my pro 28 in 2018, these new ones look wayyyy lower quality, and ariens clearly cut some corners
Thanks for watching
How so? They beefed up the handlebars, added an LED light, and put an arguably better LCT engine on it, albeit with a smaller gas tank. Other than minor changes in colors and stickers, the rest looks the same to me.
ARIENS is the best......no question
but i'm wondering why any snow blower in the world would have 6 speeds
absolutely unnecessary!!
That’s a lot of gears lol
Ariens are great but the best 2 stage snow blower is the electric ego 28 inch 2 stage snow blower. I hope you review it

where's the engine made? i thought this was a chinese made engine...?
AX engines are built by LCT. They are an American company, but their manufacturing facilities are in China.
Run Seafoam and drain carb and tank at end of season. My made in China Toro engine is the best engine I have owned.
Floober is correct! I’m going to dig a little deeper here to see if there is anymore information to share with the community!
