Congrats on the speaker. It makes sense what they did. I never liked high gloss finishes after I had a speaker with a real wood veneer. Considering this is all walnut it's utterly drop dead gorgeous. Completely worth every penny and more

I'm with you on glossy and piano lacquer finished speakers. Pure kitsch!
      I love natural satin/oiled
      wood in furniture and instruments
REL put out a vid explaining the reason: they can't produce wood finishes that match all the variations of (cherry for instance) wood stains:-/
Kind of silly for a sub that's supposed to be hidden in the corners anyway!
I waited until the LS50s came out in flat black with black drivers...and I built oak frames for the LRS

Love seeing your excitement when talking about these beautiful speakers. How speakers look matters to me. You could tell me that a speaker was developed by a massive collaboration between the worlds top audio engineers and they have discovered the gold standard of sound, but if it's ugly I don't want it, lol! I've had ugly speakers and that's how I found out how much the appearance means to my enjoyment. I really love the design of SF speakers and all that I've had a chance to hear sounded wonderful as well!

  • @nickburak7518

Very nice, Jay. I encourage you to keep up with the way you explain the soundstage and imaging. Few (if any) do. It helps. And yes, these are absolutely perfect-looking speakers for any class. Solid walnut and leather front AND back - how can you improve on that? The panel sculpting is clean and simple. The crossover is not only something of high quality but it's - finally - beautifully displayed. We need more exposed crossovers. They are beautifully simple - looking speakers. Of course, system matching is my question.

I agreed everything you said in the review. Few weeks ago I AB tested the Maxima and Electa Amator in the dealer’s listening room for two hours. My final conclusion was that the Maxima was more accurate than the Electa with smoother high and deeper bass. However, Electa was actually more fun to listen to in my personal taste. It had more exciting high and fuller “mid” bass. The dealer also suggested me adding a SF Gravis 3 sub to the Electa (or Minimum) to make it even more exciting. In the end, I think SF has made some modifications to the Amator sound in the Maxima to make it a neutral sounding speakers. But is it more fun to listen to? It depends on one’s tastes. I fully understand why you decide to buy both speakers because they don’t sound alike! :-)

Before I decide to buy them I brought my amplifier at the store(Luxman L509x) in order to try them. The sound with the Luxman was even more impressive and also the employees of the store they like better the sound than with Mcintosh. After 1 hour of listening I realize that on some songs with more bass, when you increase the volume on the Luxman to 10;30 max 11;00 O"clock the speakers membranes of Bass start to crackle and the sound become distorted .I am very disappointed but also the employees know the problem of this model of speakers.I Listen also Olympica nova 3 but maxima amateur are speakers in different league. Hey Jay,
be very careful when moving the speakers, the marble is very prone to breaking.
    With Dartzeel they sound faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic.

Hey great video! You once compared the electa Amador III with the css 1tdx....would like to see if the 2tdx is close to maxima....also try the pearl acoustics sibelius speakers. Thomas &Stereo liked them a lot both css and pearl, just a idea for some next videos. Did you try the maxima with the holo may? Or with some PASS LABS.? Keep up the good work!!!

Great choice in speakers. I’ve always loved the SF sound. Very musical. What brand are the quadratic diffusers on your front wall? I don’t see them on the ua acoustic site

Jay how many Subs are in the room now? Those 7 or 9's and is that a .5?Anyway the SF's look great. You have been through some nice speakers as of late Tribes,Gershman's etc so this must be pretty nice.Am hoping at some point you might get Reference 3A from Canada (show the flag right?) and maybe some horn or open baffle like Avantgarde or Pure Audio Project/Spatial.Just saw new $10K Nola Champion and that brand always sounded good at shows.Devore's ?Last the Vandersteen Treo or Quattro CT's are perennial faves.Always dig what you do come up with and look forward to these or whatever you select

Are they more fatiguing than Klipsch RP-8000F, more sharp/in-your-face details, or the details are more delicate and relaxed in comparison? Or compared to KEF LS50 Meta? I'm talking about tonality/frequencies, nothing else, I know they are in different tiers.

Jay, the floor standing Maxima Amador is my favorite speaker of all time ( did not listen to Harbeth 5 HLPlus or 40's). How does the Maxima Amador compare to the discontinued Olympics ii or iii s. which are warmer than the more neutral Olympics Novas ii or ii which was not near as musical or with smooth stunning mid range as Max Amador?

Great review! How do they compare in imaging and soundstage vs a coaxial speaker such as Kef LS50? In general, beside bass, how would you compare them to an Amati tradition or a Focal Sopra 2?

Sonus faber are awesome speakers. Every time I listened tho, they did have a slight bump in the mid bass.
    Do those have that bump?
    They look lovely.
    Enjoy in good health Jay!
Addendum. Just watched all the vid and you answer about the mid bass.

I have only heard the book self. To my head it has a slight mid bass pump and a slight dip at 2000k (guessing here). Slight rise in the upper treble.

Very interesting review. Would you say that this speaker as refined and textured as it is, still "kicks you in the nuts"? I'm looking for a speaker that is able to deliver punchy tight bass, neutral mids and defined highs that aren't fatiguing. I listened to a McIntosh MA12000 integrated amp with Wilson Audio and then with Sonus Faber and was truly blown away so much that I bought the amp. Unfortunately my Kef R11 speakers can't deliver like the Wilson and the SF did. I guess this new SF heritage is worth a demo.

A $15,000 integrated amplifier to power a single tiny woofer and hoping it “kicks you in the nuts” doesn’t make logical sense.
