This is how we all got along together. Laughing and joking with each other, stereotyping knowing that it's all in fun. No hatred and racism. In the end we are all family and friends helping each other. No stress hea!!
Mahalo for your comments, Sterling. I used to go to Frank Delimaʻs shows in Waikiki with friends in my college days and saw him many times later in schools and at special events, and we always had a good time, laughing at his jokes and impersonations, and when he poked fun at the people in the audience. We recognized people or situations in his act and understood the jokes based on ethnicity and stereotyping, and no one took offense. However, when people, especially from the mainland, started criticizing him and other local comedians for being racist or wanted them to "analyze" the appropriateness of ethnic jokes and stereotyping, they just didnʻt get it and things became uncomfortable. People who are too politically correct just donʻt understand local humor and why we can laugh at ourselves and each other and still get along.
Back in 87 yes 1987 i saw him at the Sand villa hotel of ALa wai had a small gig place downstairs ...dint know much about Hawaiian culture then but i came every night to listen to Frank was so funny ...thank you
Yes, Frank DeLima was at the Noodle Shop at the Sand Villa Hotel for years. You can find some of his popular characters from his shows on RUclips (taken from his DVDs).
Elaine, are you a subscriber to my RUclips channel Jody Y? You can do a search of the almost 2000 (mostly Hawaiian music) videos to enjoy more of your favorites.
I discovered Frank Delima many, many years ago, one evening, when I came across one of his famous joke books at the magazine section in Long's. I also had to be literally dragged out of Long's by one of my sisterd because I ended up BURSTING into tears from laughing so hard at one of his jokes (the one about Manuel telling Juaquin to "look at that dead bird" joke 😄) Much mahalo nui loa to uncle Frank for his amazing sense of humor 😂🤣😆
With all the SJW PC ridiculousness here on the mainland these days, I come to videos like this to find my fond childhood memories, and remember a time and place when we could all laugh at ourselves and at each other in good fun, and with no malice. Humor forces all the self-importance, arrogance and defensiveness out of the room. You have to laugh at how strange a species we are, and remember to enjoy the ride.
I miss this about Hawaii living in Las Vegas for a long time.Nobody got offended by all the ethnic jokes about each other. Here the Blacks a.k.a. Poplos always take offense all the time and play the race card. The Mexicans sometimes the same way, even my Mexican American girlfreind gets pissed at me even though she was not born in Mexico.Hey im original i was born in the Philippines but love the Filipino jokes.Aloha everybody!!!
Plenty haoles in Las Vegas, that's why. I get pissed off at the haoles that come to Hawaii on vacation, they act like they own the place and make like everyone's their servant.
FPSGHoST808 Funny huh Cuz?Over here the Haoles no bother me.They like me better than the Mexicans and Popolos.Me when i was back home in Honolulu most of the Haoles i know were Kamaainas and go surfing with the Locals and have Local Wahines.I miss home but im up here where i no pay state tax in Vegas.Over here like i said they saty cool with me.They no like see the Kalihi side of me.Aloha Bradda!
They call it 'hospitality' for a reason. I use to work housekeeping down Kailua-Kona... never had anyone treat me like I was less than. .. well one guy offered us 25 CENTS if we carry his bags to the 3rd floor.. we wen LAUGH !! lol but he wasn't mad.. we wen help him anyway hahaha
They’re the self haters bro. The reason everyone is afraid of joking with anyone. I miss this kind of fun. I lived in Hawaii and we made fun of each other JUST BECAUSE IT WAS FUNNY.
No shit one kid would have the record, yes a record you played on a record player, and we'd memorize all the routines. One time my mom said, "You kids know all the words to 'Faith Yanagi' but you don't remember to do the housework!!".
That's my friend playing the guitar behind him, Mr. Nashida from our high school days in Okinawa, Japan back in the the 1960's. Aloha my friend. Lots of laughs.
Frank De Lima is not involved with this RUclips channel.I just recorded shows. If you want to see what he's up to or contact him, please go to his website at www.frankdelima.com/
Lol and I shook Billy Kenoi's hand when I worked at Vintage Cave BEFORE all those scandals came out and I was watching the news going omg I shook his hand! And thinking what if he used the government money to pay for that dinner lol
Uncle Frank can crack jokes about how Hawaii came to be through the generations from our monarchy to the annexing by America from England.. to imprisonment of our royalties the Kamehahas
If you lived in Hawaiʻi, there'd be a lot of jokes about your name because "ur" or "er" is usually pronounced "a" in Hawaiian and many other languages, including our local Pidgin.😀
+Cris-Audrey Taclay Frank is really good at imitating different languages and accents, so it sounds like he is very fluent in a language, while actually he may just know some words and phrases and he is imitating the way his neighbors or people in the community spoke when he grew up in Hawai'i.
When I moved to the mainland, folks there didn't appreciate the local style ethnic jokes, so be careful. Btw, he forgot to mention Mexicans and Koreans.
Filipino old man gave him so many deserts and food as a sign of respect but he turned it around and made fun of the Filipino people this guy is a disgrace 😡
My mom heard him sing in Japanese..she approved his singing..she's 110% Japanese :)
This is how we all got along together. Laughing and joking with each other, stereotyping knowing that it's all in fun. No hatred and racism. In the end we are all family and friends helping each other. No stress hea!!
Forgot to say thank you Jody for a memorable event.

Saw him back in the 90s in San Francisco. Funny guy. He nailed the Filipino Northern Accents missed Hawaii. Thanks Frank, Mabuhay 🇺🇸🇵🇭
OMG!!! I so love this!!! Missing Hawaii big time!
Hawaii is politically incorrect and damn proud of it! Which is to say, we don't take ourselves too seriously. Frank De Lima's humor reflects that.
We were the first minority-majority state in the US. Only 10% White, mostly Asian and Polynesian! It’s WONDERFUL!
that northern filipino accent is spot on
Great storyteller!
