That place is amazing! Mazinger was also my first introduction to giant robots when the Shoguns hit America in the 70s! I think "Machinder Robo" is one name they've gone by. Not sure if it's the same you're thinking of. Thanks for sharing this trip!
Yeah, something straight out of a fantasy haha. The owner told me it's an overflow of his collection, and that's he's the #1 collector when it comes to Go Nagai stuff. You helped me remember the term actually, it was Shogun Warriors! Thx for that :D
Some of that stuff I think might be customs. Unless there's some kind of licensing deal to make things like the Hellboy and Dragon Ball crossover figures official. I think they're custom made though. Also I'm noticing some details about the shop itself which kind of looks like that place use to be a dinner before it was a toy store. The kind of rounded display case in the back is a pretty specific style I typically see in restaurants for displaying baked goods. There's some other decorations around the walls that seem like left overs from like a 50's style dinner. They really just took over the place and went no, we don't want to run a restaurant, this is a toy store now.
Yeah I found out that the customized ones are from a famous artist who does a series of those on the same base figure. Kinda like what Bearbrick does. And you a have a good eye. The owner owns 30 restaurants and decided to convert one his small diners into this place. It's an overflow of his actual collection and he just keeps the shop running as a store/museum for funsies.
Yeah, straight up fantasy land haha. Actually I didnt buy anything XD I almost exclusively buy just TFs now. And that Mazinger in the front door is huge!!! I never knew one that big existed lol. This place really was incredible. Got to meet the owner and he was truly a collectors collector. Was geekin out hard telling me all about his collection (translated by my wife and her friend tho lol).
@@BotBenderOrinj aww thats awesome!!!! yeah I know same with me. I used to only collect Chogokin in the early days of Soc. last one Chogokin i got was danguard. and I stopped collecting for a while until combiner wars slowly got me in. and then Titan return i went all in after that
That's wild, reminds me of a place I visited in Toronto about 20 years ago. Two floors, although I think the whole upper level was board games. Some of the toys in this place looked absolutely cursed, but as a whole it's a real esthetic.
Astro boy for dayyys!!! What did you say his name was overseas? This place looks so nice just to walk around and look at stuff lol I guess like a museum like you said. Tons of hellboys wow lol
The store is called Made by Joy. The owners IG is instagram.com/doublecofe/ and his wife who runs the shop with him is instagram.com/madebyjoy_toy/. Sh!t was lifechanging hahah
