In this recording I used the 4th harmonic pedal in resonance position only. The harmonic pedal was invented by Denis de La Rochefordière.

One of my favorite preludes in WTC. Puts me in the state of being of water.
As it just is with love, the first true love will stay the only true love forever. Its is like this with Bach for me. Everytime i get back to his music i am just feeling something else
Every time I listen to Bach, I just can't help but marvel at the sheer genius of his mind. You play it with skill, and thanks for sharing your talents with us.
c' est pour moi la musique la plus belle. Il était doté d' une inspiration inégalée.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I love this prelude and fugue very much~ (One of my favourite P&F in the two WTC books)
0:09 Prelude
2:04 Fugue
Bach, one composer that is just delightful to play overall. I can tell you're having fun just through your hands. :)
YES, arguably my favorite in the entire WTC, thank you Paul Barton for this interesting interpretation!
Amazing!!. One of my favorites from the WTC Book 2.
Beautiful. Such a wonderful prelude. The more I think about the Harmonic Pedal, the more I think it makes a lot more sense than the Sostenuto Pedal......
a piece of music Thank you so much. It's so good to hear each song.
음악 한 곡 정말 감사합니다. 모든 노래를 들을 수 있어서 너무 좋아요.
This is beautiful and relaxing!
You have something very special Mr. Paul
Bravo!!! I love it!❤ 👏👏👏
Wie viel Ruh und Friede, dass ist wie ein ruhiges Fluss Wasser, Das gefällt mir!
BRAVO, I'm in love with your consistency and clarity on your rhythms and ornaments. THANK YOU!
Paul, Youre honestly great inspiration to a fellow piano player. Just seeing how your hands move under the pieces you play help give me great insight on what ive been looking for. Just starting out piano at 18 y/o is a daunting task, but i make efforts for at least 2 hours a day to start to perfect myself not only techincally, but musically as well. A shame i didnt start piano when i had the chance almost 10 years ago, but better now than never🤷🏾♂️. 5 stars for you Paul.❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️
Amazing!
Paul you are amazing.
what a wonderful prelude.thnks a lot
That harmony at beginning sounds very similarly to prelude in D-major from WTC1
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ rocking that wrist band!
Wow! Your interpretation is both stylistically sound and very fun to listen to. I could almost hear the clavichord :)
Beautiful, thank you. Since watching your videos, I am converted to the concept of the Harmonic Pedal. Somewhat the opposite of the Sostenuto pedal, to my (uneducated) mind, it makes more sense and seems much more readily useful, than the Sostenuto pedal.
EXCELLENT!!!!!
It is wonderful!
Hey, Tritone: If you're still at it ( the piano, I mean ). Lots give up prematurely. Practice all the keys, scales, both hands, parallel motion. Then, contrary motion. Every day, all of them. Then, in chords, same way in opposite, hands: solid chords and broken. Afterwards you'll have no trouble playing in any key. Your fingers will know what your mind has drilled into them. But, especially the three versions of the minor keys: Natural, Harmonic and Melodic; check canceling the seventh when descending. The 7th raised ascending. Lowered descending. You'll get it.
Yess Paul. 👍
Bravo!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️🎹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Eu adorei.🎼💖🎶
Geiza. São Paulo. Brazil.🇧🇷
Hermoso. Gracias
After viewing this video, I've also started learning these Prelude and Fugue.
Thank you for sharing your interpretation and inspiring others to learn WTC!
Incredible music. Bach is C-sharp majors' best friend!
Ma favorite❤
Wooooowww anything i might say cannot express! I throw myself on the mercy of the court.
Hi, i love Bach and you play him very well! Thank you.
Do you know Alfred Schnittke??😀
Bach prelude and fugue 6 book 2 please
The key signature is giving me anxiety.
tri it is easy to panic I used to do the same ..... sit down learn the scale to the absolute degree then perhaps, you might find out how easy it actually is.
seeing a key signature like that should only provide more motivation for you to do it
Actually C sharp is not a hard key to master
I think C sharp is easier to handle than B.
Literally it should just be d flat major
Wowww ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
excellent performance. I like how you play almost every 8th note with very sharp staccato, definitely what Bach intended. too many performers of Bach nowadays legato every note as if they were pedalling a romantic era piece
Does someone know the story of the source from this prelude? There are like 3-4 slighty different versions of it, it looks like every single copyst made up a personal interpretation of what seen in manuscript...
Stefano Paparozzi your best bet is to find an urtext edition (i.e. Henle) which takes directly from the manuscript
Jack, I found it! Just search "Andreas Bach Book" on Google, you'll find it.
And the B is flat as in the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe versione used in this video. :)
I wonder how Bach would sound mixed with left hand on left ear and right hand on right ear.
Like having two people saying different words on each of your ears ...
#PersonnalitySplitting
Nice, but I d highlight the first and third beat of the LH and the second and forth beat of the RH more.
Haa you played the second figuration in the 12th bar with your 2nd instead of as written the 3rd finger. Cool 😎
Very beautiful ! But on bar 24 (1:31) of the prelude, you play a g natural instead of a g sharp. It’s a small mistake but it totally changes the tension of the end of the phrase (g sharp to f double sharp) and the harmonic atmosphere. Looking forward to hearing the other 2nd book’s pieces !
why would someone critique on a youtube comment, like you found a single mistake , congratulations. It just sounds ill intended. "Yeah youre a decent player, but you made a mistake there"
InTheNameOfFate Everyone makes mistakes. The best pianists in the world make mistakes. My point is that some of them are more important than others and you should point out the ones which can directly affect your hearing and vision of a piece. Never intended my remark in a negative way, unlike you.
E Rautavaara I haven’t seen that video but there are sometimes variation from edition to edition. These pieces were first published more than 50 years after Bach’s death. Early copies were written longhand, often by his students, copied from the original.
I agree, this changes the tension. I'm used to the Glenn Gould recording (g sharp like in the score of this video) and this recording here immediately sounded different.
I agree - it's not nitpicking - perhaps the pianist was using a "Sonder-Edition" (yet the accompanying score suggests otherwise). This piece works with carryover harmonic tones and the g-sharp makes more sense.
Played this piece on my final exam :)
3:35 Poh poh poh Phaaaa
This is melancholy
How do you begin to comprehend this key signature, with all the double sharps and whatnot! I'm still on row row row your boat. ;-)
you just think of the notes as other notes, you see g double sharps as a's and such
The prelude and fugue number III from Das wohltemperierte Klavier is written in C sharp (seven sharps) but is also often published in D flat (five flats). In terms of sound, this makes no difference due to the equal temperament.
@Tritone: More, specifically in A Minor, book one; the Fugue!!! Try to handle it up to speed, like Mr. Gould. It will kick your butt. Even Richter doesn't play it that fast. And it should be played THAT FAST. Gnarly as it is to handle, it's the only way you'll feel rewarded after its learned.
🎹👍🏻
Listen the prelude on speed x1.5 like “Scott Ross recording”... so funny!! 🙌🏻
on peut tout simplement aussi l' écouter par Glenn Gould, surtout ceux qui connaissent pas.
sounds like brahm's exercices
This is Prélude, Allegro and Fugue in C sharp major
Prélude 0:09
Allegro 1:34
Fugue 2:04
0:32 I'm not hearing what I'm seeing (left hand). What's up?
Wow, a piece with a 7 accidentals key.
I'm attempting to figure out why anyone would ever write this not as 5 flats. There Must be a reason..
John Locke c sharp major!
There are some even in B# major or Cb major, or 128/4 as time signature said by my teacher😂, but I forgot which pieces are them
Ocean Chopin Cheung ravel’a third miroir (une barque sur l’ocean) has a 62 / 84 time signature I’m pretty sure lol
Ocean Chopin Cheung Agreed! There are many enharmonic variants of each note! F sharp minor could be written as g flat major.
Fuge: 2:04
Oml i got a new simply piano ad
There is a mistake at 0:36. The G is a double sharp, but you played it as G#.
0:31 It’s #E not #D
0:37 It’s double-sharp G not #G
Apt..... Ironic
It sounds like something out of a Pokemon game.
Master of Violin: Brett Yang and Eddy Chen
Master of Guitar: Herman Li
Master of Bass Guitar: Davie504
Master of Piano: Paul Barton
Just because twoset has a violin in their name doesn't make them the master of the violin.
Love your work Paul. Question as I'm learning it too. In bar 8, 4th beat, you play a G# but there was a G ## (double sharp) at start of the bar? There is no natural symbol or natural with a sharp courtesy symbol. I had a listen to Andras Schiff's recording and I think he plays the G##. Usually wouldn't comment but every note is so important with Bach. He knew what he wanted
The G#(#) is just functioning as an ornament on the A#. So whether you play it G## or G# the harmony and voice leading remain essentially unchanged.
7 sharps is a glutton for punishment
Play it on Clavıer or Harpsıchord!
Why when we have the better instrument now - piano
@@aoristt you would never get Baroque with piano
Bravo!!! I love it!❤ 👏👏👏
