One thing to note about the Komet: Despite having such a short burst of thrust from the rocket, it was an exceptional glider, to the point that it could actually outmaneuver the best allied fighters at the time without any power! However, it was a double edged sword. You only had one chance to land it, cuz if you missed the runway you were unlikely to get a second chance to fly around again. Also, it had a system that I can only really call a "sensor-activated shotgun" = Basically, a bunch of cannons were installed in the back facing upwards, and a sensor was attached to the triggers. The idea was that it would fly under a bomber, with the bomber triggering the sensor and pulling the triggers, sending like 8 cannons blasting into the bomber and ripping it apart.
50:58 Ejection seats actually were a thing, iirc they were invented for the P-38 Lightning because before that if you bailed out you’d probably get sliced in half by the rear elevator. Also you should definitely do an SCP out of the Komet.
The B36 was not the buried nuke incident. The B36 had 2 broken arrow incidents, but neither had the plutonium core installed in the 1st stage, so nuclear detonation was impossible. The bombs in both incidents did trigger, resulting in the conventional explosives detonating. The New Mexico incident spread nuclear material over the area from the 2nd stage, which contains U238 and some P239 The story about the buried nuke was a B52G, and much worse. Two were dropped in that incident. Upon inspection and disarming, it was found that for the bomb that didn't bury itself, all but one of the arming mechanisms didn't arm. However, it only take 28 volts across that mechanism to arm it and in 30 previous inspections of other bombs, that mechanism was found to be armed inadvertently. So basically luck prevented a 3.8 megaton thermonuclear detonation. The buried bomb was initially scarier because the same mechanism was found to be armed, which would mean that the parachute malfunctioning ment the arming sequence didn't have enough time to complete as it takes about 42 seconds from being dropped to fully arm. The bomb fell for 12 to 15 seconds. However, later analysis of the arming mechanism showed that the arm indicator on the mechanism was likely a result of the impact and not the mechanism actually arming. The electrical circuit was still found to be in the safe configuration.
That’s an understatement! It was made to rival a Soviet super jet, which turned out to not be nearly as good as they thought (Foxbat). So it was THE most capable fighter jet in the world when it came out.
I really love YOUR engineering vids……..the others Ive watched tonight, while also funny, didnt have enough educational value compared to yours. Pls do more!
There ARE 2 missing nukes in USA, one on land, really went deep, and not sure if it was ever actually fully dug out, oddly………then one off the coast of South Carolina(?) never been found.
I desperately needed the full version of this plane rant
And it needed you.

apparently said shotgun had a habit of going off if you flew into the shade of a cloud.
This video should cost more than a $1 membership, it’s fantastic

F-15s go fucking hard.

THANK YOU SO MUCH
for the highlight i would say: 8:59 and 13:37
Thank you!
Damn, these are free now?
These will be made available to members one week before the main channel upload goes live. Once the video drops, these will become available as well
@@sirswagacademy thanks for the info ❤️
