  • This is always how the doors videos happen... I get a random comment suggesting a song and I just take the jump. WOW. I have NEVER heard this side of them. I didn't know they could do the blues like this. But silly me for doubting one of the greatest bands of all time. This was fantastic. What a cool sound they had here.

When I was visiting my brother in San Francisco WAY back, one morning about 5:45 A.M. I awoke to this tune blasting through his flat. When I found him dancing around the living room, he was drinkin' a beer and smokin' a joint. I asked him what he was doing, and he said "I called work and told 'em 'I'm sick', so it's time to go have some fun." So I said, gimme a hit off that number and went to get a beer. Three days later, we staggered back into his flat. To this day, this is one of my all-time faves. Thanks man!

The roadhouse that inspired this song was the Topanga Corral, a windowless nightclub in the counterculture enclave of the Topanga Canyon, where Jim Morrison lived. He used to sing
to his girlfriend when she was driving, "Keep your eyes on the road, and your hands on the wheel," and he incorporated it into the song.

The Corral was a kick ass place to go to see live music. Saw the Eagles and Neil Young with Crazy Horse there. Joni Mitchell was also scheduled, but she followed the Eagles and the crowd wouldn’t quiet down so she walked off the stage.

Yeah growing up in the valley my friends and I used to drive down Topanga Canyon all the time and often stopped at the ole store, we saw Jim and Pam there once and another time Linda Ronstadt and a few others. We would always leave them alone, as you "don't fan all over famous people'" in LA county, it's just a 'given" because they were all over the valley and LA just "hanging around" and living their lives.. If you didn't fan all over them they would often chat with you. Those are such good memories I have growing up in Los Angeles county and meeting so many famous people.

Hyacinth House is a fantastic song off L.A. Woman that seems like a natural to react to next. Very personal lyrics by Morrison that drip with emotion. He realizes that he's gathered some unsavory friends due to his various addictions, and needs somebody new. A beautiful piano solo by Ray Manzarek (who wrote the music) that incorporates some Frederic Chopin. You'll love this song.

Opening track from the hugely underrated Morrison Hotel album. It almost seems to get forgotten compared to L.A Woman, Strange Days, and the debut, but in my opinion - track for track - it's every bit as good as those 3, if not better. My personal favourite Doors album, with nothing close to a weak track on it.

If the rest of the album is as good as this, I'm there lol let's do it.

@L33Reacts it's a beauty. It isn't all bluesy rock and roll like this one (although it has its fair share) but the standard is consistently high all the way through. You'll love it.
