Good share .. FYR, I have same laser unit but only 500 mW compare with your 5.5 W Laser unit. However, my green goggles is exactly same as your. I believe the OD (Optical Density protection) of the green goggles may not be higher enough to protect your eyes since your unit power is 5.5W. You might consider to get other more safety goggles.

Roger when engraving or cutting paper and cardboard put a sheet of glass on top of your work, it works through the glass and stops the fumes and smoke as they become residue on the glass which you can clean off, also I set the laser 50mm from the workpiece and then adjust the focus as this seems to work better, regards RobUK
ps I 3D printed a 50mm square block to put on the work and then let the laser go down onto the block and then tighten it up.

Many thanks Roger. I have just purchased the same unit and was struggling setting it up. I have checked a number of youtube videos but none came up to yours. A very clear and concise explanation giving me the confidence to start my first project. Cheers.

Nice work Roger! I use Lightburn software to control the laser and it is very easy to use. My main use is to engrave my signature and other information on my custom built furniture and turnings.

I have same setup, also use lightburn, my laser been able to do letter and black white image(tree of life) no problems, but the photographs have really been tricky for me, looking forward to your next video on photo to laser, great idea about electric tape on spindle

Hi Roger got my new 5.5 watt laser kit today and the book that came with it said If you had a 3 axis machine you could enable the Z axis go to settings click on "jog control" and check on "show Z up/down control" and it works .just thought I would pass that along.

Thanks for sharing. Maybe you can you move it closer and increase the speed and the focus? A 5watt laser can barely cut through anything so high detail marking would be a relevant application. Or cutting paper which is not overly charred on the edges.

Instead of turning M3 S=0 you can just use M5 wich is stop spindle M3 is actually spindle start clockwise its not required to prep the machine for any commands regarding the spindle so you should be able to edit your "spindle speed" on the fly just by giving an s-command inside your mdi . Adding M3 is not required since the spindle is turning allready anyways=> N1 M5 ... that should do it 🤷🏻‍♂️ I enjoyed the video a lot and if you have any questions regarding manual G-code programming i do DIN-Pal professionally so maby i can help
    keep it up
