The drum-kit was invented in 1918. The electric amplifier (for guitars and organs) was invented in 1906. Aside from those 2 things, every instrument in the song existed in 1867 when Dio was born... it would have sounded very similar to John and Dio. The past isn't as far away as it feels. The pyramids were older to Cleopatra than Cleopatra is to us... the invention of the guitar was 100s of years older to Dio than Dio is to us. As a point of reference, the mask is an Aztec artifact... but the guitar was invented before Colombus was born, and the organ was invented around 200 years before Jesus was born. Those instruments would have been in (basically) their modern form for centuries before John and Dio were born. Just like us, they would have a hard time imagining a world/time without those instruments.
This is a wonderful rendition of a true prog rock classic! I would love to see and hear the Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School Marching Band perform this! Has anyone ever seen them? They must be the best marching band I've ever seen! Such exuberance and joy of performing!!
Thanks Doug! :) I'm a long time fan of Yes! Several years ago I created a program: "Symphonic Tribute to YES". The idea was not only to arrange the compositions "YES" for a symphony orchestra, but also to find my own place in this musical history!..
The Best Music Will Never Die ...
YES?
More like
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
YES!
This is what Jonathan and Joseph heard at the end of the episodes, since most of the instruments in the actual song didn't exist yet.
