- Our grand daughters, Olivia and Jacklyn jumped on stage along with Annie Guthrie, Sarah Lee & Johnny. Arlo stops the song to tell a story his dad Woody used to tell.
This was Abe's last night playing with Arlo after twenty years. (He'll be back in a couple of years) He is looking forward to working in the recording studio and being home with his family.
Filmed and produced by Jackie Guthrie Видеоклипы
I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with Arlo after a concert and talking with him for an hour or so. He came out of the dressing room long after the show had ended and a simple hello/autograph turned into an extended conversation about anything and everything. He is a true American original...tremendous wit and a very genuine and down to earth person.
This is America!Thanks!
Blessings to your whole family, and greetings from "this land is my land", Australia.
best version I've heared, woody would be proud
@dsmallwood2112
This was at the Guthrie Center. Johnny & Sarah Lee just pulled in after driving 14 hours from South Carolina and jumped onstage.
They have passed the talent down, I saw him on the tour and his daughter and Son in law were great too.
an american classic that embodies the highest ideals of what so many hope for in our nation. may it some day come to fruition.
This song is a great reminder.
Almost worship Woody and Arlo. soooooo creative
Arlo is great.
Arlo is a great entertainer with a universal message.
PRICELESS proud to have viewed this video on Woodys 100th birthday
This should indeed be our national anthem. With ALL of the original verses (including those which do not appear here) included.
How absolutely wonderful. Fantastic children and a remarkable artist.
More families should teach their children -0 at the age of your grandchildren - who Woody and Arlo are> Luv it!!!
what a great family, one can feel the love you have for each other. I was fortunate to see your show in houston recently.
Love you!
What a fantastically talented family!
Just love those kids. That was beautiful.
You are so missed and so loved, Jackie.
Simply awesome!
It is a great song isn't it? And what a great national anthem it would be -- celebrating the beauty and freedom of our land for all people.
Thanks for this ,Arlo
Love it, been playing my fiddle along with it all day!
In the square of the city
In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office
These are my People
And some are grumblin'
And some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.
What a great story!!
That is so wonderful! Thank you for posting it. Arlo is great as ever, and those little girls are just adorable!
This is priceless!!! LOVE IT!!!
What a sweet video!
Getting me psyched. I am going to see Arlo in Newberry, SC next month. I have lost track of how many shows of his I have attended. No better way to spend and evening! The entire family is a national treasure. Hope to make it up to the 'Garbage Walk' one year.
Take care.
I totaly agree with you Kimval34b that the song This land is your land should ought to be our national anthem, it is easy to sing to, easy to remember, people join in and sing This land is your land. It best describes our nation. I have told many people that This land is your land should be our national anthem, and have been telling this since 1975. I called my congressman up twice and suggested that THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND be made our national anthem as soon as possible.
When you think about it, don't you think it would be a better national anthem than AND THE ROCKET'S RED GLARE!!!!
This is so awesome love it ! ! ! Thanks for posting :-)
Beautiful :)
The song This land is your land should & ought to be the National Anthem of the United States, if our National Anthem were to the Woody Guthrie song This Land Is Your Land, it would be a greatr fitting tribute and honor to Woody Guthrie. The late Robert F. Kennedy Senior wanted to have This Land is Your Land be made our National Anthem back in 1968 when he was running for President. I have told people since 1975 the This Land is Your land should & ought to be our National Anthem.
Those girls are too cute. Do you think they've heard that song once or twice?
thanks so much...love it...peace...m________
Where was this Show, we saw this tour in Tacoma but I imagine he told the same story and the kids come out every night. It really was a good show
@UncleBob223
I agree with you! Not the war song we currently have.
Amen brother...............
I'm not American but this song makes me gladf they exist (a Limey).
Don't know if you got your answer, but arlo is woodies real son, i think born in NY but I know spent enough time in Stockbridge MA to call it home. You should really listen to the "Alice's Restaurant massacree" song. a gem of a story.
My fellow Americans could do with a little reminding where we all came from.
to john tucell I feel that....and to hcgirl I wish Icould talk to Arlo too
@hcgril13 I bow in awe and respect.
Some of you just need to read Bound for Glory then, to get an Idea of who Woody Guthrie really is. Arlo is a great storyteller, just like his father, but in his own kind of way.
Arlos daddy was a hobo during the great depression and wrote some very prolific songs.
You can almost smell the hippies.
Check out Rolie Polie Guacamole's version of this song. It is an inspirational upbeat version!!!!!!!
@hcgril13 You should try to make contact with Arlo, he won't be around for ever, you know. When you think of all the stuff he has in his head about Woody and about your ancestry, stuff that will be lost forever when he dies. Go for it.
you actually reversed it
As I was walkin' I saw a sign there
And that sign said no tress passin'
But on the other side it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!
In the squares of the city In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.
Love
big thumbs up to this comment friend.

Sing it to the Red Man guthrie!
@Godlesspanther
Couldn't express it better !
♥ ∞ love ∞ ♥ ~ ♥ ∞ trust ∞ ♥
GODS PEOPLE
to johntucell I feel you, and to hcgirl13 I wish I could talk to Arlo too
@johntucell Yeah. The two verses you never hear anymore. {:-{/}
This should the the American National Athem
Personally I THINK THE NEW NATIONAL ANTHEM SHOULD BE COCKY BY KID ROCK!!!! I LOVE THAT SONG AND ITS VERY APPLICABLE!
He's looking for the cap locks.
@hcgril13 same here!
the only yank i'd give ant time to
@MrJohanasBilderberg I guess you and the other 8 would rather a song praising Bin LKaden
kimval34b: You don't know what you say you know.
Our anthem is not piece of crap, show some respect.
@rorybowskill We don't want your "ant time" anyway pal. P.S. If it weren't for our "yank" fathers and grandfathers, you'd be writing (and probably misspelling) in German.
Woody would cringe at the suggestion that any of his songs might be turned into a 'National' anthem. His songs were about and for people...of any nationality, creed or colour and that is what gives them such wide appeal. If this was made the US National Anthem which verses would be cut? I'm sure a Republican president would remove the ones about 'I saw my people...and they were starving, and they were hungry' and that sanitized version would become official so no one heard those words.
Woody Guthrie was a special artistic free creative spirit. He claimed to be a communist though he never joined the party, he gave freely to party, writing songs and other writings for their various publications, always in his own style, not always in a political way, but always artistic. He strongly supported their ideals and values of support for people who can't meet their own needs due to circumstances beyond their control, and this should be a responsibility of society to prevent hardship. It was a lifelong thing for him. His Huntington Disease started getting disabling during the early and mid 50s, and because his symptoms of emotional volatility and outright violence, typical of the disease, posed a danger to his children, his wife Marjorie, divorced him. During the 50s, he was given a place to stay at the home of the actor Will Geer, i'm not sure if Will was a member of the communist party, either that or he was a supporter like Woody was. This was during the time of the Blacklist in which movie, TV and record producers agreed together to not hire leftist people, to exercise control over art and control over what ideas the public would have access to, and some bad injustices were done to a lot of people who did nothing wrong. Hard times because those people couldn't get work. it started letting up in early 60s. By then, Woody and his new wife moved to Florida, and then she left him because of the difficulty of his needs for care. When she left his life, Marjorie came back, and took over making sure he was cared for, i think by that time, he was institutionalized. She and the kids travelled a long way to visit him every Sunday for several years. Eventually he was moved to a facility closer to where they lived. I read about this in wikipedia. Here are the words he wrote on the copy of This Land Is Your Land that he submitted for copyright
“This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright # 154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don’t give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that’s all we wanted to do.”
If thats Stormin Norm then Im the Easter Bunnys big brother, how stupid does one have to be to be a firefighter?
Depends on if the copyrights were assigned to his estate or a corporation to be managed by the family for years to come....like Elvis....only better....
shows he had no idea what the hell he was talking about.
Well, if you really want to get technical this land is the Cherokee's, Blackfoots, and all the other Native Americans. I agree with you on the corporations, though.
But, I think this song is implying that this land is everyone's, of every race and every nationality. I.E. you can't "own" the earth. Which is pretty much like the Native Americans believed.
the song is glorifying communism
This song is glorifying the people who actually work in this country and not the leeches who take, oppress, and starve us. Community is all we have. This land was made for you and me.
Now this SONG WAS LIKE THE SONG DIXIE! IT WAS A PARADY! A JOKE! THE RABBIT!! ITS ALL A BIG JOKE! WHAT CAN YOU OWN IN AMERICA! PRAY TELL ME ONE THING YOU CAN OWN! People! EVEN YOUR HOME HAS A CONTINOUS LEVY WITH TAXES! IN THIS COUNTRY YOUR OWNED NOT FREE! ITS A BIG JOKE! AND THE STARS ARE SLAVES! ITS ALL A BIG JOKE!
