As a first generation American this song is very emotional to me. My grandfather brought his family(including my father) to this country with almost no money in hopes of a better life and education. Now I am in college and have high ambitions. The American dream is surely still alive.
I'm a young man who had a child hood in Scotland. It was a booming industrial city until the recession hit my family really hard, it left almost everyone unemployed... But we didn't give up we stood together and fought on.. I'm 31 years old now and I'm still fighting for our jobs, one day it may it may happen just don't give up the fight ✊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Hello fellow American and greeting from Pittsburgh PA - stay free to be free as all of us Americans are and always will be. Just two days ago, I pulled back to my home in Toronto after driving 10,000 kilometres to British Columbia, across Canada/United States. This trans-continental road trip was one I had always dreamed of and Woody Guthrie, and all the versions of his iconic song, were just paving the way for so many travels, and impressions, and memories. It was an epic journey for which I will am eternally grateful. "This land is your land, this land is my land." No words ring truer. Thank you, Woody, and all who have followed in your footsteps to sing these words.
This song should be our national anthem. It wasn't until the new deal that the working class had a shot at a good quality of life. That's what this song is about. Social programs are American as apple pie. I'm all for them if they work.
NO IT SHOULDN'T!!! "This Land is Your Land" is communist-inspired. People need to understand Springsteen. The vast majority of his work is fast songs and he performs to this day with 20 gallons of gas in his tank but the message has been the same from day 1: "This country is broken and broken still, real working people doing their best have real hard times and it's about time everyone in this nation recognized out national reality and did something about it" Seriously. His message has always been the same. And it's the truth. Our politicians can't fix us they are corrupt as fuck don't pardon my french. What does a working man do when his house is broken? He fixes it, finds a way. Well our collective house is America boys and girls. About time the down and out got tired of all the money and clout, and started thinking about how to fix the situation without doubt. The big boss doesn't fix the problem, the common joe does. Trust in your self. Trump and Hillary are not messiahs, do not wait to be saved by false prophets. You are responsible for YOU and YOUR loved ones. Roll up your sleeves women and men, there's good work that must be done. Let's get to fixing.
Indeed. Springsteen kept his politics close to the vest in his early years, but during the Reagan era he came out as a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, and boilerplate canting about the working class will not change that. He knows where the jackals are, and they certainly are not on the left. But some people just love to be stomped into the dirt so long as they can have their sad little fantasies about someday being rich. It's how the rich keep their feet on real people's necks.
Po-lease. Springsteen is a limo-liberal. He has always been a leftist - he played at the No-Nukes shows in the 70's (and rightly so). He's never been all that bright.
Bruce Springsteen did say that this song was written by Woody Guthrie, it is right in the beginning of this video. I also have this song from his 75-85 collection and it is the same version and he does mention that Guthrie wrote it. Springsteen says Guthrie wrote it as an answer to Irving Berlin's God Bless America and "This Land is Your Land" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I’m a puertorrican born in the Philadelphia but raised here on the island. Probably most of my compatriots would stone me for saying this but this song is so beautiful it touches me (even more than our own patriotic songs) and it makes me feel I’m living in the wrong country. I’ve tried many times to make it in the states but always end up down here. The best memories I have are from the times I’ve been there. but it feels like the land that saw me come into this world don’t want anything to do with me. Hope has faded away but I always dream of America, and I’m always sad about it. (Damn that almost sounds like a country song)
Well bruce is so good with every song even with songs that is not his he makes it feels like its relatable for everyone and telling a story trough is music is his passion and i admire him for who he is and his love for making music and altough i never went to a concert of him every time i see a clip when he is performing it feels like i am there Bruce thank you for for your beautiful music❤️
a great version of a great song. almost had me in tears thinking about how far we have fallen from this ideal. it also occurred to me that most of the people in the audience had probably never heard the full song. All Woody was trying to say is that everyone deserves to share in America's riches, be they monetary or natural. Nothing wrong with that idea. In fact, that is part of the philosophy behind the idea of the original settlers of this country
Thanks so much Bruce. For the first time in my life i will tell a guy I love you. You have provided so much clarity and sanity to my life at 65 that i never had before. I am a Canadian but i know a true poet and singer the likes of this world has never seen before. You are the BOSS.
Ok since its been awhile since someone left a message about how damn good springsteen's version is of this song, let me make sure to leave one. Great version Bruce, remember first time i heard in on live album 75-85 was like damn...
We need songs and conviction like this more than ever. Teach the young people who are protesting the Trump election. There is hope is darkness. Stay focused. Stay strong.
Thank you for posting this. I wanted my son to hear the REAL version of the song, and to understand EXACTLY what it is about. He asked me why the verse about the relief office gets left out in school. I replied "Because it's not "nice".
I heard this on a "bootleg" record of Woody's in 1968 with this verse, "As I went walkin' that ribbon of highway I saw a sign sayin' 'PRIVATE PROPERTY' But on the other side it didn't say nu-u-thin This land was made for you and me."
A great song Woodie and a Great job,we love you Bruce and thanks for puting it on ObersKrautwaschl. Yes to America and yes we are waking up. Woodies spirit lives in the core of the people. the people who hate this song are more aware of its meaning than even the patriots. I believe those who dislike or hate this song may hear more of it in the future. I believe big media has put some in a dream world but they are waking up.we need an honest hard working congress and no politics. We the People
This song is about the Great Depression ya'll it was written in protest to Irving Berlin's optimistic and patriotic view of America that he wrote about in "God Bless America." Guthrie wrote this because he was mad about what was happening in the country, people were losing everything, especially their jobs and money
I was listening to this, as I love the song and I love Springsteen, and RUclips threw it up as the next video after I watched one a friend had sent me. Then I scrolled down and I realized I was at the show where it was recorded. Lately it occurs to me, what a long, strange trip its been.
BEAUTIFUL!! Thnx for sharing! It was shared with me, by a friend...I am thankful! I will share it with everyone I know! God Bless you and yours! ALWAYS! Jen
ordinarily, I am no a springsteen fan but this song tells it like it is and was all those years ago,,,our country as said by Dr. Ben Carson,,is in critical condition! Bruce is so very sincere here! love the truth!
Growing up abroad I liked Rick Springfield before I ever heard of "Springsteen"? After living in America for 25 years I truly get why 'we' call him The Boss! He is the real deal... It didn't take 25 years... it pretty much took 41 shots! Love U Bruce!
Every time I listen to Bruce's intro to this song, and then his epic rendition of arguably the most powerful ballad ever written, I can't help but get choked up and cry. Bruce's live rendition of "The River", and the intro to that song is equally powerful. In that intro, Bruce talks about the struggles between himself and his dad, and how their relationship was a difficult one. I think a lot of people can relate to that, I know I can. I never really had a relationship with my dad in my teenage and adult years. He up and split after my parents divorced when I was 12 years old, and he'd show up once in a blue moon (I.E. every other year at best). My Ma and I, boy did we fight tooth and nail, just like Springsteen describes with his dad. My Ma and I have reconciled, thank God, and I'm glad I can say I have a great mother. Not a lot people get to that point, ya know. Usually it's too late and the parent(s) die before bridges are mended. But my old man, well, last I heard he was down in Texas doing a garden variety of hard drugs such as Meth and heroin. Peace and love, yall! :-)
On this day in 1940 {February 23rd} Woody Guthrie, while in his room at the Hanover House Hotel in New York City, wrote the lyrics to "This Land This Your Land"... In 1962 two covered versions of the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and both debut on the chart on the same day {November 25th}, the New Christy Minstrels' version at #93 and Ketty Lester at #97, and both versions also remained on the chart for one week... The song is a favorite of Bruce Springsteen; between 1980 and 2013 he has performed the song in 107 different concerts...
First of all I wan't to say that this video was awesome! Just as awesome as Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen. I am a Persian gulf war vet and I love to hear it and watch when people give our country and troops the RESPECT they deserve, instead of RUN THEIR MOUTH! Of course, they need to go to other countries where they WOULD NOT have what they have here; maybe then they wouldn't feel so free to critiscize. Oh, I forgot, they don't know what it is like... to be a servicemember! I LOVE U!
Hello! I am from Puerto Rico not United States, that said I will like to say this is a beautiful song for any one’s PATRIA, home country. Thank you Pete Seger.
This is a song I love I had many hurts in past. This song will is memories so many Jobs taken away. So many valleys and farms that that you don't see tractors much and harvest and barns. All been taken by building houses making room for faster train tracks seeing our lands and fields disapearing. You know back in 1987 I met a girl and I never forgot her in 1993 we sadly broke up not knowing that we would see each other again. The year 2019 after 32 years we got back together again. Here we are living together. The girl I met lived by fields and lands the views were fantastic reason why she moved away is because she met me. This land was made for you and me.

The English kid that I am, I can stand up right now and say that if there is one thing in this world that I respect, it's how much the Americans believe in their country, and how they continue to believe in their country during the toughest times. I'm not saying this because there's just been a terrorist attack or some shit, this is coming straight from the heart and what was just on my mind as I woke up this morning.
Well I rode that ribbon highway I saw above me the endless sky I saw below me the golden valley This land was made for you and me I've roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps Through the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was calling This land was made for you and me This land is your land This land is my land From California To the New York island From the Redwood Forest To the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me Well the sun came shining and I was strolling Through wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling And a voice was sounding As the fog was lifting Saying this land was made for you and me This land is your land This land is my land From California To the New York island From the Redwood Forest To the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me

Beautiful, moving, intense...........who else could get over 5.5 million views and counting for such a well-known song>>>????????????? I think during a stretch of the 80's Bruce's voice, emotions, and band were at their best, perhaps, as compared to other live performances in other years.....................
hey bruce, this an sos ,we need you again, just like after 9/11.you deserve the rest, but we really need you again.you are our beacon of light these days.
Bruce's singing of THIS song ~ I was at his "Born In the USA" concert tour ( in the 80's) in Detroit... after playing for over 3hours...and bringing down the house with every note ... all the awesome energy of the night.... Bruce comes out alone with a bar stoll, his guitar & harmonica & sings THIS song ~ from his gut... you could hear a pin drop and every heart was with him in his singing of every word - it was a magical soul to soul moment through music that caused time to stop. Thank You Bruce.
I learned this anthem on a school bus travelling back to Liberty, NY in '62, from Chibougamau, Que. Canada. I was the 9 yr old guest of a summer team of Trailblazers from Frost Valley YMCA. Its timeless resonance is for me a perfect symphony that embodies all that remains great in North America..... for everyone.
Ik all of us from both sides of the aisle can really hate this country sometimes but can we appreciate the beauty of America that our founding fathers created if just for a moment we need that now more than ever
Life is but a glance into the heart that can hear. - my heart hears my soul. And my soul listens. - I hear this is our land. This is pure Bruce.. This is why I hear his words and my soul listens to his lyrics. Always. This song. Does two things. At the same time, it humbles me and lifts me up. And my heart likes it :). Brian

Thank you Bruce and woody. This land was made for you and me.
you can see that Bruce feels these words in his heart, not to mention that he, along with Bob Dylan, etc. are huge Woody Guthrie fans
Quiet patriotism retold with a thundering voice..
Thank you, Woody
and thank you, Bruce
Thank you Dan.
"This Machine Kills Fascists"
ALWAYS
Crazy
this machine is needed today the most !
Ah yes a read American
@Jack Harper you do know Bruce and woody and Pete are all socialist??
I’m a puertorrican born in the Philadelphia but raised here on the island. Probably most of my compatriots would stone me for saying this but this song is so beautiful it touches me (even more than our own patriotic songs) and it makes me feel I’m living in the wrong country. I’ve tried many times to make it in the states but always end up down here. The best memories I have are from the times I’ve been there. but it feels like the land that saw me come into this world don’t want anything to do with me. Hope has faded away but I always dream of America, and I’m always sad about it.
(Damn that almost sounds like a country song)
It's a timeless classic that transcends generations & only The Boss could do it honorably with such grace ✨️🎤🎼🙏❤️
There is a reason people came to hear this song today. America, do not bow to tyranny or give up what is best in you. God save our great nation.
Chills when I hear this, great song and so relevant into today's social and political climate
I love this song .... doesn't matter who sings it... it's always good
Ok since its been awhile since someone left a message about how damn good springsteen's version is of this song, let me make sure to leave one. Great version Bruce, remember first time i heard in on live album 75-85 was like damn...
I just sobbed through the song. Praying for better leaders around the world, for love and brighter days ahead for all people.
We need songs and conviction like this more than ever. Teach the young people who are protesting the Trump election. There is hope is darkness. Stay focused. Stay strong.
so true
Thank you for posting this. I wanted my son to hear the REAL version of the song, and to understand EXACTLY what it is about. He asked me why the verse about the relief office gets left out in school. I replied "Because it's not "nice".
although this is an awesome version, there is more missing. look it up under woodie Guthrie.
I heard this on a "bootleg" record of Woody's in 1968 with this verse, "As I went walkin' that ribbon of highway
I saw a sign sayin' 'PRIVATE PROPERTY'
But on the other side it didn't say nu-u-thin
This land was made for you and me."
We the People
How can some people dislike this song . It's the greatest song I know Greetings from Sweden ;)
Covered by many but never so simply, never so beautifully. Thanks Mr. Springsteen.
👍👍👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🇨🇭🇨🇭
This song is about the Great Depression ya'll it was written in protest to Irving Berlin's optimistic and patriotic view of America that he wrote about in "God Bless America." Guthrie wrote this because he was mad about what was happening in the country, people were losing everything, especially their jobs and money
Makayla Thompson very similar of what is happening in this country today.
and this is why it should be shared, not to fight wars over it, but to use it to help all, instead of destroying it for profits of a few!
It's a damn shame this only has 14k thumbs up. It's a damn shame. It will be a sad, sad day when the Boss kicks the bucket.
my sons dad dedicated this song to me a few years ago. i cant stop crying. rest in peace trevor 😫💔😭
The best version of this song I think, God bless you, Bruce Springsteen.
I'm not American but this song is so epic. Take back what is yours.
Growing up abroad I liked Rick Springfield before I ever heard of "Springsteen"? After living in America for 25 years I truly get why 'we' call him The Boss! He is the real deal... It didn't take 25 years... it pretty much took 41 shots! Love U Bruce!
He'd rather eat glass. No offense but Bruce sees himself as antithesis to DJT and what his life represents.
This should be playing ever where,we are all Americans people 🙏🇺🇸💪
This song makes me emotional. I hear it and I get teary eyed.
It don't get any more American than this right hear :)
We gotta have more ppl come thru like Bruce .. In this time we need it again..
This is what I feel right now and how we are now. One day we won’t be here so we can’t we get along and live together? God bless everyone.
I saw this 35 years ago, it changed my life, let it change yours.
This land was made for you and me. God save our nation.
Gran cancion, grande BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN increíble como transmite sentimientos y mensajes tan importantes y profundos. God save BRUCE
❤ good morning USA from Canada ❤
You are right ! This song should be the national anthem for the USA !
Merci, merci, je n'arrive pas à dormir avec ce qui se passe et s'est passé chez moi mais merci de tout cœur pour ce titre. Manue
This song right here man ! This is wat I really really thought America was like coming from an immigrant family, that treating my father sooo gooood my father was very proud to be MexAmerican he loved the opportunity that the US gave him and never denied it , sadly I see a different America , a sad America a cold America, I still have hopes that it can be a better place to live for our children for the future and for This great country, that things can get better 🙏🏼 Amen
Well I rode that ribbon highway
I saw above me the endless sky
I saw below me the golden valley
This land was made for you and me
I've roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
Through the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was calling
This land was made for you and me
This land is your land
This land is my land
From California
To the New York island
From the Redwood Forest
To the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me
Well the sun came shining and I was strolling
Through wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling
And a voice was sounding
As the fog was lifting
Saying this land was made for you and me
This land is your land
This land is my land
From California
To the New York island
From the Redwood Forest
To the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

Beautiful, moving, intense...........who else could get over 5.5 million views and counting for such a well-known song>>>????????????? I think during a stretch of the 80's Bruce's voice, emotions, and band were at their best, perhaps, as compared to other live performances in other years.....................
hey bruce, this an sos ,we need you again, just like after 9/11.you deserve the rest, but we really need you again.you are our beacon of light these days.
Thank you my brother. This song is for the everyday folk that make this country run.
Por lejos, la mejor versión de esta maravillosa canción!
An amazing song done by a brilliant artist
👍👍👏👏❤️❤️🇨🇭🇨🇭
Came here because i'm finely going to the great beautiful country thats a land for you and me. Cya in New York for 4th of july.
Bruce's singing
of THIS song ~
I was at his
"Born In the USA" concert tour
( in the 80's)
in Detroit...
after playing for over 3hours...and bringing down the house with every note ...
all the awesome energy of the night....
Bruce comes out alone with a bar stoll,
his guitar & harmonica & sings THIS song ~
from his gut...
you could hear a pin drop and every heart was with him in his singing of every word - it was a magical soul to soul moment through music that caused time to stop.
Thank You Bruce.
So passionate. A great homage to this classic song and the promise of the founders of this country.
We need to remember this…AND ACT!!!! WE DON'T WANT IT TO BECOME "This Land WAS our land!!!!!!"
Bruce is a hell of a singer I just love him.
Best version ever. TKS
The best version. I have listened to many versions, this is the first time tears in my eyes.
The London 80 show was the best version... and this was the first time I heard it on e street radio after my dad died and I just cried
