2006-2007
India had just been white washed in the ODI series.
and were soon heading towards another clean sweep.
But what welcomed south africa was a feiry Shreeshant, a gritty India
and a controversy of Epic proportions.
Kallis had been photographed by media
not singing the national anthem
this is the story of the storm that followed.
and the main reason behind the sorry nature of South african Cricket at this point.

@@ArunKumar-fo9xt that hurt
SA today is capable of defeating any top team in the world. They have very good players. It is just that they somehow gets knocked out in the world cups.
This is what happens:

if you are not: people dont even care if you ever knew what a national anthem is
if you are poor: people never knew you existed
True...
Very true....
Fair enough .. poor people are useless
In South Africa, "coloured" means a person of mixed-race who is non-white on one side of their lineage. It is not a derogatory term for black people or non-white people generally, although that usage has existed in other parts of the world.
Cricket in SA is dying and its sad. When I was a kid I remember watching Graeme Smith, Kallis, De Villiers, Duminy, Plessis, Pollock all greats of the game but today this quota system has actually killed cricket.
It's not dying it's gaining popularity among black south African.
@@iromratan5206 I hope more Black South Africans become great cricketers, I personally am a big fan of Kagiso Rabada but this quota keeps talent blocked and its not good for cricket
@@Shreyas834 today it's more fueled by the BLM movement
JP Duminy that YOU just mentioned is there because of the quota system. You people are just thinly veiled racists. If 5million white people went to Pakistan, India or Sri Lanka & denied everyone of sport, whilst profiting from the labour of the natives making sure those sports are able to even take place, you people would raise hell.
Now because it's black people, you see no problem with denying them equal access to resources, training & opportunity to actually take part in something good happening in the country.
Anyways, a lot of the white players from past, including Jonty Rhodes, admitted he wouldn't have been selected in this age, because he knew he was an average player. We love the guy, but he spoke the truth. Peter Strydom & even Rilee Rossouw should've never been given any room in the squad. & thank goodness guys like Kevin Pieterson left. He did absolutely nothing for us.
You cannot tell me Kagiso Rabada, Hashim Amla, Herschelle Gibbs, Makhaya Ntini, Tabraiz Shamsi, Vernon Philande, Imran Tahir, Alviro Peterson, Ashwell Prince among others did not earn their place. Don't you dare. Yet we have some mediocre white players currently in the team who are consistently given chance after chance, yet fail to live up to the white standard. They were chokers WAAAAYYYY before any POC came in, but your racism blinds you. In fact, we've done better in cricket with inclusion even though we haven't won a WC. We were closest because other capable players were given a chance.
No one is saying AB, Graeme, Faf, Shaun aren't legends. But, excluding 85% of a country's population from PLAYING CERTAIN GAMES sure as hell is not something you should be okay with. Having 1 group from a diverse country & those people taking it amongst themselves to 'represent' the entire country is insane. No one in India or anywhere else would allow that. Why should black people & mixed black people be okay with it? WHY?
@Parth Patel Not once did I say all of the POC are great. But neither are ALL the white players. That was literally the simple point I was referring to.
You cannot reminisce about white players, who SOLELY got to where they are because of their lack of pigment. Yet other people were never afforded the fair opportunity. Whites aren't born with cricketing superpowers.
Markram had way too much pressure. He was selected in every format instead of being kept on one, like Morne van Wyk & Dean Elgar, so he could be just as good or even better than both senior players..
Beuran, Andile & even Zubayr Hamza however, tried in the beginning, that's why they got their spots. But after some time, they were clearly messing up & yes, it would be okay if they were left out of international games. It would be understandable.
Shamsi is getting better. He isn't great, but he's not a liability at all. Also, he was not given as much game time because Dale Steyn, JP, Imran, Vernon, Morne Morkel & other players were always on the roster for almost all formats. Also, after Abbot & Duane signed kolpak deals, he was overplayed too for a bit.
Anyways, again, we have younger players coming in & we live in a democratic country. Our sport should reflect that. With the game being improved from behind the scenes & with better technology too, on the front, it's easier to weed out the deserving players & give them a fair shot.
The same way white kids learn when they're younger on how to play certain sports, other kids of colour, with the adequate resources & training, will learn too. They're not invalids.
Kallis was a legend of my childhood days.... That whole team SA was a legend..... Never will be a SA cricket team of that calibre...
CSA must have done what BCCI is doing now. Instead of putting up something like a quota system, it started investing in developing cricket infrastructure in rural and remote areas. A lot of talents from the underprivileged classes are cropping up and will soon fight for a spot in the national team. That is how you act upon inequality.
I totally agree with u but instead corruption is destroying grass roots players chances of playing. It's not about transformation but how to get rich quick and the beautiful game of cricket is being destroyed

So Kagiso Rabada, Hashim Amla, Vernon Philander, JP Duminy, Makhaya Ntini, Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi & many more did not earn their place in the team, even though they're better than many average white players? So basically they should have never been given any opportunity to play for us & represent us as a country? So 85% of our population should just be okay with whites only sports?
Do you also advocate for that BULLSHIT to happen in India, Pakistan pr wherever you're from? If you're okay with the natives of your country being subjected to such tomfoolery, that's on you. But don't speak for a us...a country even when there were ONLY whites in most sports, for the longest of times, NEVER even came close to winning a WC. In fact, we've come closest to getting the cup since the inclusion of our different players with not just their skill, but talent. Not only white SAns have the capability of playing certain sports.
So if you go to Europe for example, presuming of course you are coloured, does that give them the right to deny you any opportunity because they are natives of that country and your skin colour is offensive to them? After all, that is their home and they are the native people. Or do basic human rights to equality only apply when it's coloured people? Keep seething over the Boer bogeymen who supposedly are oppressing you: ANC cronies flaunt their stolen wealth like kings and you will vote them time and time again wondering why the electricity grid keeps failing or why there are roaming gangs of bandits everywhere or why the rand is borderline worthless. Don't worry, you'll have your paradise without whites soon enough. And then you will undoubtedly beg to go to Europe or America so you can ruin those countries too.
@@lesam7813 The problem is not with White or Black. The problem is that selection in sports should be based on merit not on the basis of colour. Apartheid ended around 30 years ago and the non-white players that were given a chance to play for SA were isolated by their white team mates (many news articles out at the moment). How can they promote the game to the majority of the county who are black, and before 30 years ago were not legally allowed to play for SA, without a quota? It's a flawed system but it's a system trying to flacidly to reverse the wrongs that the majority of SA were subjected to.

Someone has to speak up on abolishing reservation system in India this cannot go on forever
As a South African, I should add that quite a lot of nuance was lost in the telling of this story. Firstly CSA and the national department of sports provided funding for the provincial cricket boards to help develop young black players and infrastructure in majority black communities. However, those provincial boards were not willing to cooperate with the mandate and wanted to keep the old schools and teams that provided national team players during apartheid and in the first few years after South Africa was readmitted into the international scene. On top of that the national team selection committee would do everything in their power to make it look as if the "quota" system was failing by refusing to give the young black players opportunities, if you failed once as a black player that was the end of your nation team career.
yes bro as an indian , we too understand what happens in discrimination and superiority occupied old system, here in comment section few fellow indians are of same racial superiority/prestige orientated mindset, their ancestors once oppressed large section of their own fellow indian brothers, it was like inhuman slavery, discrimination, an now post independent pur government has a counter action to bring social justice in indian communities, we also have one quota system( not in sports though), thats why these superiority mindset people are here, trying their best to potray how bad quota system is.
@@aimexcellence1315 and u would love to get college even with marks in negative😂😂
Atleast raise ur merit
Everything apart, Kallis is the only GOAT of cricket
I fear South African cricket is going down the same road as Zimbabwe did post 2003
Quota system has also destroyed Indian education system and bureaucracy.
As always a great video !
Here's an idea for a next video: Toxic cricket / sports fanbase.
If Hashim amla can be permitted to not put castle lager 🍺 logo on his jersey, then what’s wrong if Kallis chooses not to sing the national anthem .
Beer logo and national anthem are two different thing. One is only commercial and other is your national emotion ,symbol of loyalty to your nation.
@@rehanfarazi6547 personal choice is personal choice whether you like it or not .and by the way , not singing the national anthem is not the same as not standing up for the national anthem, the latter has been largely followed as a cool practice. I’ve seen many Indian players not singing the national anthem, that doesn’t mean they don’t love India. However if they refuse to join the team when the national anthem is played that is certainly unacceptable
must be breahmin quota person
@@Q_QQ_Q what exactly is Brahmin quota ?
@@venky30111 brgamin quota is brgmain quota . what is your problem ?
You just articulated like a weaver bird. Well done Bud.
South africa a country with great possibilities has quite destroyed itself because of hatred
Nice one sir as usual superbb narration
YOUR VOICE IS LITERALLY SOOTHING!!!!
Hi, thanks for the story. I appreciate your work. But in this video I didn't understand the relation between Kallis and reservation in his team. Did he not sing along the National Anthem because he thinks it's not worth it?
Indians are familiar to reservations way before its cool 😃✋
Bro first ❤️

JACQUES KALLIS :-The Greatest ALLROUNDER the game ever had
Now i give you another news that in 2018 David Miller was removed from t20 captaincy and farhan behardin was elected as a new captain because there was a strike in every major city by the blacks to elect a black guy captain and a quota for 5 blacks... but cricket south Africa played well and elect bihardin(an asian) as a captain to avoid disappointment for white guys and allow 4 blacks on quota......
This is how politics destroy sports. Something similar happened in Zimbabwea.
Why do we sing the national anthems anyway? As a British person I find ours outdated and it doesn't even reflect modern British values. It's actually pretty disrespectful considering many of the nations we are playing where subjugated under the rule of empire. 😅
I agree, why the need to sing it, what is its purpose?
I disagree with the other point you make, as I think you are conflating two different issues, Britain lead the abolition of slavery and used its power on the high seas to help bring it to an end, so there was bad, and there was good.
I do not know of one single country/tribe that does not have skeletons in its closet, so why single out the UK for your post?
i really liked when you referenced south africa as ABD 😅😍
